Mr Ban Ki-moon, the UN Secretary General, has organised a summit on climate change to renew the momentum for Copenhagen conference in December at which world leaders will discuss a successor to the Kyoto Protocol, stating: "[t]he objective of the Summit on Climate Change [...] is to mobilize the political will and vision needed to reach an ambitious agreed outcome based on science at the UN climate talks in Copenhagen."

I'm happy the 'voice of faith' is also included under civil society (see e.g. IFEES). As IFEES' Director states: ""It hasn’t quite entered the human consciousness, that if planet earth suffers we suffer and that we have nowhere else to go. We are part of an integrated earth and when we reduce the natural world to an exploitable resource this turns inwards on us. How else does one explain the consequences of climate change? Yes, the human species is unique. We have the capacity to observe the world around us, describe what we see, quantify it and then take advantage of it. However, the most extreme and all pervasive form of this is our collective, unfettered defilement of nature."

Now all that's needed is that we LISTEN, then WALK our talk.... I pray so.

"What's the purpose of a nice house if you have no good planet to put it on." - Henry David Thoreau

22 April is Earth Day, a day designed to inspire awareness and appreciation for the Earth's environment. It falls during spring in the northern hemisphere and autumn in the southern hemisphere. According to Wikipedia, it was founded by US Senator Gaylord Nelson as an environmental teach-in in 1970 and is celebrated in many countries every year. The United Nations celebrates an Earth Day each year on the March equinox, a tradition which was founded by peace activist John McConnell in 1969.

Want to do something on Earth Day, but lack inspiration? Look no further.

Be part of something amazing. Wherever you live on planet earth, this Saturday, at 8.30pm local time, it's Earth Hour. OneHundredMonths partner, WWF Earth Hour, aims to reach more than one billion people in 1,000 cities around the world. Be part of it.And if you are in London this Saturday, take a walk with thousands of like-minded souls who want the G20 to Put People First.

I wish all a happy, healthy, peaceful and sustainable 2011.

I like this quote as a resolution for 2011:

"The more our world functions like the natural world, the more likely we are to endure on this home that is ours, but not ours alone."
~ Janine Benyus

In peace, Rianne
