Sparkle

In an era where greed and hate prevail it is comforting that one can find solace, peace and tranquility. Through the velvety voice of the ever so talented Andrea Menard I found myself transported to a place where my mind can be at ease. Andrea and Robert Welsh wrote a beautiful song called “Evergreen” the first song of her new album “Sparkle”. Produced by Big Soul Productions and directed by Tony Hrynchuk, this piece is well worth experiencing.

Andrea, a Métis Native from Saskatchewan Canada, has become the ambassador of everything wholesome and pure in Canada. With the magic that Andrea is famous for she pierces the dark shroud of gloom that has engulfed both Canada and the U.S.A. with her beautiful voice in this wonderfully crafted video. I was whisked away from the harsh realities of contemporary life and placed on lush amber and green fields filled with blue skies. In some way I was given hope for the future for she reminded me that there is still beauty and joy in the tumultuous world we live.

Andrea is a magical creature gifted beyond words. Album after album of her wonderful music has proven to be enriching, endearing and well worth the wait. So take a moment of your time to enjoy this well crafted video and escape into the beautiful world of Andrea Menard. Maybe you will find solace and a little piece of mind if but for only a moment. Discover why she one of the top artists of all time.

Evergreen, the video;

There is nothing like shamelessly promoting friends of mine who just happen to be talented beyond words. Andrea Menard is just such a person. From stage, screen, TV and beyond Andrea has proven to be one of the most articulate actress/singer, writer, producer etc, etc, etc to come from the Prairie of Saskatchewan or anywhere else for that matter.

CANADAS RACIAL PROFILING, A GIANT STEP BACKWARDS

 It was just a field trip to the Thunder Bay Police Service Dennis Franklin Cromarty High School, and Aboriginal school from Thunder Bay, was conducting. The November 7th field trip was a part of their transitional training into mainstream Canadian society. The purpose was to teach them where to go if they needed assistance and help once they were away from tribal life. The lesson students learned was way more then they bargained for since one of their own was pulled from the ranks forced to disrobe and was interrogated.   Abraham Miles 17, was from the Fort Severn First Nation Reserve located along the shores of Hudson Bay. He was wearing a shirt manufactured by Warchief Native Apparel depicting a Native chief in full headdress. The shirt like other Native designed cloths were designed to instill Native pride, unity and positivity. In short, it was simply a shirt with a Native theme imprinted on the front. The clothing manufacturer was based in Abe's home town and the pride of that Aboriginal community, such irony.   While the students were touring the Police Service headquarters and observant officer yanked the surprised student from the ranks of his peers and forced him to remove the shirt. Then without the presents of an adult he was removed to a room where he was interrogated about gang activity. Then the police took mug shots of this innocent student whose crime was wearing a shirt a cop did not like. This was a classic example of Canada's policy of racial profiling to say the least.   According to Grand Chief Stan Beardy of the Nishnawabe Aski Nation,   "The truth is, he was out here by himself, 500 miles from home. English is his second language. If that young man, 17 years old, tried to make reason with a six-foot policeman that weighs 300 pounds, what are his chances of being heard?"   Further, Chief Beardy said,   "We try to portray ourselves in a positive manner with our own art and our own artists. But instead, they just took him aside and said, You know, you're a Native person, the T-shirt says war chief, so it has to be gang-related."   The very notion a student would be subjugated for identifying with his Native Roots is simply appalling to say the very least. This is a classic example of this cancer that has spread across the United States and Canada in the form of racial profiling. Fact is, it tosses Canada back into the Dark Ages as it revels the second agenda of hate that still exists.   The students learned a valuable lesson though. Sadly they learned that racial hatred is alive and well and they can't trust the authorities or society whence they leave the sanctuary of their reserve. And people wonder why kids self medicate with booze and drugs. They learned more then school officials bargained for. They learned the reason why sorrow and futility are the norm in Native society.   Society tells Natives that it is time to forgive the wrongs of the past. And I contend "How can we forgive when we are still under siege?"

THE METIS OF BLACK TICKLE, LABRADOR a culture under siege.

Why is it all to familiar the needs of Aboriginal people always take a back burner by the conquering people? Such is the case of this impoverished fishing village of about 250 residents. Predominantly Metis, they do not have clean and clear drinking water and no sewage system what so ever. They use “Honey buckets” for their personal needs and use other buckets to fetch drinking water from polluted wells that contain e-coli bacteria. Boy that sounds all to familiar since this is more common than not in Native enclaves across the America’s.

Is the Canadian government learning lessons in ambivalence from their neighbor to the south? Yea never know eh. But any hope for economical growth has been effectively silenced since Canada turned a deaf eat to their cries for autonomy and equality. They just wanted a small piece of the pie Canadian oil is bringing. If only they had a link to the Trans-Labrador Highway. If only they had a chance at the brass ring for its isolated location would make a wondrous tourist destination. And possibly they could have running clean water and flushing toilets. The kids who graduate high school would come back home after college.

The ambivalence of government officials is all too apparent to the residence in Black Tickle as Canada looks the other way. Many elderly residences say they have nowhere to go and are too old to relocate so they will most likely die unnoticed by the rest of the world. And another aboriginal community simply dies a slow and agonizing death. The governments excuse for not giving these people access to the Trans-Labrador Highway is because there is no infrastructure. Well as one local resident Livenda Keefe said, “How can we develop an infrastructure if we are not given a chance to make our way and find our place in the world, why can’t we have bed and breakfasts and tourism like Newfoundland and Labrador are promoting?” This is their home, this is where they come from and they don’t have anywhere else to go.

Like the Native’s of Alaska suffering the direct effects of global warming, the Canadian government is simply letting these people fend for themselves in the face of adversity. This is a primary fishing grounds with a rich bounty of sports fishing and crabbing. This had the makings of a great tourist industry if they were allowed access to this highway. Then there would be infrastructure since sports fisherman and tourists would come from all points of the globe to fish and play in this potentially fabulous community.

I would hate to think this is intentional like many of the residence believe. They said the government is slowly removing and vestige of hope and economical growth. They believe the government is slowly placing a strangle hold on this community so they will eventually move away.

If this was happening in the USA it would be obvious that this was intentional. Whence the impoverished people were finally gone then developers with the big bucks would open up the link to the trans-Labrador Highway and develop the hell out of Black Tickle and turn this once humble fishing village into a fabulous resort and possible make this a port of call for the luxury lines filled with big spending tourist.

Oh Canada, why are you allowing this to happen? Have you actually turned into the 51st State and are now following George W. Bush’s lead in embracing Corporations within the tourist industry at the expense of the people you are supposed to serve? It would be terrible to think this was actually a conspiracy.

Oh Canada, this story is going world wide and the eyes of the world are upon you.

And let it be known to the good people of Dark Tickle of all cultures,

We hear your pleas for help and you are not voiceless anymore.
