Is it that time of the year again? Sho iz!

My family had it figured out for a while. When my folks still had their large house and hosted christmas every year, and everyone would show up, and everyone was grown up, we would do a pink elephant, and you would only have to bring one gift. And even then, you had no idea who you were getting it for, so it didn't really matter.

Now we're smaller, and we don't all meet up, so now I gotta get a BUNCH of gifts. It's not so bad tho, it's kinda fun shopping. A few things i noticed this year:

1) Why is it when you WANT to go shopping, you can't find a fricken parking spot, but one of those days where you would rather stay in bed, you don't get the convenient excuse of not having anywhere to park. Seriously, last week, we almost went home, but my fiance was buying me a watch, so I made her drive around until we found a spot. This week, I had to buy my mom's gift, and we almost found a spot INSIDE of macy's

2) Why do people, this time of year, pile on to lines that already have a ton of people, and fail to notice the lines with no one on them? I noticed this last nite at the ballet, and today at macy's. It's almost like people expect lines, so they just see a line of people, and assume, like cattle, they're supposed to go into the same line. I seemed to find all of the short lines, by using this simple trick: walking around a little bit. Sounds complicated? Not Really!!@!

3) Holiday Shopping is the best form of birth control. Stopping into a toy store to get your nephew a gift, even better. I swear, nothing like a few little boys who don't know each other at all, smacking each other to get the yellow brio train, inside of 'Worlds of Wonders', with their parents spacing out on the scene (and not allowing you to move around them), to make you think: hmm, perhaps being a mindless child-bearing zombie is not for me.

4) Is there a government regulation on the weather for X-Mas? Here in northern california it's been sunny and mostly warm all season. X-Mas comes bearing around the corner, and all of a sudden its like 30 degrees and raining. Why not just keep the nice weather until we don't have anything to do, like in january?

5) I generally call Christmas: X-Mas. Why? I'm from a science background, and enjoy math. In math, X can be a variable, in some sort of equation. Of late, I've noticed that X, in X-mas, certainly could be a varible. Sometimes X means Christ. Sometimes X means give me some presents. Sometimes X means great food and family. And sometimes X means hit the kid next to you, so you can get the yellow brio train.

Happy Holidays!

Geoff

p.s. Mom, if you finally read my blog, here's a hint for you present: I got you jewlery!

Someone's gonna die tonight...

As much as i hate to say it, or admit it, it looks like tookie isn't going to get a stay. Had a chance to go to the protest, as I am adamently against the death penalty, but I couldn't stand to be that close to the event.

I know, I know... How can I be against the death penalty if i don't stand up and try to rise against it. and you might be right. I've always said an eye for an eye makes the whole world blind. But everyone succumbs to trying to treat the people that treat you badly the same, at some time. Is this human nature? Are we wired for revenge? I would like to say no, but I'm not sure i buy it. One thing i do know though, the facts are on the side of not killing killers. People are wrongly convicted, the death penalty doesn't really deter, and by no means does taking a life bring back a life, or bring happiness to anyone involved, at least in my opinion.

Then again, if i lost someone, what would i think? I would like to think i would just want them incarcerated for life, which is most likely more miserable than the death penalty... But would I toy with the idea of enjoying watching the person who took someone from my life, lose their's? It's not a question I can answer, given that I have never gone through anything like that. I won't even try to pretend I know what that feels.

All i know is that alot of people will mourn tonight, on all sides of this issue.

Typically I'm pretty good about my programming class, Intro to Java. I do my reading, and start my program sometime before the night it's due.

The last few assignments weren't typical. I think i procrastinated a bit, since we didn't have anything due around thanksgiving, but I turned back into my college slacker self.

This was especially stupid on this weeks, the last, homework assignment. I missed some stupid little thing, and was up until one am trying to figure it out, and barely got the damn thing in. But i eventually found it.

stuff = new String [SIZE]

I think thats a word for every hour i couldn't figure out that i needed that allocation to get my array to work, oh well.

Andrea... This is us in hawaii, quite a fun time, though we never quite got the hang of going in the water (exploring the island was much more fun anyhow). We've been together 4+ years, and are engaged to get married, at some point, if we ever get our act together and figure out what we want to do for it. Anyhows, I thought perhaps you all might like to see that a dude like me actually can land someone hot... Freeow!
