The House will be voting on a bill to reinstate protections for wild horses and burros here in the USA on this Thursday.
Please call your US Representatives and ask for their support to end the rounding up of wild horses for slaughter.
Take a look at this Share, where you may watch a video of a wild horse round-up (no graphic violence) and also read the full Vanity Fair article, "Galloping Scared" :

Join Rally and National Call-In Day for Horses on Tues and Weds, Sept. 5 and 6 Urge House of Representatives to Pass the American Horse Slaughter Prevention Act
The American Horse Slaughter Prevention Act (HR 503) is one of the most important animal welfare bills ever to reach Capital Hill. If HR 503 passes, the slaughter and international transport of live horses or horse flesh for human consumption would be banned in the U.S. This landmark legislation could save more than 90,000 wild and domestic horses from dying horrible deaths in slaughterhouses every year.
Polls indicate that the vast majority of Americans want the slaughter of horses for human consumption to end. Veterinary and equine rescue associations also stand strongly behind the measure because it will greatly reduce the suffering of these noble and intelligent animals. Animal advocates must speak out against this cruel and barbaric industry now as the House of Representatives prepares to vote on the issue.
Inside sources indicate that the House may vote on HR 503 on Thursday, September 7th, 2006 -- less than a week from now. Horse slaughter industry lobbyists are working our elected officials for all they're worth to preserve their clients' privilege to profit from equine suffering and death. It is therefore crucial that animal advocates let U.S. leaders know that there is widespread support for a horse slaughter ban, and that the public puts horses' welfare above the greed of special interests. Here are several ways you can help:
- "Take Action" to send an automatic email message urging your Representative to vote YES on HR 503. Also call or write a letter to your Representative to have an even greater impact. Get contact information for your Representative.
- Join other animal advocates at a National Rally for Horses on the Hill in Washington, D.C. on Tuesday, September 5th from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Advocates will meet at the 121 Cannon House Office Building on the cannon platform at the corner of Independence Avenue and New Jersey S.E..
- Following Tuesday's rally, take part in the Lobby Day for Animals from 11:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. and meet with your legislators to urge them to support the American Horse Slaughter Prevention Act. Learn how to make appointments with your elected officials.
- Call your Representative on the National Call-In Day for Horses on Wednesday, September 6th -- the day before the House is expected to vote on HR 503. Simply tell them to "please protect American horses from slaughter and support H.R. 503, the Horse Slaughter Prevention Act." Get your Representative's phone number.
