Every election most Christians are duped into voting for the party who they have been brainwashed into believing represents moral values. This is a hoax.

What would America look like if the Republican leadership had it's way? There would be no middle class at all. The Republicans rail about keeping the government off the backs of people but what this really means is they want all regulations protecting worker's rights and the environment to be eliminated so that massive profits can be achieved at the expense of the working class.

Visit any Walmart in America and take a good look at their employees. They are the working POOR. Millions of good paying jobs have been outsourced because of SLAVE labor available in India and other third world countries. The Republicans want to abolish the Environmental Protection Agency. This is truly outrageous! All in the name of greed!

The Christian vote is controlled by a Republican promise of outlawing all abortions even though the Supreme Court made a decision in 1972 with Roe v. Wade that protected the basic reproductive rights of women while assuring that legal abortion  recognized the stages of development and set reasonable limits in the last two trimesters of pregnancy. Why is this still an issue? The Republicans figured out a way to attract and keep Christian voters by constantly trying to pass laws to erode a Supreme Court decision in hopes of one day staying in power long enough to pack the Court with narrow minded Justices who will overturn Roe v. Wade. It won't happen.

The Democrats stand behind ALL keeping familes together. Yes, sometimes this means families where the parents have come to this country many years ago by walking across the border. Immigration reform is needed to make the path of citizenship less expensive and lengthy. Yes, this also includes gay couples who are only trying to stay together as a family.

The Republicans also want to dictate WHICH people are truly Christians. They want the Morman vote but not a Morman candidate for President. This is why both Romney and Huntsman both Conservatives are begging for support within their own party. Wake Up Mormans! Harry Reid, a Morman, is both a Democrat and the Senate Majority Leader. Is the Republican Party really deserving of your support?

If the Republicans had not gained control of the House of Representatives in 2010, we would be out of this recession today. All they are concerned with is regaining the White House. In 2001, when George Bush took office we were arguing about what to do with the surplus. They gave us tax relief for the wealthy and massive debt by starting unnecessary wars.

If you are a millionaire and don't care about anyone but yourself, keep voting for Republicans. Everyone else, wake up before the America that we love disappears forever.

Christmas is never the appropriate time to let an employee know that you would love for them to quit!

I had a dear friend who worked for Terrix Financial Corporation in Beverly Hills for a little over 11 years. She received a modest bonus at Christmas from 1996-2005. Then, she turned 60 years old in June of 2006 and guess what? No bonus in 2006 or 2007. And thanks to employment-at-will laws, she was "let-go" January 4, 2008. This experience took an emotional toll on her.

Protect yourself and avoid working for a company with less than 3-5 employees in California. They are exempt from even discrimination laws. Ask any employment attorney.

Merry Christmas

The group is focused on a living leader to whom members seem to display excessively zealous, unquestioning commitment.

The group is preoccupied with bringing in new members.

The group is preoccupied with making money.

Questioning, doubt, and dissent are discouraged or even punished.

Mind-numbing techniques (such as meditation, chanting, speaking in tongues, denunciation sessions, debilitating work routines) are used to suppress doubts about the group and its leader(s).

The leadership dictates sometimes in great detail how members should think, act, and feel (for example: members must get permission from leaders to date, change jobs, get married; leaders may prescribe what types of clothes to wear, where to live, how to discipline children, and so forth).

The group is elitist, claiming a special, exalted status for itself, its leader(s), and members (for example: the leader is considered the Messiah or an avatar; the group and/or the leader has a special mission to save humanity).

The group has a polarized us-versus-them mentality, which causes conflict with the wider society.

The group's leader is not accountable to any authorities (as are, for example, military commanders and ministers, priests, monks, and rabbis of mainstream denominations).

The group teaches or implies that its supposedly exalted ends justify means that members would have considered unethical before joining the group (for example: collecting money for bogus charities).

The leadership induces guilt feelings in members in order to control them.

Members' subservience to the group causes them to cut ties with family and friends, and to give up personal goals and activities that were of interest before joining the group.

Members are expected to devote inordinate amounts of time to the group.

Members are encouraged or required to live and/or socialize only with other group members.

I know an elderly woman who has this guy's picture all over her home. I asked about all the photos because I knew that she wasn't likely a relative because she is Caucasion.

She explained that he had been her teacher for 30 years. I "googled" to find out about him. As with all cult leaders, he is extremely weathly living the good life in Malibu, California.

Check it out and don't fall for this nonsense. This guy lives like a KING!

I remember not so very long ago whenever I signed a petition or clicked to donate, I received a little butterfly. I had the option of displaying the reason for each butterfly on my profile. I liked this because it helped promote the petitions which I signed. This feature has been replaced with a display of how I used my butterfly rewards and I have no choice as to whether this is on my profile or not.

Also, I don't even get a non-reward butterfly for signing petitions offered by the non-profit partners. Most of the other petitions have no chance of success because they are poorly written with an improper target but they are worth FIFTY butterflies. Sometimes when I am ashamed of signing a poorly written one, I sign anonymously and collect my little butterflies. Oh, well, it is all for a good cause, I guess.

Now a battle is being fought in groups across Care 2 with different members wanting to add their favorite cause to the butterfly program (much like pork barrel spending in Congress). Also, some question whether the length of some comments posted on either a Care 2 News Story or Poll are worthy of 20 butterflies. None of us want to be guilty of BUTTERFLY ABUSE either.

I feel like I sound a little like Andy Rooney of 60 Minutes writing this blog. I wonder if anyone else will even read it.

I also feel like Alice In Wonderland on the other side of the Looking Glass. How about you?

The author is Professor Robert Watson of Lynn University who was once a writer for the New York Times.

Professor Watson writes:

Hi friends,

I am always being asked to grade Obama's presidency. In place of offering him a grade, I put together a list of his accomplishments thus far. I think you would agree that it is very impressive. His first six months have been even more active than FDRs or LBJs the two standards for such assessments. Yet, there is little media attention given to much of what he has done. Of late, the media is focusing almost exclusively on Obama's critics, without holding them responsible for the uncivil, unconstructive tone of their disagreements or without holding the previous administration responsible for getting us in such a deep hole. The misinformation and venom that now passes for political reporting and civic debate is beyond description.
As such, there is a need to set the record straight. What most impresses me is the fact that Obama has accomplished so much not from a heavy-handed or top-down approach but from a style that has institutionalized efforts to reach across the aisle, encourage vigorous debate, and utilize town halls and panels of experts in the policy-making process. Beyond the accomplishments, the process is good for democracy and our democratic processes have been battered and bruised in recent years.
Let me know if I missed anything in the list (surely I did).

Name: Governor Matt Blunt
Type: Tribute (for the living)
To Honor: Individual(s)
Location: Jefferson City, Missouri United States

This is an OP-ED by Stacey Lannert's attorney, Ellen Flottman which appeared at St. Louis Today.com

Blunt's commutation was an act of grace

In one of his last acts as governor, Matt Blunt commuted Stacey Lannert's sentence of life without the possibility of parole to 20 years' imprisonment. With that act of grace, Ms. Lannert's life began again.

Ms. Lannert was sexually abused by her father from age 8. Although some people claim there was no evidence of the abuse, the facts are clear. Ms. Lannert's cousin saw evidence of the abuse. Ms. Lannert told a babysitter, who told her only to "be strong." She told a school counselor, who did nothing. A psychologist told Ms. Lannert's mother that she showed all the signs of an abused child. Yet no one helped her. She shot her father, her abuser, when she was 18 years old and she feared that he was molesting her sister.

None of this is an excuse for murder. But society saves the sentence of life without parole for the worst of the worst. Only in recent years have we come to realize that victims of domestic violence are living in a war zone. They come to believe that no one can help them and that their abuser has ultimate control over them. When they resort to violence, they truly are acting in self-defense. And it is a tragedy for all of us.

In Ms. Lannert's situation, commutation was her last hope. She had fallen through the cracks of the legal system. Jurors who believed she had been sexually abused also found that she had committed first-degree murder, for which there was no option other than life without parole. A trial judge believed the sentence was too harsh but had no option but to sentence her to life without parole. Courts of review who found her situation sympathetic had no legal options. This is the situation for which commutation and pardon exist.

Commutation is an act of grace. It is an act of forgiveness. Mr. Blunt showed his integrity and courage in granting commutation to Ms. Lannert, and he is to be thanked for that. We don't have to condone, we don't even have to understand. We just have to forgive.

Ellen H. Flottman | St. Louis
