The sea otter has been protected, and their numbers are coming back. Now, a congress person wants to change that. It will endanger the sea otter's existence. We can all keep the laws protecting the sea otter in place if we send a letter to our state reps. The link  below has a form letter that you can send to your state's rep.

This is only for folks in the U.S., but it you have friends here, please share!

I had the honor of interviewing Will Travers of Born Free Foundation, Mike Arms of Helen Woodward Animal Center, Gene Baur of Farm Sanctuary and Leslie Smith of dogtime.com. They all shared advice on animal rescue.

When I go to my local rescue or any rescue for that matter, I leave a little sad. I try my best not to carry negative thoughts with me. I just want all of those animals to have good homes.

So I wondered how a few of my heroes handled the saddness. They are actually quite positive.

I know many of you do animal rescue too. And for that I thank you. Thank you for friending me too.

Did you know that there are more tigers kept as pets in the U.S. than there are in the wild? According to my friends at Born Free USA, between 5,000 and 7,000 tigers are kept as pets, and fewer than 4,000 tigers roam free in the wild. It’s a sad statistic—especially when we know that in the early 1900s there were an estimated 100,000 tigers in the wild.

Did you know that it is cheaper to buy a tiger than a dog?

My friends at Born Free USA offers some great tips on how to help animals. Here is the Care2 link:

And as always, thanks for reading!!!

I was given a Toy Poodle a few years ago when a friend died of cancer and none of her relatives were able to take him in. I kept him for the rest of his life. Other animals might be taken in by rescue groups or shelters if there is no one able to care for the pet. Some pets, particularly if they’re extremely sick or aggressive, might be euthanized.

It’s important to check out every possibility on where you will place your pet. For example, many people love the sound of a no-kill sanctuary, but some shelters that sound good in writing may not give the pet the quality of life your relative would have wanted. Make sure you visit the shelter or rescue group’s facility, ask about their adoption policies, and most importantly, see the conditions in which the animals are kept.

I just posted a story about wild horses and burros. It starts out with an interview with actress Wendie Malick. At the end of the story is a call to readers to contact Nevada legislators. This is about a bill denying water to wild horses and burros. It is so cruel. The story links to the animal law coalition site, and asks readers to contact legislators in NV and tell them you won't visit the state if they support this bill.

Can you take a look, and if you feel it is important, please share. Here is the link: http://petnewsandviews.net/2011/05/wendie-malick-lends-support-to-farm-animals/

Thanks,

Michele
