Arctic Sea Ice Shrinking At 'Unprecedented' Levels By Emily Chung
"The recent loss of sea ice in the Arctic is greater than any natural variation in the past 1½ millennia, a Canadian study shows. What we are experiencing at the moment seems to be very exceptional…. This means that we are entering into the world which has no equivalent in the past" See more at; http://www.countercurrents.org/chung241111.htm
"Increases in the abundances of atmospheric greenhouse gases since the industrial revolution are largely responsible for the observed change in climate [IPCC2007]. However, climate projections have model uncertainties that overwhelm the uncertainties in greenhouse gas measurements.
We present here an index that is directly proportional to the direct forcing of climate; and which contains relatively little uncertainty. Because it is based on the amounts of long-lived greenhouse gases in the atmosphere, it, in a sense, represents society’s long-term commitment to global warming."

Capital Punishment By Country....It turns out that the USA is about the ONLY civilized country left that kills people 'legally'. Everyone else has made murdering people illegal, except for Communist China, some African countries and some Middle Eastern countries like Libya and dictators like North Korea.. We are in good company, if you count good company as dictators and despots.
The charts put out by USGS are great.. Just go back to the 1980's and count the number of severe earthquakes back then compared to now... S
Bottom line, since 2000, the number of earthquakes that are large and destructive, has increased in a HUGE way... We are talking two screen fulls of earthquakes in 2009, compared to just a couple of earthquakes all year long in the 80's.
To see it in a graph/chart format click here. This only goes to 2006, so the worst years are not even on this one...yet.
Think about the costs of a whole city being wiped out; as in Haiti.. we are talking billions of dollars if not hundreds of billions, plus ten years of reconstruction.. Haiti does not have that kind of money, and basically, neither do we. We have to borrow it or print it out of thin air.
If these hurricanes, tornadoes and earthquakes keep getting more and more numerous and bigger and more destructive, as they have been, then at some point in the not too distant future, we may not be rebuilding anything anymore. There just will not be the money, people, time or energy to do it.. if the number, frequency, and severity keeps increasing exponentially, year after year, as the charts show above.
Potentially, millions of people will just starve, die and get sick, without getting any help from foreign countries, because those countries will be dealing with their own emergencies. They will not have the resources or ability to go help anyone else...
To counter this, get your community together and plan for disasters, and prepare for them. You may not get any help beyond what you put together ahead of time with your neighbors. If you cannot count on your neighbors, then who can you count on?
In Haiti, that is what the better tent camps did.. They formed local neighborhood alliances and went out and foraged for food and supplies, bringing that back and sharing it with their 'neighborhood' or 'village'. That is the old, ancient way... We may have to go back to that.
