He's  great guy - please show him support (I'll send him all your comments and link to the share)

He's been on hunger strike from yesterday, drinks only water but the worst is that the last night was very cold, it rained all night.

The strike is against a builder of a new Leicester Animal Lab: Willmott Dixon

"ACTIVIST BEGINS HUNGER STRIKE PROTEST

An activist has today begun a hunger strike outside the office of Willmott Dixon in Coleshill in protest at the involvement in the construction of a new animal lab at the University of Leicester.

A local campaigner commented "Midlands Animal Rights activists want to mount the pressure on the company, and a 3 - 5 days hunger strike will start as of Monday 7th June 2010 at 12 noon outside of their site. We are hoping to publicise this in the local press as much as possible in order to expose Willmott Dixon to the public and thus further the pressure on them to pull out of their contract in helping to build the new vivisection laboratory for Leicester University."

Please lend your support by attending, or contacting Willmott Dixon in disgust at their involvement in the new lab:

Contact Willmott Dixon on the details below to ask them to stop building the new lab - sample letter below

To Whom It May Concern,

I write to you to express my concern about the role Willmott Dixon are playing in the construction of Leicester University's new animal laboratory. If Willmott Dixon continue in their role as main Contractor on the project then they will be responsible for the deaths of thousands of animals in the future.
It is known that Wllmott Dixon management have sent an internal email in which they state the new lab will only be using rodents, this is a blatant lie as Leicester staff have confirmed to protesters that mice, rats, guinea pigs and rabbits will be used initially and then there are plans to use dogs in the future. Willmott Dixon cannot know what the building will be used for in the future and should not risk having anything on their conscience, the only way to do this is to stop your contract with Leicester University immediately.
The scientific community has expressed large concerns about the reliability of drugs tested on animals as the genetic make up between species is so hugely different and in one study 80% of GP's expressed concerns about the reliability of animal testing, these are the people who will witness the side effects and are in one of the best positions to judge.
Please Do all you can to get your company to pull out of construction at Leicester University.

Regards,

3#Actions for badgers + rally in Cardiff
1.
Going against solid scientific advice the Welsh Assembly have recently voted to allow badger culling to go ahead in Wales. This will be a wildlife massacre of an almost unprecedented scale - and for nothing. The largest report into bovine TB found that badger culling would actually make the situation worse by displacing surviving badgers. It is not too late to try and make them see sense!
Please write a polite letter to Elin Jones AM, the Minister for Rural Affairs (whether you live in Wales or not!):

"Dear Minister

As a citizen of the UK I was extremely disappointed to hear that the Welsh Assembly has voted for a badger cull in Wales.

This move goes against the advice of the largest ever study into the spread of bovine TB which found that culling badgers would have no meaningful impact on the spread of the disease – and would actually make it worse. The real culprit is bad farming practices. Despite intensive culling of badgers in the Republic of Ireland the proportion of infected herds has remained largely constant since culling intensified in 2002. Whereas, Northern Ireland has virtually halved infection, through effective cattle controls without badger culling. I urge you to follow Northern Ireland’s lead and call off the cull – it will achieve nothing, only needlessly cost the lives of thousands of wild animals and tarnish the reputation of Wales.

Yours sincerely"

Save British Badgers from Massive Cull badger.gif picture by cissymermaid

Tens of thousands of Britain's badgers face the threat of a massive, unprecedented cull. This killing would defy official recommendations from a 10-year study that the much-loved badgers should be spared, but the minister responsible believes that it cannot legally be stopped.
Farmers, landowners and vets are drawing up detailed plans for a mass extermination of badgers over a vast area of the West Country in the hope of controlling tuberculosis infections in cattle. They hope to start killing the animals this summer and plan to repeat the operation annually for the next three years. The proposed cull area includes Britain's best-known badgers, on the Fishleigh Estate near Okehampton, whose antics have delighted millions on BBC2's Springwatch.

The plan flies in the face of the conclusions of the official Independent Scientific Group on Cattle TB headed by Professor John Bourne, which concluded that killing badgers "cannot meaningfully contribute" to controlling the disease, and might even increase its spread. Culling badgers only makes things worse, as infected animals flee the killing fields and thereby infect new areas. It is also more effective to control the cattle trade and erect electric fences to keep badgers out of barns. Most of the TB cases in the cattle, as much as 70 %, are caught from other cattle, not from badgers. This killing is therefore senseless, cruel and needless. Please sign to save the British badgers!

Thanks
Joanna
