I have been reading several threads of folks saying how much they love horses, but do not currently have one - here is a great place to start (for those seriously interested in owning a horse) -
Please make Adoption your first Option!

This is one of the best Horse Adoption sites I have found yet - and just so you know - Stormy is no longer available  He is coming home with me this coming Sunday    - and what an Awesome horse he is.

There are several older horses listed on this site for very small adoption fees - and most are still rideable! Along with a very nice 3 year old TB - who needs some one to give him a forever home - he has already been playing all of the 7 Parelli games! He was purchased as a yearling for $56,000.00! and his adoption fee is only $400!  If interested see above site, and click on Special Prospect.

Though most horse adoption sites state you need to live in the same State (some even the same county) as the adoption agency - this is not the case at BITS (Back in The Saddle). They do a very thorough check on anyone who wants to adopt a horse, but there is not an adoption application fee. If you do not see a horse you currently are interested in, but feel you may want to someday adopt, fill out the application form. Once you are approved to adopt, BITS will notify you of any horses they recieve which match what you are looking for, BEFORE they list it on the website.

As for those who claim to be "too old" - BAH HUMBUG! No one is ever to old to "hug a horse"    even if they can no longer ride. I am 42 and just this past year and a half have started training and working with young horses - I have even gotten my 2 and 3 year old under saddle and rider by myself - never having done this before now. So those of you who fit this catagory - go out and fullfill that wonderful dream of becoming a horse owner!
