"Please do not turn on A/C as soon as you enter the car
on a HOT day.
Open the windows first upon entering your car to let the car air out for a bit, and then turn on the air-conditioning.
Here's why: According to research, the car dashboard, upholstery and air freshener emit Benzene, a cancer-causing toxin, carcinogen. Take time to observe the smell of heated plastic in your car.
In addition to causing cancer, Benzene poisons your bones, causes anemia and reduces white blood cells.. Prolonged exposure may cause Leukemia, increasing the risk of cancer. May also cause miscarriage.
Acceptable Benzene level indoors is 50 mg per sq. ft.. A car parked indoors with windows closed will contain 400-800 mg of Benzene. If parked outdoors under the sun at a temperature above 60 degrees F (10 degrees C), the Benzene level goes up to 2000-4000 mg, 40 times the acceptable level.
People who get into the car, keeping windows closed will inevitably inhale, in quick succession, excessive amounts of the toxin.
Benzene is a toxin that affects your kidneys and liver.. What's worse, it is extremely difficult for your body to expel this toxic stuff.
So friends, please open the windows and door of your car - give time for interior to air out - dispel the deadly stuff - before you enter, and particularly before you turn on the air conditioner to circulate and get a big blast of this stuff!!"
Trade-In Your Junk Car for $4,500 "Obama just signed the Cash for Clunkers bill, also known as Car Allowance Rebate System (CAR, which will give vouchers up to $4,500 dollars, to people who trade in their gas-guzzling vehicles to buy a new, more fuel efficient car. To qualify, your car or truck must get 18 miles per gallon, or less. To get the biggest voucher, you have to get a car that improves your gas mileage by 10 miles per gallon. There is a step-by-step guide on how to take advantage of CARS as well as frequently asked questions here: http://www.cars.gov/ "
There are ways we can move towards sustainable transportation TODAY, one person at a time.
Buy an electric scooter/bike, then recharge it with solar cells going through a small inverter you can buy just about anywhere for about $20. Guess what kind of mileage this kind of vehicle gets? 10000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000 miles per ounce of gas.
I bought a fancy version that looks like a motorcycle for $800. Electric scooters are available for around $200 that are not as fancy as the one pictured.
Electric bikes and scooters do not need licenses, registration, titles or insurance.
Mine gets about 200 miles per charge and looks COOL. It gets rave comments whereever I go.
Start a trend. Get an electric scooter and then use it for around town stuff instead of a huge behemoth car.
It is not as good as walking everywhere, but then again, it is better than driving a huge gas guzzling beast that does nothing but destroy the environment.
