We received the following request from a member of Prison Reform Movement

Date Received: Friday, May 15, 2009, 8:02 PM

Vincent Padgett is a mentally ill inmate in Oregon State Penitentiary.  He suffers from anxiety and hypertension, which was apparently caused by the anxiety disorder. He also suffers from a mood disorder that takes him on an emotional roller coaster ride. Vincent was taken off of a Mood Stabilizer some time ago and never restored the prescription even though they saw it was harming him emotionally, physically and mentally. The absence of the Mood Stabilizer has also interfered with an already diagnosed Sleep Disorder. Vincent does not sleep more than 2 hours a night and has had to have emergency medical intervention because when he doesn't get sleep he attempts to take his life. This is a life threatening mental illness.

What they have done in Vincent's case is to recently allow his Adivan to expire. This medication is given for Anxiety. It has already been diagnosed and recorded that Vincent has a very huge problem with Anxiety. He can't function in crowds, has startle response from the diagnosed PTSD and doesn't sleep. So another medication taken away that will further harm him emotionally, physically and mentally.

This takes it one step further in the attempt to retaliate against Vincent for the lawsuit. He has been given a choice, called a cruel choice by the courts. Vincent has been told that he accepts substandard care, which is what they are giving him now in MHI in their effort to use their psychologically trained minds to harm another human being and purposely de-stabilize him, or go to General Population and get no treatment at all. This means no therapy and no medication. Although that is what these adults that were trained in psychology and psychiatry are using their superior skills to do. If Vincent refuses the substandard treatment and refuses to be treated in the abusive way they have been treating him, then they blame him for refusing treatment. Given no other choice and blame him for no treatment. The Courts call it a cruel trap and a choice that is not a choice when inmates are blamed for refusing substandard and no treatment for refusing treatment. Vincent asks for help and gets abused, mistreated and there are attempts made to set him up for assault.

As a last bit of insight, Adivan has very strong withdrawal symptoms for those that are taken off cold turkey. This is dangerous to Vincent. He is fragile and cannot withstands a terrible withdrawal from this drug. To do this to him, to take him off all medications, is to perpetrate the most cruel and heinous act one human being can do to another.

Please continue to write on Vincent's behalf. You can see his Medical story on this group site and his contacts to write to. Thank you. Help save a life.

Please send letters to the following officials urging them to secure the appropriate medical treatment for Vincent:

Vincent Padgett, Oregon

The family needs help in stopping the mistreatment of a now mentally ill man who has suffered a Traumatic Brain Injury at the Oregon State Penitentiary.  Sadly, Traumatic Brain Injury causes behavior problems. It is a debilitating condition that needs proper treatment and not punishment.

In July 2006, Vincent Padgett was brutally attacked by a number of gang members, while in the custody of the Oregon State Penitentiary. During this attack, he suffered a debilitating injury from the blow to his head. Although, the prison staff was repeatedly made aware of Padgett's severe pain, ten months passed before the Oregon State Penitentiary would transport Padgett to the hospital.

In May 2007, Padgett finally received a CT-Scan which revealed a large subdural hematoma, a smashed shut left ventricle, and that one side of his brain had beenpushed to the other side. Padgett underwent emergency surgery.

Mr. Padgett needs his medication and the appropriate psychotherapy. For 1 year and 10 months Vincent has been having non-stop severe headaches and this has not been addressed. He suffered from the Traumatic Brain Injury and this has resulted in mental illness. He is not receiving the treatment he needs because the head psychiatrist says that Vincent "is trying to force us to do things."Vincent and his family are just asking that the right and responsible thing be done. The DOC is at fault for Vincent's condition.

Matthew 25:41-45

Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels:

For I was an hungred, and ye gave me no meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me no drink:

I was a stranger, and ye took me not in: naked, and ye clothed me not: sick, and in prison, and ye visited me not.

Then shall they also answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, or athirst, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not minister unto thee?

Then shall he answer them, saying, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye did it not to one of the least of these, ye did it not to me.
