When we designated Essentials of Life Holistic Enrichment Center as an Interfaith Church, was because we believed it should be a place where people of all faiths and religions should be able to come and feel welcome. That is still what we believe. It is also out of respect for all religions, because if they are based in Love, then they cannot be too far off of the mark, for God is Love. Every religion has within it the capability of enriching people's lives in a spiritual manner, and of helping them to live better and more fulfilling lives, prospering in the ever-present abundance of God's holy Love. This is a very beautiful thing. People come together in the name of Peace and Love in every religion. Interfaith helps us to recognize the Oneness and Unity of All.
But.....Does it go far enough? These are questions I've asked myself all along as the founder of Essentials of Life Holistic Enrichment Center. Interfaith is more expanded than Interdenominational, because Interdenominational implies strictly a Christian stance. I was raised in the tradition of what's known as Practical Christianity, but I didn't want to restrict us to being only a Christian church. I mean, what is that? Really? To which Christian church would Jesus belong? I think Jesus would want people of all faiths to be served in the name of Love. I think Buddha would want the same thing. That's what the God in all of us wants.
So Interfaith became the descriptive term we embraced. But I ask again, does it go far enough? What about those of no particular religious belief, but having rather a more individualized spiritual outlook on life? What about those who wish to actually transcend religion? These are more the ideas that we embrace in our vision and heart. Religion has been used throughout the ages as a control mechanism.
What if we took the spiritual aspects of what is contained in the teachings, and leave the politics out?! Looking at history when studying religion is a very valuable and important tool. Religion has become so impure in the way it has been passed down, and there is much speculation as to how much of it's even true. Spirituality, on the other hand, can also be defined as a sense of Truth. Truth with a capital "T!" The Spiritual aspects of Life and the Universe never change. If we allow ourselves to be guided by this Perfect Wisdom and Light, we will manifest heaven on earth! This is what Essentials of Life Holistic Enrichment Center is all about! It is about healing the world, not getting caught up in this religion or that. We draw wisdom from all religions and we have the deepest respect for the wisdom and traditions they share, but the important thing is the Love.
So what do we call ourselves to reflect that this is not only a church for those who belong to this church or that? Some religions don't even all it a church, and it is not necessary that anyone does. But how do we present ourselves so that it is clear people of all faiths are welcome and also those who do not associate with a particular faith? We respect everyone's belief in God, and we respect those who do not even use the word, "God." We identify God as, "God is Good, God is Love, God is Life!"
Well, one day our worship service director, Rev. Holly Rowley, asks me if we are sure we want to call our weekly service an Interfaith Service, or perhaps did we want to call it an Interspiritual Service, instead. She said she was ordained in both traditions. To this I said, "Hmmmmm...." to myself. I'd never before heard that term!
We just happen to be in the phase of development here as to be writing the Articles of Incorporation, the Constitution and Bylaws, and the Policies and Procedures for Essentials of Life Holistic Enrichment Center, Inc. Wow is that a hard job to put Spirit down in legal terms, but it has to be done! So, I think it's quite timely that I am made aware of this term at this point in time, because it gives time to put it down on this legal paper we're writing now!
You see, it is very important what we write in our Articles of Incorporation, etc., about what our purpose is and what it is in which we believe. We could have been done with all of this most dreaded and boring task of paperwork had it not been for this pesky idea of doing it right! We're not like any other church of which I know, although we have bits and pieces of many. It is important to write it down not only legally, but also so we, ourselves, know what it is we are here to do as a church. Our work is in healing the world! We need to focus on just exactly how it is we are to proceed!
So, in defining who it is that we are, choosing a proper designation for our spiritual approach is very important. We are holistic in outlook. We know that much for sure. It is as basic to us as the Trinity is. In fact, we see them as one in the same. We also know we believe that healing is natural, and that we are meant to be healers and that our environment is supportive to us in that role. We are created in the image and likeness of God, springing forth from our Mother Earth. We want to celebrate THIS! We want to learn who we are as brothers and sisters, and how to support life on earth! ALL life on earth! We want to act in a manner congruent with the Truth of our natural selves.
So, what do the various Christian sects say? What about Buddhists? What about those of the Jewish faith? What do the Essenes have to say? What about Hindus? Or Muslims? What do these religions say about God, about Love, about healing, about ancient traditions and paths to spiritual enlightenment and bliss? What wisdom do they have to share? But most importantly...and come to find out what they all have to say...is that the Truth can be found..................................................WITHIN!
So what is the difference between Interfaith and Interspiritual? In my mind it is the difference between studying what different religions have to say and studying what different individuals share of their own experience of God and Love and healing.
Yes, we can share these religions, and their wisdom is valuable and we never, ever want to interfere with someone's practices and traditions held dear, but...what we are here to share is our spiritual understanding and love for God, ourselves and each other as we continue our quest for the Truth about how to heal according to God's natural plan. (If anyone does not relate to the word, "God," substitute, "Good, Love and/or Life." I simplify it by saying, "God."
So back to the topic at hand, what is the difference between the two terms, "Interfaith" and "Interspiritual?" Here's what I found so far. First, I looked on the website for the school Rev. Holly attended to see what they had to say. She attended One Spirit Interfaith Seminary in New York, New York. It's amazing how much their definition of Interspirituality reflected the heart of this church. I took this directly from their website at http://onespiritinterfaith.org/:
The Interfaith initiatives of the late twentieth centuryâthe opening of dialogue and sharing of wisdom among leaders and practitioners of different religions â have flowered into an exciting new possibility for spiritual exploration and expression. The late Wayne Teasdale, author of The Mystic Heart, coined the term âInterspiritualityâ to describe this new spiritual perspective.
Beneath the diversity of theological beliefs, rites, and observances lies a deeper unity of experience that is our shared spiritual heritage. Mystical spirituality is the origin of all the world religions, and every authentic spiritual path offers unique perspectives and rich insights into this, direct experience of truth. In our time, the wisdom and depth of all paths are available to anyone who brings an open mind, generous spirit and heart to the search across traditions.
All authentic spiritual paths, at their mystical core, are committed to the common values of peace, compassionate service, and love for all creation. An inner life awakened to responsibility and love naturally expresses itself through engaged spirituality, in âacts of compassionâ¦, contributing to the transformation of the world and the building of a nonviolent, peace-loving culture that includes everyone.â (The Mystic Heart)
Wow! I found out through reading the above passage that we are indeed an Interspiritual Church!
So, let it be known, from this day forth, that Essentials of Life Holistic Enrichment Center is an Interspiritual Church. The above passage perfectly represents our purpose here! Thank you so much to Rev. Holly, to the One Spirit Interfaith Seminary and to the late Wayne Teasdale, author of, The Mystic Heart. Thank you also to Kurt Johnson who is the author of, The Coming of the Interspiritual Age, featured in the video below. Please take the next 26 minutes to watch this very insightful video on the topic at hand. It will explain much of what we are about.
Life on this planet was placed here to LIVE. We must cooperate and learn to live together...with all religions...all creatures...all plant life...the environment in its totality is in a mutually beneficial relationship with us. We are all part of life on this earth. God on this earth. God is Life. Interspirituality implies a connection between all which is very real regardless of anything else. We are connected on a much deeper level than any religion can possibly define. Interspirituality is as infinite as Infinite Love!
adherence to moral and ethical principles; soundness of moral character; honesty.
the state of being whole, entire, or undiminished: to preserve the integrity of the empire.
a sound, unimpaired, or perfect condition: the integrity of a ship's hull.
Integrity of Spirit, mind and body. Adherence to moral and ethic principles, not only belief. This is connecte to the state of being whole, entire or undiminished. This is how we were created to be. Adherence to moral and ethical principles leads to soundness of moral character, exemplifying honesty and truth, unimpaired, in perfect condition. Sound.
Integrity is very closely related to purity. Purity also denotes an unimpaired, perfect condition.
the condition or quality of being pure; freedom from anything that debases, contaminates, pollutes, etc.: the purity of drinking water.
freedom from any admixture or modifying addition.
Purity indicates freedom from anything that debases, contaminates, or pollutes.
So purity and integrity both indicate strength in that they are undiminished and unimpaired, presenting themselves as created to be. Do we want integrity? Then we must maintain our honesty and purity on all levels. This will keep us strong.
Purity in Spirit. Integrity. Honesty. Truth. Adherence to moral and ethical principles. Doing that which is right! This maintains our strength. Anything less will diminish our strength. When our intentions are impure, will will falter and become weak. We also weaken ourselves when we do not live up to ethical standards of Truth. Guilt, indifference, dishonesty, selfishness, laziness, judging and blaming...these all sidetrack us and slow us down. In order to strengthen ourselves we must be honest and straightforward in our efforts to live up to the highest standards we can.
Purity of Mind. Honesty in what we tell ourselves and others. Honesty always reflects the Truth of our divinity, as we were created in the image and likeness of God. Anything less is not True, no matter what appearances say. To have purity of mind means to see this and not the illusion of imperfection, which we manifest with our beliefs. Manifest that which is True by preserving the integrity of our True Nature, pure and perfect as we were created to be. Our reality on earth is set in our mind. To bring heaven about on this earth is to bring into manifestation the perfection of heavenly design. This is God's will for us. To see the perfection beyond the illusion of imperfection is to keep the mind pure. Also be pure in motive. Rigorous honesty is what makes us strong. To thine own self be true. Thy inner self, not the self of selfish motives, but the inner self which is Pure. Be true to that part of you which is Perfect Love. Integrity is the inner strength which purity brings.
Purity of Body. This is where the action occurs. This is our physical world. Keep it pure! Keep the earth pure, the air pure, the water pure, the food pure...this will purify our physical world and maintain integrity on the physical plane. Strength.
This is true of the earth as a whole and it is true of our own personal bodies. What you breathe, drink and eat should be pure to maintain natural integrity and strength.
The products you use on your body enter your pores, and therefore these should also be pure. Anything less than pure is dishonest, because integrity and truth are not presence. Purity is freedom from anything else added in.
Honesty. Truth. Integrity. Purity. Strength.
Honesty is presenting something as it really is. Artificial means fake. Not real. Honest in food is real food. Artificial food is a lie. It deceives. It will not bring the strength that you seek. Purity in food means nothing else added in. Freedom from admixture or modifying addition. Adding artificial ingredients in means our food is no longer pure, lacks integrity, and is associated with weakness rather than strength. I don't know how to say it any more clearly than that.
Do we lack integrity? We may not think so because we don't openly lie, or because we do what we say we will do in our daily actions. We always try to do the best that we can for others. But do we really do the best that we can, or simply the best we know how? For real integrity, perhaps we need to expand our idea of doing our best. Doing the best that we can means DOING the best that we are truly capable of....in all areas of spirit, mind and body....not just those areas which are convenient for us.
Strive for integrity on all levels by keeping it pure. Ask yourself if the way you are thinking or acting is in keeping with Original Plan.
What is meant by, "Original Plan?" It's acting in accordance with the way we were designed, and respecting and using the resources provided to us as they were designed to be used. Do we have faith in how we were designed? Make it pure faith by behaving like we believe we were created in the image of God! Purify your faith as well by behaving as if you believe the earth is the perfect environment for us.
Stop blaming the ragweed and find out why your own strength has been weakened. There's no such thing as the "flu season," and plants are here for our good. There are many examples that could be used. The point is that do we believe we were placed on this planet by accident? It will support us in life if we purify our use of the elements and if we purify ourselves in our own hearts and minds. Why would we ever choose to diminish our strength?
Spiritual impurities we can avoid include such things as hatred, blame, intolerance, cruelty, violence, gossiping, stealing, lying, cheating, imposing our will upon others, greed, selfishness, indifference and anything other than love. ANYTHING other than love in all cases. ALL cases...not just those that matter to us.
Mental impurities include negative thinking, doubt, worry, judgemental attitudes, blame, jealousy, and other thought patterns which do not coincide with the Truth. We must discipline our minds to steady our course on that which is only True. The Truth is that we are created in the image and likeness of God. God is Love, God is Good, God is Life. Our minds are meant to be the connecting link between spirit and body. Are we using our minds in the proper manner?
Our mind should be used to direct our physical actions in ways that promote the will of God...Good...Good for us and everyone else. The mind is best used by focusing upon solutions rather than problems. Solutions are reflective of the pure nature of God, whereas the problems are distortions of Truth. To solve problems the solution must be focused upon in order to manifest Truth. Pure thoughts are essential to this. There is no room for the impurity of doubt, nor of lazy intentions or anything else that water it down. Anything less than the Truth of our Divinity will put us to one degree or another in a compromised world. Of course this is the human condition, but how far from the Truth do we wish to stray? This is the cause of all disease.
Properly using the mind as the connecting link between spirit and body will solve every problem there is, to the degree in which our thoughts and actions are pure.
Purity on the physical level means to live in accordance with natural laws. Physical impurities means to bring into our physical experience that which is not pure, and that which is not according to Natural Design. This includes synthetic aromas, foods, drinks, etc. This also includes any physical actions which are unnatural to us, as in overexertion or underexertion, for instance. Purity means to purely and solely act in accordance with our design.
Of course no one holds perfect ideals, perfect thoughts and maintains perfect adherence to natural laws, and that's okay. That's okay so long as we understand that the consequences are in direct relation to the purity of our intention, our thoughts and our actions are. Our strength relies on the purity which we display. The more impure our intentions, thoughts and actions, the weaker we will be come. To make impure means to dilute. Impurities dilute our strength.
Be strong! The way you were created to be! Do as much as you can to act in accordance with how you were originally designed. We were designed to be healthy and strong. Purity is the core of strength. Integrity is living the Truth.
We are ALL meant to be healers. Let's get that straight right from the start. We were created in the image and likeness of GOD.
Our bodies are magnificently and intricately designed to stay well and to function perfectly for us to be able to accomplish our purpose on earth. The earth was perfectly designed to meet all of our physical needs. Our spiritual needs can all be met through Love, both given and also received. Our mind is the connecting link, and the home of free will. If the body is cared for in the manner which is directed by spirit, there would be no problem, but sometimes the mind gets in the way. If all of our physical affairs and concerns of life o this earth were directed by spirit, there would be no problems at all. It takes great discipline being a human, because we succumb to so many temptations each day. It is in harnessing the mind and using it to direct our actions as guided by spirit that our problems begin to disappear one by one.
Oh, but there are more. Always more problems to deal with! Even the most astute healers have issues with which they (we) are faced. Nobody's "perfect" again in expression until they leave this world. Until then, there is always more improvement which can be done. ; There is always one more heart that person can touch, one more step closer to pure thoughts and intentions that can be taken, one more action of every day life which can be taken to bring us closer to our intended expression of God.
We were designed in such a way as to be self-healing, when provided the daily necessities we need. When today's lifestyle is so different that it was in the beginning of man's time on this earth, adjustments need to be made. For instance, we used to walk barefoot on the earth, giving us herbs through our feet intering into our bloodstream according to original design, plus we also got the benefit of being connected to the magnetic forces of the earth, balancing us through our own electro-magnetic energy system. We walked naked under the sun, openly receiving it's healing rays. There are light receptors on our skin, and also our pineal gland receives light through the eyes and sends it to receptor sites throughout the entire system. There is SO much to our design!
A sperm meets an egg and an entire human is made, and when a finger is cut, it will heal. There are so many examples of this! Organs growing back, even limbs have grown back...sight restored, hearing restored, hearts that have begun beating again after long pronounced dead. The body is divinely created and it has been given the innate power to heal!
How much of our body's design are we aware of? There is so much to learn! We can all teach each other so many things...things that the ancients knew. But learning is not enough. We have to apply what we learn into practical terms in our every day lives. There is so much to be done!
No one can do it all alone, well not many, and surely not I. I do much better in groups. "When two or more are gathered together in my name, there am I also." (Matthew 18:20) That says a lot to me right there in those words, with the name being that of All-Mighty Goodness and Love.
So, yes, healing can definitely occur on one's own, with no one but the person who is healing and God acting together, as One. But to heal in a group is a much easier route, and we can learn so much more together that way!
The more one becomes aware of the healing power and how to direct it towards helping others, the more our own healing awareness increases more and more and we, ourselves become healed. But as our awareness increases, so do our challenges, for we are being primed for the Divine. To heal ourselves is one thing, but to heal the whole world takes enough cooperation of healing energies to be able to lift others up. As we look around and see so much suffering, cruelty and war, we know there is much healing yet to be done. It is not enough to heal ourselves, our own families and even our friends. It is not enough to heal our clients. We, as healers, cannot stop until everyone in the whole world is healed. Then there will be peace on earth as in heaven again. With awareness comes responsibility. We are becoming more aware how to heal.
Wow. That's a tall order! Don't stop learning to heal until the whole world is healed? Well, yes! That's what we're called to do. Did I hear someone cry that we're only human? No, we are not! We are created in the image and likeness of God!
We are human, though, yes, and our human nature has its limitations. That's why all healers are in need of a healer. We get tired trying to heal the whole world! We need others to teach us and heal us. We need others to lend new perspectives to us. We need others to give us massages and do energy work on us, too! We need to allow ourselves to be continually healed, just like we ask those we're helping to do.
We no longer live in that world of Eden, when everyone drew herbs up through their feet and had a multitude of food at our fingertips every day. We live in a world where we wear shoes, sit in front of computers that scramble our brainwaves, and horrible food choices are what's readily available to us. We have to go outside of the norm to even be properly fed! It is extremely important at this time in history to be conscious of reconnecting to our energy Source. We need to spend time in prayer, make a point of walking barefoot sometimes, and possibly buying a magnetic mattress pad to put on our bed! Herbal supplements are very important, and taking care to eat foods which carry the active healing vibration of nature. Ridding our homes of toxic fragrances and replacing them with natural healing fragrances is also more important than most people know! Do everything possible to make your own Garden of Eden in which to live.
And then, invite in your friends, and help them to heal, and allow them to help you heal, too!
Essentials of Life Holistic Enrichment Center is an interfaith church based on healing. We teach others that they're healers, too. We focus on healing each other and then taking our renewed sense of wellness out into the world, coming back to center here in support of each other again. Everyone needs to be healed!
God gives us challenges to match our willingness, so when a person is willing, sometimes it seems like they have so much against them, and this doesn't always seem fair. The idea is to strengthen, however, not become weaker, which is what doubt will do. There are always more challenges to face, giving us the opportunity to become stronger each day. In healing, we need to be strong. Again, we are working to uplift the whole world! It takes perseverance, discipline, willingness, humility, gratitude, and focus. It takes a whole village. That's what we are. Join us and let us all be the healers to each other we need as we go out to spread healing joy to the world!
Every teacher needs a teacher, every counselor needs a counselor, every minister needs a minister...healers are all of those things, so are you. It is easy for helpers to get so busy helping that they forget they also need help. But we do. Everyone does and especially those extending so much energy to others. If we allow our own needs to go unmet, though, our own reserves will run dry. That's how healers can easily become burned out, so to speak, callous, or disconnected from the work that we do. Then it's simply rote, at best, and can actually turn harmful to not only ourselves, but those whom we would wish to serve. We need to serve each other and hold each other up in our healing work, remembering always, that God is the Healer of All. We are but servants, and it is our DUTY to keep our instrument tuned. Allow yourself to be healed. Please join us in the spirit of healing Love. We are a church full of healers! Let's heal ourselves, each other and the whole world, through the power given to each one of us.
Okay. Maybe your health is currently in a bad way, or not as good as you'd like at any rate. You're anxious to turn it around. You want to try everything and everything because you're sick and tired of feeling so sick and tired. You're full of enthusiasm, or at least willingness, and you want to get started with this. What a lot of people do at this point is to jump in with both feet, and this is good, but....easy does it! Forcing a healing won't work!
I've seen so many people load up on supplements, only to have them fill up their cupboard space and never get used. Why? Because they bought too many and don't know how to properly use them, perhaps. Then when they don't work disappointment ensues, and a misunderstanding about why these supplements didn't do what they hoped they would do occurs. Many people give up then, thinking they've tried it all, which of course, is never actually the case.
In regards to herbal remedies and supplements, though, there are many important things to consider regarding their effective use. Proper cultivation, storage, formulating, processing and other factors enter into the picture. The very best herbs come from your own yard, naturally grown, such as dandelion, plantain and many other wonderful plants commonly mistaken for weeds. God made it real easy to always get what we need! But usually we purchase our herbs for convenience, rather than mixing and making up our own recipes, because today's world is a different place. I make up formulas, but I've devoted my life to it, so I may not be the best example of how many do this themselves! I can tell you, not many do. I teach whoever would like to learn! In the meanwhile, research the company who supplies your nutritional supplement products. It matters a great deal how the products are produced, and there is a HUGE quality variance out there on the product shelves.
Nature's Sunshine is a very good company. Their knowledge, product quality, experience, and integrity cannot be topped. You can find them at www.eolhec.mynsp.com. They have an excellent customer service department, or you can contact us here, too, if you need help. This is keeping it much simpler than wondering if this brand or that brand is good, who to ask for help, and also educational support is available through Nature's Sunshine. Most importantly, you know the quality is good. I could write a lot about that but I won't in the interest of staying within the scope of what I'm writing today. What I will say, however, is that it's much easier to decide which supplements to use with the help of experts. Nature's Sunshine is the company most often recommended by natural health professionals. They're also easy for the individual to order themselves and they generally arrive at your door the next business day if ordered by noon. What could be easier than that? Also, their membership program is the easiest and best that I've seen, accommodating everyone's needs.
Easy does it regarding changes in diet, as well...but DO IT! I'm sure there are improvements which could be made, as I've met very few with a perfect diet, and there's could probably be tweaked even more. Making too many changes at once, though, can cause a person to give up all together, or create stress which is also detrimental to heath.
Pick a place to start. Maybe it's discovering more healthy snacks to replace the ones you currently crave. (Hint...cravings are due to nutritional deficiencies...using flax seed, for instance, will curb cravings for fat. Flax seed offers nourishment while potato chips just offer fat! With sugar cravings, it's chromium the body is looking for, as it has been lost in the refining process.)
The easiest way to curb cravings is to only put real food items into the cupboard. It's easy to find good things to snack on when good things are readily available. It's a little more difficult to get in the car and go get something when a craving hits than it is to walk into the kitchen. So put the healthy foods in the cupboards and make it easier to grab those items first. (Then, if you do go out, go to a grocery store, not a convenience store or a fast food place...it's easier to resist the temptation when you've made a specific commitment to yourself, first. Easy does it, you know! Make good choices as easy to make as you can!)
Perhaps your ready to cut down on meat consumption. A vegan diet is far superior to one loaded with animal products. Maybe going straight to a plant-based diet is moving too fast for you, though. Try changing one meal a day, or one day a week...gradually work your way up exploring new ways of preparing food that you'll like. It's easier to let go of something you enjoy but which does not serve you well when you have something else you enjoy to replace it with. Even a 5% reduction in animal products will benefit you, and the animals, of course, at the same time. Think of what a 10% reduction might do! Or 20, 25, 50 or 100%! You pick the goal, but there's nothing wrong with taking it at your own pace. If you can do 100%, that is great! But even 5% is better than none. This is true of every achievement your working to make.
At Essentials of Life Holistic Enrichment Center, we recommend a raw vegan diet, because it is the diet which provides the most nutrients, and also because it is the diet originally provided to us in the beginning. The body was not designed to consume animal products, and the act of so doing is unnatural to us. There is violence also involved, and violence is always an unholy act. There are so many other alternatives to this, which are proven to be the healthier choice.
In the beginning we didn't have fire, and food was not made to be heated the way that it is today. Enzymes are destroyed in the heating process, and enzymes are needed to help with the digestive process, so as not to tax the body by using systemic enzymes for the digestion of food. Food not properly digested is accountable for almost all disease that we know. There is an absorption and elimination system in the body designed to take nutrients in and move poisons out of the body, but this system is food activated, and we're tampering with how it all works whenever we change food from its original form. The easiest way for the body to move it through is as it was given by God. The easiest way to balance weight issues, become strong and clear minded, overcome illness, etc., is by using food as medicine. We are designed to be healthy and strong with the proper food.
Maybe the thought of 100% raw sounds awful to you. How much of your diet is made up of raw foods right now? Increase it by 5%. Then later, you can increase it again. See how easy it can really be? Making it simpler still is the truth that the more you eat of the good stuff the less you will want the bad. There should be no force in diet involved. Gentle persuasion and slow steady action works best. Try raw chocolate! There's a real good reward! Healthy enough to give the kids for breakfast before they go to school! That's hard to believe, but it would be the most nutritious meal they've had in awhile! Raw foods are incredibly packed with the nutrition we need.
Exercise is the same way. Start slowly, but start! Or gradually increase the amount if you're already on an exercise program. Unless you're already pushing too hard. Exercise is often one of those things that can get out of balance in the other direction, bring about the need for rest. But most of us, sadly, do not get enough. Choose what type to start with...anything....walking, hiking, bicycling, going to the gym, yoga, aerobics., dancing...your choice. Pick something you'll like so you'll do it! Exercise isn't something you just read or think about, it actually has to be done! But easy does it. Doing too much at first will tire you out, make you sore, and most likely you will give up It's better to start where you are than at where you think you should already be.
Water...add to what you're drinking now and increase the amount every day. To just think you're going to start drinking a gallon a day when you drink no plain water at all is just silly. You won't do it, and you know it and I know it, and so just start drinking a little bit more. Keep track and increase it each day. A glass an hour is a great goal.
Stopping bad habits? Sometimes smoking one less cigarette a day is a good way to stop. It's easier that way. Ease oftentimes is a good indication of success. If a person finds something to hard to do, it might be easier to just give up. Doing a little bit at a time...taking it easy..might be the difference between whether you do it or not. An easy way to stop smoking is to add lobelia herb to your daily routine, one capsule three times a day, and don't worry at first about quitting. Take your lobelia, which is a good herb which reduces cravings and helps clean out the lungs. Meanwhile, instead of saying "I need a cigarette," say that you "want" one, instead. It implants the idea of choice, making it much easier to stop when you do.
Doing things the easy way often gets a bad rap, but it gets things done!
Healing takes time. Patience is very imortant, coupled with perseverance. Some things you can do right away with no problem, others you should start slowly. I usually suggest to start with aroma. Throwing out every single spray, powder, liquid, soap, perfume, air freshener and everything else in your home which contains artificial fragrance will not hurt you a bit! If you have to start out extreme in an area, that's a really good place to start! People don't seem to realize how very toxic those chemicals are! Replace them with fragrance free or pure essential oils.
Getting the toxic fragrances out of the house is a good place to start, but also adding aromatherapy in is real good. That's where I like to start people at when I work with them as a naturopathic doctor, helping them in improving their health. Not with thousands of herbs, but with a few drops of well chosen oils every day. Then we start with adding a good nutritional basis, then with cleansing, then finally with targeted herbs. Sometimes it might be nearly two months before we even start on the remedies for what the person originally was complaining of. That's because by going slowly, laying the foundation and removing toxins in a general way, the body often corrects itself without having to directly address the problem. The slow approach is often the much quicker way to a deeper healing than what at first glance appears to be working much faster than this. Chemical drugs give the appearance of working quickly, but the symptoms are diverted and show up instead by way of the side-effects.
Nature's system of healing is simple....nourish, cleanse, balance. Not nearly as complicated as we suppose. It doesn't matter the name of the disease, these three steps will work every time. In natural healing we look at body systems and work to support how the body functions,, rather than focusing on the disease.
"Easy Does It" is a slogan used in 12 Step programs a lot. It's a slogan that works!
The important thing is to focus on wellness, not on sickness, and just enjoy your life, making every day a new healing adventure. Start where you are on this journey, and don't worry how long it will take or anything else. Just put one foot in front of the other and walk on the healing path. Don't run. You're liable to fall. Walking a slow steady pace will get you there, as surely as the tortoise arrived ahead of the hare. Take time to smell the flowers...that's part of your healing! Take time for rest...that's part of your healing, as well! Take time for fun...you guessed it...healing! Take time each day for YOU...and enjoy the process of getting well!
Healing is meant to be fun, it is meant to be enjoyed, and it is meant to be shared. Thank you for allowing us to be part of your healing journey. Please don't give up, we are here healing right with you. None of us are there totally yet, but we're on our way...so are you. Essentials of Life Holistic Enrichment Center...A Place to Come Together and GROW! We're all learning. Thank you for learning and growing with us. God meant for healing to be easy! So let's do it, beginning with this moment right now!
Healing is a lifelong endeavor. No one ever "tries it all" or "gets there." Not until they die away to this earthly life. There's always more to learn, more to heal, more bad habits to break, more people to forgive, more patterns of thought to revise, new little aches and pains that crop up...it's nothing to feel guilty about or to be judged for. These are all things to be healed. Healing is meant to be easy, daily and ongoing. It's something to be involved in every moment of the day. Smile! Smell a flower! Say something nice to a friend! Healing is happening NOW.
Ignorance is bliss, so they say, but I choose awareness. However, awareness comes with responsibility. That responsibility involves two things. One of those thing is living up to the awareness the best that I can, and the other is sharing with those who don't always care to know, as they go along blissfully in their ignorance. That's their prerogative, so long as it doesn't hurt anyone.
BUT ALL TOO OFTEN IT DOES!
Ignorance only seems to be bliss the problems it causes are not perceived, but they're there. Grace covers us for most of our ignorance..."Father forgive them for they know not what they do." But still, people pay, lives are lost, illnesses and poverty embarked upon. Ignorance does not stop wars, it does not stop brutality, it does not stop the world from being unjust. It just keeps us from seeing the truth. Do we choose to stay ignorant and remain in our own private bliss, or do we want to work at changing the world? This is the choice I am posing to you.
People go along in their daily lives, and eat their breakfast, get dressed and rush off to work, or stay at home and do what you do there. Either way, it's a routine that we get caught up in and it all revolves around our own daily lives. Do the laundry, feed the kids, get the car fixed, mow the lawn, go to lunch with some friends, see a movie, pay a visit to mom and dad...whatever it is that we do in a day, it's how we choose to spend our time. We trade a day of our life for each day, so we plan it according to what is important to us.
I guess that's the question I'm posing. What is important to you? Is it more important that you have coffee than it is to worry about from where it came or whether or not a child was enslaved? Is it more important that you have bacon than it is that an animal is raised in miserable conditions and then cruelly slaughtered just so you can have a taste, that actually doesn't even come from the meat, it comes from the additives that are put into the bacon. I don't think most bacon eaters are aware of that fact. But is it important to them? I have to wonder sometimes if people care. I guess that's harsh, when perhaps they don't even know.
There are so many things in the world we don't know, and so many that we never will know of how things are done. But sometimes it's important to find out some of these things, and not just let our mind be numbed into a state of ignorant bliss.
What things are important to you? Is your health important? I have to wonder if that is even something that most people value at all. Oh, they make a big hoopla about it, talking about it all the time, worrying, complaining, going to doctor's appointments, knowing all the facts about this or that disease, but do people take time to learn this and that about wellness and how to stay or get well through natural means? Some do, but I would think it would be higher on more people's list. If something is as important as health, it should be treated as just about the most important thing! Think about how to eat healthy...and learn how to do it then do it! Think about the importance of water....and drink it! And what about rest? I don't think many realize the importance of rest! Everyone seems to have so many other things that are considered more important to "do." And exercise? How important is that? Very! But how many just don't even give it a thought, or think that they don't have the time?
It seems like it's more important to do everything else. Part of it is the pressure of today's society, I know, but there are choices we have to make if we want to live as healthy a life as we can.
A lot of people seem to think it's enough to pray for a healing and then not change anything. We need to be active participants in healing. Spirit is one aspect of being. The physical is another part. I'm speaking here to the mind! It only makes sense that you have to engage all three aspects of being into your healing plan. You can pray all day for a glass of water, but if you don't get up and get it, you're likely to be thirsty awhile. Sometimes God will send someone to bring you a glass of water, but then again, sometimes not. Likewise, healing with prayer and not change of behavior is possible, but if we were that spiritually advanced we would already be well. Peter walked on the water, but he fell in. We can do it, but until our faith is strong enough, we'd better take a life-jacket along.
But still, people are out there falling into the water of serious illness because they refuse to take precautionary measure and just stay ignorantly bliss...until the illness ensues. Then they're not so bliss, but still ignorant and blaming everyone else. Ouch. That did sound harsh, but we need to wake up as a society and become more aware of our role in our own health! It's OUR health! Not the doctor's. Not the people on the TV ad or the pharmacist or anyone else's, just ours. We need to take responsibility for our own health if we want it to be good. Don't wait until there's a disease and then go running for help. Help yourself before it gets to that point.
The problem is most definitely a societal problem. In our modern American society it is common practice to listen to television with all the ads, then wake up, drink coffee, maybe eat something fast like eggs, donuts, toast, bacon, milk, or some combination thereof slammed down, off to the office or other work place, hurry, hurry, kids, traffic, run, run, more coffee, all day in a treadmill type job of some kind or another, deadlines, distractions, coffee, uncomfortable shoes, too much sitting, computer screens are hard on the eyes and brain, fluorescent lights and so many things all day long, fueled by coffee and donuts and maybe a salad from a carry out place if we're health conscious, but after work it's more rushing and hurrying then a glass of alcohol all to often as a means to relax first thing in the door. Supper is....probably highly processed....best guess. Dessert, TV, more alcohol, bed. Maybe some prescriptions three times a day. Water? Not much. How does anyone expect to stay healthy on that?
Or maybe it goes like this....fast food, fast food, fast food! And/or beer? Chips?
Soda Pop? Chemicals in food? Synthetic fragrances to disrupt our endocrine system all day with more chemicals to deal with, and our immune system, too? There are so many things which affect us, we need to be more informed and proactive if we want to stay well! Ignorance is not bliss, it is just, well, ignorant.
Where to start...get rid of the television ads for one thing. They are designed to keep people reliant upon what they are trying to sell. Hearing the ads over and over the way that they play them allows them to enter into our subconscious mind. Choose wisely your source of information, be it for the world news, the truth about health or the environment, anything you need to know. Look it up on the internet, and scrutinize the credibility of the information you find. Anyone can say anything. It's up to you to find the truth about things for yourself.
Another thing....I mentioned synthetic fragrances. Get rid of those, too, right off the bat. They're not only horrible for health, and research will back me on that, they are also horrid for the brain...keep in mind the location of the nose...fragrance goes right to the brain. Make it pure essential oils or natural fragrances, not chemicals which have side-effects.
Fragrances, foods, medicines all should be natural for a good reason....WE"RE natural...and healing is natural, too. It only makes sense. When you check facts, look to the source. Are they making a profit? The chemical industry, food industry and medical industry are verrrrrrrrrrrry profitable, and extremely inter-related if I might add. THINK for yourself. What they're saying doesn't make sense when you look at the numbers. The proof is in the pudding, if you will pardon the pun.
Food, water, rest, exercise, prayer, a positive mental outlook, friendship, colors, song, aroma, creative expression, love, laughter, tears....all healing...all good....all part of God's plan....rushing, hurrying, artificial substances...are all stressing the body too much, and the spirit and mind. THINK and then act with wisdom. Ignorance is not really bliss. It is the Truth which shall set us free.
Think, too, of the affect your actions have upon others. The earth. The animals. Your neighbors in this country or that. Don't be ignorant of the effect your choices have upon them. Make conscious choices in all that you do. Life consciously. Life in a state of awareness. This is where we all will find bliss.

Please reference our website as source of all quotes, and please quote in context. Thanks!
Alleluia is used as a chant which has been given in worship as an expression of glory to God in many traditions for many years. It has been sung by thousands upon thousands of voices over the years. The word carries a great vibration of gratitude and joy.
The book of Psalms in the Bible is an entire book of song. Many are of gratitude and many of lament, praying to God for help. Song has always been used in this way by varying cultures all over the world. Work songs are also included in this. Folk music...the song of the common folk.
We had a chanting workshop at Essentials of Life Holistic Enrichment Center over the weekend, and it was a wonderful experience for all who were there. We were gifted with a very talented and spiritual leader that day, Barbara Bellamy, and she beautifully explained so many things to us about the gift of healing which can be found through the voice. If you weren't able to be there, please know we'll definitely be doing this more!
The first thing Barbara taught was that there was no such thing as "tone deaf," which was exemplified to us by a 70 year old woman there in our group who did not realize, for all of those years, that she could sing, until that day. She sang beautifully, with tears of absolute joy, realizing that she, too, had the gift of song!
Nothing stirs the spirit quite like does music. We discussed many aspects of this, including the use of words versus the use of words in another language and the benefits of doing each, and also how singing songs which have been sung by others with similar prayers in their hearts to yours increases the power when the song is sung, such as in the case of the song, "Alleluia." We ended the day with this chant and the tears came pouring down my cheeks from my eyes, it was so powerful a chant.
The other song that brought instant tears to my eyes had lyrics that went, "I am so blessed, I am so grateful for all that I have." As we sang the words over and over again as a group, the feelings of gratitude began to overflow. Blessing upon blessing upon blessing began to fill up my my mind until the tears could not help but come. I am so blessed. I am so grateful for all that I have!
We did many such affirmations together set to song, repeating each over and over until the words and the music became imprinted upon our hearts. The tunes come back to me now as I sit.
It's easy to make up your own. We made up one using words from each of us in the group. I make up my own often, too. Just take an affirmation, and sing it! An affirmation is a positive blessing or thought that you'd like to give to yourself. It is a reminder of our connection with God. "God provides for all of my needs and I am abundantly supplied." "God is in every cell of my being, making me whole and well." "I am created in the image of Love." "I am at peace with the world." Anything that you'd like to turn into an affirmation, you can set to a simple song. You can even use just one simple note if you'd like. There is no right or wrong.
Then sing it! Sing it over...and over...and over again! Sing it while sitting quietly. Sing it while taking a walk. Sing it while you drive in your car. Sing it when you take a bath! Sing it over and over until it is a part of you, and then sing it some more! Make your prayers and affirmations your song.
Singing is one of God's healing gifts given to us in love. We may think we can't sing, but if you can talk, you can sing, so the saying goes, and it's true!
Barbara shared a beautiful story with us about how she was traveling to somewhere in Korea, and she could not believe that everyone in the whole place had such beautiful voices! They were singing everywhere, all through the town, in beautiful and perfect harmony and in perfect pitch! How could this possibly be that a whole town was blessed with such beautiful singers? It is because they let it out! They sing all the time! Beautiful singing comes natural to us, but if we don't use it, we think that we can't. We lose our pitch but our bodies can restore it again with practice and certain techniques. We lose muscle tone in the muscles which help us to sing, but those, too, can be restored. We can all learn how to sing if we'd like.
Maybe we think singing is just a frivolous hobby, but actually it's much more than that. Singing is a way for us to return our spirits, minds AND our bodies, as well, to a more harmonious state.
We are made up of vibrations, as are color, light, sound and all energy. Thoughts are made up of vibrations, as well. When we get sick, we are out of harmony. Singing helps the cells of the body return to a harmonious vibrations throughout. Harmonious sounds do this as well as the healing intent and the actual words.
Every layer added to healing intensifies the healing effect. Sound+thought+words+actions to back it all up is a good formula to use! Add vibrant color to this, even better. Aromatherapy is a welcome addition, as well! Add foods which are colorful and full of vibrant life, and a winning formula for harmony in your body system is practically ensured! Movement added to sound, likewise increases the healing effect. Movement kicks in different parts of the brain, and it helps the body to more completely assimilate the effects of the sound and distribute it throughout the body where it is needed the most. Singing massages the brain, the organs, and helps change our chemistry for the better. It is healing in so many ways, not to mention it lifts the mood through it's cathartic abilities and also it's beautiful way of going directly into the heart.
Singing also helps us to breathe better, and breathing not only connects us better to our spiritual self, which is why it has been emphasized in meditative practices for years upon years upon years, but it also helps us in extending our life. There have been studies done which show breathing capacity to be directly related to life expectancy, but this is not so hard to suppose. Breathing is what gives us our life! WIthout breath, within moments we cease to survive.
Many people give up on singing because it is too hard for them to breathe while they sing. Keep at it. Breathing will improve over time. Singing is an exercise, and as with all exercise, it has accumulative effects.
In much the same way, don't wait until you're happy to sing. Singing will actually help you to produce the brain chemistry needed to bring a feeling of well-being about! It can be euphoric, in fact! It can help comfort in times of sadness, and help to bring a feeling of calm back into your life. I like to get up in the morning and sing whether I'm happy or not. It really does make one feel better, if you give it just half a chance!
There are many ways to familiarize yourself with the art of singing for health, and there are many ways to begin. Might I suggest that you simply begin right now with ...singing! Or with becoming more familiar with your voice and what it can do. Go down the scale until you find the lowest note you can comfortably hit. Sing it over and over again...it might even just be a deep growly sound, but that is okay. Do it over and over a bit and then try and go one note lower. Maybe you can, maybe you can't, but if you do this every day then at some point your range may increase. So after you've found your lowest note then go up the scale to the top and do the same thing at the other end. Find your top note and then see if you can go one more. After than, then just play awhile, up and down. Try practice doing it with each vowel. Explore all that your voice can do!
Exploring is such a great way to learn. There are aso many vidotapes, books, and other resources to which you can turn to learn more. We will be having many events at the Essentials of Life Holistic Enrichment Center to which you are welcome to come, or look up what's happening in your area close by to where you live. YouTube is a good online source of finding these kinds of things if you don't live near where there are any events. Healing is a do-it-yourself kind of thing, it's just often more fun and sometimes yes, more effective, in groups. But consider us here as your group, and feel free to send us any questions of importance to you!
Singing is natural. Just listen to the sound of the birds. That same quality of sound is in you! Even if you have an old crackly, off-key, can't carry a tune in a bucket voice. Don't worry about any of all that...just SING!!! Alleluia! Glory to God!
And if you're in the area, please join us in song! We have sound healing groups going on, plus workshops frequently, and we want to incorporate song more into our practice in church and in everyday life. Check our events page at www.essentials-of-life.org/news.html.
Alleluia, Alleluia, Amen! "Vibraceous, ND"
Please reference our website as source of all quotes, and please quote in context. Thanks!
Dance! Dance! Everyone dance! Dance in your heart! Dance in your mind! Get up on your feet and dance!
Can't get on your feet? Dance in your bed! Movement will heal you, you see.
In fact, if we want to heal, we MUST move. To stay in the same spot is to stay in the same condition we're in. Movement goes hand in hand with any type of change which comes about. We move into the next moment in time.
To dance is to choreograph the changes in life, so as to speak, and to follow along with the music in a beautiful way, flowing perfectly to the rhythm and beat. To translate that into every day life is a beautiful thing. We can accomplish that through practicing dance in spirit, body and mind. By consciously practicing dance in each of these areas, we will strengthen our ability in the other two. The more we combine the practices, the more exponential will be the results.
The dance of the spirit is the dance of love. It is the dance of joy and of life. Even in sorrow, we dance. Imagine it as a beautiful dance, and allow yourself to move through the pain. The music is beautiful still.
The dance of the mind is to learn how to dance around negative thinking and listen only to the chosen song. If two songs are playing, it is important to focus on the one you are choreographed to. Same thing in life. Do you see what I mean? Dance to the song which springs forth from your own heart, not to what others are harping away at, banging their drums and rattling their tambourines. Keep your mind focused on the sound of your own heartstrings and continue to dance your own dance. It is a beautiful dance. Make it a dance of joy! If it is a sad dance, then dance out the sadness and then still end it in joy. You are the one choreographing the dance!
So now, for the physical dance, it is important to do it. It's not enough to think it, although thinking it is very good and will help. In fact, true success can not be achieved without the cooperation of mind, and spirit, of course. If our spirit does not want to dance we might as well hang up our dancing shoes. But not yet. Wait. The body has a way of convincing the spirit and mind! So step out onto that dance floor even if your heart isn't quite in it yet and your mind says there is no way. Turn on some music and just start to move. Do it right there in your own living room. Don't question it. Do it! Do it now! Don't let your mind tell you it's not in the mood!
The body is dependent upon a little bit of cooperation from the spirit or mind, either one, in order to be able to move. So, spirit...that part of you that still hopes you can feel better...get on your feet now and try. Mind...do it for the sake of curiosity if nothing else!
I have found in my practice that people can be very resistant to this idea, but when they try it, they will tell you without any doubt that it works.
Okay, here it is. If you're for whatever reason confined to your bed, you can practice moving whatever parts you can move. Each one. Start with the toes. Wiggle them. Do your ankles move? Can you bend at the knee? How about your fingers? Your wrists? Your elbows? Your neck? Explore each part that your able to move and then put the music om and enjoy! There are no excuses for not being able to dance! Even the paralyzed can participate by imagining each movement in their mind, focusing on each toe, each finger, each turn of the head in the dance. See it fervently in your own mind and listen to the music you'd like to see yourself dance beautifully to.
For the rest of us, get on your feet. No excuses. Turn on some music. Whatever music you'd like. If you're not in the mood, just pick something you like when you are in the mood, and then perhaps you'll get in the mood after we start.
This is a little bit of an exaggerated dance at first, and then after awhile it doesn't feel so exaggerated at all,, but more natural. Focus on each movement you make. Elongate the stretches. Notice how each part of your body feels as you move. Stretch this way and then that way, to keep it balanced as much as you can. Let your body relax and let go. Swirl, tap, move side to side, trying to mix up the movements a bit. Stretch, twist, open your chest up, feel how your organs feel as the movement massages them to wellness. It's good!
Side to side movements produce serotonin, which will help you sleep better and feel better all over. Crossing over movements promote right and left brain integration, helping us to solve problems better and function better overall in our life. Movement which involves pumping our calves helps to move lymphatic fluid around in our body, cleansing and nourishing our cells. Dancing helps promote deeper breathing. It also promotes balance, flexibility and strength...so many positive things...and each of these spills over into the mind and spirit, as well, making us more balanced, flexible and strong in all areas of life.
Start with one song...increase it to two. The next thing you know you'll be dancing a half hour or an hour a day! You'll love it so much that you won't want to stop! It changes our brain chemistry, is part of the reason why. Plus it really does make the body feel good! At first we may think it's too tiring, but to practice a little bit more every day builds us up.
If you think you are feeling too stiff, go easy, but do it. If you put on the music and start out by only moving those parts that you can, you will find your ability begins to increase. The willingness is required, as discussed above, but talk yourself into it...it's worth your while! If you can't move your hips because they hurt, then move your arms and your toes. Do it from in a chair if you must, but put on some music and try. Unless, of course, you want to stay where you are. But you won't. You'll get worse if you don't move. I hate to be so blunt, but it's true. It's proven that a sedentary lifestyle will lead sooner to disability and death.
A lot of people want to make excuses, but excuses don't change anything. If we want to dance the dance of excuses, that's fine, but we're not choreographing our own life in that way, and we are apt to not like the results. This discipline is about taking control and turning your life around as if in a pirouette. Do you want to choreograph your own life, or would you rather just cling to excuses instead?
You can take yoga classes, you can go to a trainer, you can take dance lessons, you can do zumba...all of these will help plus much more. You can take walks. You can do so many things which promote good healthy movement and I would recommend all of these things. But dancing is special. Dancing adds joy to the movement. Dancing in your living room to your own music is very personal and creative, which drives the healing even deeper than just only the physical practice of moving will do. Dancing has a magic all of its own! Dancing is expressive, helping us to release past emotions of pain, depression and fear. Dancing helps us move into joy.
So dance! Do it today! Dance every day of your life! You will enjoy better health and more peace of mind. You will get better sleep and you'll find that a lot of your aches and pains go away. You may even find that you're healing from conditions you did not know were even related, but trust me, they are. We are one being, and all parts are related in us! Dancing will help whatever the problem is if you give it a chance. That's not to say don't drink water, eat right, use herbs, not expose yourself to toxins, etc., but that is to say it will help. It sure couldn't hurt, I know that! If it does, then sit back down in your chair and dance with your toes, your ankles, your fingers, etc. Only try to move at your level of ability, but move. Movement moves toxins out of your body and allows your body to work as it should! How should it work? Very well!
Dance your own beautiful dance and be well. Why do you think God gave us song? Wanting to move our bodies to music is a very natural thing. It's all part of God's healing plan.Enjoy your healing dance!

There are as many ways to pray as there are people to pray times all the different ways that each individual one of them prays. We all pray in many ways, some of which we recognize, some of which we don't. We pray with every thought that we think.
If we are to believe God is everywhere present (Omnipresent) and all-knowing (Omniscient) then do we not think that which is in our hearts and our minds is apparent to God, or the Universe, however you choose to perceive the all-powerful (Omnipotent) Creator of all? Therefore, if prayers are communication with God, then we pray with every thought. What we commonly refer to as prayer is actually conscious prayer, to be more precise. We also perform unconscious prayer.
So, if we believe God answers prayers, then we better watch what we think!
What we think, what we say, what we do...these all reflect what we believe. It is what we believe in our hearts which actually comes true in our world. Do we think we're unworthy? Do we speak poorly of ourselves with words about perceived shortcomings we think we have or about what we are lacking in life? Do we step out on faith in a positive direction, or do we continue to act out the role of limitation and lack? There are many ways of thinking, talking and behaving which certainly can keep us down. The good news is that by the same token, the way we think, talk and act can have a positive effect as prayers become actualized!
Prayer is three-fold..spirit, mind and body What we believe in our heart, what we tell ourselves, and how we act it out. Holistic healing is always appropriate because spirit, mind and body are always involved in what is actualized throughout our lives.
Try an exercise for the next several days. Watch your thoughts. No judgement, just watch. Take note in the back of your mind, or you can write down your observations for increased awareness. That's what this exercise is designed to build--an increased awareness of your thought patterns and therefore your unconscious prayers.
How are your thoughts towards yourself? How you define yourself is exactly that, for you create the kind of person you are. Do you think thoughts of respect towards yourself? Do you hold yourself in high esteem? Do you see yourself as a powerful co-creator with God? Or do we think of ourselves in terms of perceived weakness, short-comings, helplessness, sickness and lack? Just observe your thought patterns, don't judge.
Also notice how you think about others. Are you harsh towards them? Judgmental? Resentful? Jealous? Do we lack patience and tolerance? How we look at others reveals more about how we truly feel about ourselves than it really does how we feel towards them. Even that which truly is directed at them hurts us as well, considering we are all one. Notice your general thought patterns towards others. Perhaps part of the reason your prayers don't seem to be getting answered in the way that you wish is due to the fact that you're holding back love in your heart. Remember, God is Love, and if God is to heal, then Love must be allowed into your heart...towards yourself, towards others...towards life.
Yes, towards life. ALL of it. The good, the bad and the ugly. ALL of it is GOOD, for God is Good, and all of it is Love. God is Love. God is also Life, and it is very important to pracetice Love in every aspect of Life, so that Life may be free to bestow blessing of Love, Goodness and Life upon you.
What goes around comes around. Forgive us our tresspasses as we forgive others. As we sow, so we reap. The love you take is equal to the love you make. No matter how you word it, it's true.
So after a few days of noticing thoughts, and whether or not they are loving and positive, then perhaps it's time to talk about the other form of prayer...Conscious Prayer.
In Conscious Prayer you direct your thoughts to a Higher Power, or God, however your choose to view God. The point is that you practice thinking more kind, loving and positive thoughts, reflective of gratitude and faith. Even if you have to pretend at first, teach yourself to think positive thoughts. You will have to retrain your mind.
But it goes beyond that. You also have to look into your heart when learning to forgive, because most often the fact is that it is the damaged hearts in the most need of healing who are the ones which need their minds retrained the most. Being hurt and feeling afraid and hopeless can often lead to thought patterns which defend against those we don't trust, which can come to mean the whole world, God and ourselves if we're hurt badly enough. This will need to be healed. Yes, fake it till you make it on saying affirmations and training your mind to think in a positive direction, but don't deny the hurt feelings or that just underscores that you don't matter. That's contrary to what we're trying to achieve.
So FEEL the feelings, but redirect them with love. Forgive yourself. Consciously. Forgive others consciously, too. Make a list of those who have hurt you. Those are the people who need your prayers most. Practice sending them love. Not going near them again if they are out of your life. Not making contact. Just sending love. That is all. Make sure your own name is on that list.
But yes, feel the feelings. It is okay. Send love, and if you want to cry, then there is nothing more healing than that. Let it out. You deserve it. You deserve to be healed. So do they. Releasing them from unforgiveness is just as healing for you as for them, but it is also healing for them. And isn't that what you'd want? For them to be healed and not hurt anyone that way again? Only when a person is out of harmony do they behave in hurtful ways. When someone is out of harmony they need to be healed. For us to be healed we have to allow for their healing, too. No true healing happens outside of Love. God is Love. If someone hurt you, it's okay to cry. Cry for you, cry for them, but keep Love in your heart and you'll be healed of the pain.
Take a day or two, too, to listen to your words? How do you speak to others about your own life? Do you report your problems to them? Do you wear your misery as if it's a badge? This is also drawing negative energy to you, and reflecting your intention to God. Sometimes people hang onto sickness because it gives them something interesting to talk about. Sometimes people hold onto sickness because they're looking for love. Sometimes people hold onto sickness because they're looking for an excuse to not do something they don't want to do, or are afraid they will not succeed at, and want a reason to say that they can't. It sounds absurd, but sometimes it's something like this. Not always, but sometimes. Do you see any of this in what you see about how you act?
Also notice whether or not your behaviour is that of someone to whom health is important? Are you taking care of yourself? Drinking lots of water? Eating fresh fruits and veggies, not junkfood out of a bag or something you pick up when you drive past a window? Does your food nourish your body with natural goodness or does it weaken it with artificial chemicals and synthetic vitamins which attempt to replace what's been stripped away? Do we exercise? Do we get enough sleep? Do we spend any time learning new ways to take care of our own health? Or do we take a more passive role and just hope things will be okay and if they're not we just expect the doctor can fix it, and then if that doesn't work we simply say that it can't be done....? I hope that does not sound like you!
So let's talk more about conscious prayer. Conscious prayer is prayer directed towards acknowledging the Good (God) in our life and giving thanks. This will increase our awareness of God, and our experience of Good will increase!
Conscious Prayer is prayer backed with intent. We are directing our positive thoughts and beliefs and wishes towards raising the vibrational pattern of a situation and bringing for the desired result of something good...in other words, calling forth God. This is very possible to do, and it is why people have practiced prayer all over the world for so long. The best way to do it, however, is in a spirit of thanksgiving, again, as above, for if we truly believe then we surely know that the answers to prayers have already all be provided to us. So our part is to discover the answers, and to learn to recognize the presence of God in our lives all the time, and to make use of what has been given as solutions to us.
So how do we consciously pray? By giving thanks, as mentioned above, and by working to increase our awareness, asking for the willingness to carry out God's will in our lives, and stilling our mind to gain the awareness and then following through with the action required. That's how prayers are answered. God has no hands but ours.
So for healing prayers, we already know God's will for us is to be healthy and well. This is true for others we pray for, as well. In order to effectively pray for a healing we need to give thanks that the spirit of God is within you or the other person, and recognize this Healing Power at work. We need to remember this, too, in our thoughts. This is where faith comes into play. Sometimes it has to be blind faith, in times when health seems so far from fact. We must remember the Truth that God is healing us now. And we must act like it, talk like it, and work together with God! You can't ask to lose weight and keep popping Twinkies into your mouth! We are CO-creators with God! (Created in the image and likeness of the Creator of all.)
When we pray for others, see them as well. Don't see them in the way we see with only our limited human eyes, but with our complete vision which includes the Perfect Vision of God. See them as whole, healthy and well, and know for them that God is in every cell of their being bringing wellness about, renewing, regenerating and restoring to them the vitality which is their natural right. Oftentimes when people pray, while their intentions are good, and that alone helps, but they all too often see the person in their weakend state, and this holds them to this vibrational level. Prayer is intended to help raise someone up in consciousness, bringing them closer to their natural state of well-being. To hold them in negative image is holding them down with lower vibrational rates. Thoughts (prayers) carry vibrational patterns. To effectively heal we have to think harmonious, uplifting thoughts and send these to them as if they had angel's wings to actually lift them and help them to fly!
So healing prayer is not begging, it is believing that health already exists within the person...or animal...or situation...or relationship...whatever it is you are trying to heal. Rule one. Stop trying. It is already done. Just ask for awareness and willingness to act in accordance with the good of all, and then all that's left to do is give thanks! This is the most healing prayer, for yourself, for others and for the world. Stop seeing the sickness and start living as if wellness exists! Sounds simple, but give it a good honest try. Start with just observing, and then move on to change. Imagine how you, the other person, the animal, the relationship or the situation would look in its Perfect Form. This is the Truth. Anything less than the Truth is an illusion. The Perfect Presence of God is Everywhere, Active and Alive at All Times. (Capital letters because all is holy, because All is God!) The Truth shall set us free. We need to stop living a lie. The lie is that we need sickness, war, poverty, injustice and greed. The Truth is that all of our needs are provided for and the only thing we need is Love.
As I sit here writing, I notice how peaceful it is, but yet there are many sounds. It's a matter of where I put my awareness. Let's try something together right now.
Take a breath in. Breath out. What do you hear in that breath? I hear the fan. Next breath. Focus on someting else. I hear the lights a they vibrate from the fan. Okay. Something less obvious. Breathe....I hear the cars outside. Breathe...I hear a bird. Bring it inward...I hear my breath. More...I hear the sound of my voice in my head. In the next breath I hear my stomach gurgle. Now breathe again, and hear anything you can imagine and conjure an equal sound to any of those. Imagine the rain. Listen. Next breath...imagine the sound of your mother's voice. Next breath...imagine the sound of peace. Next breath...imagine listening to the still small voice within. What does it say? You can hear what God has to say directly to you!
Here's another exercise you can use to practice your listening skills. Turn on some music. Choose a piece or just fine one on the radio. Listen to one instrument only. You may choose the vocals and listen intently only to one voice. Follow it all the way through, paying no attention to the other voices or any instruments that there might be. Just only that one voice alone. Then play the song again, or if on the radio, just listen to the next song that plays. Now pick a different voice or an instrument, and follow it all the way through. Do this again and again, choosing a different sound to follow each time. Listen to only the sound of a background instrument, and follow it all the way through. You can do this even with songs with whichh you are very familiar, and you will hear them in a new way. This little practice is very helpful for learning to focus your attention. That's a very good skill to have.
Focusing attention and learning to shut out the world and go within is valuable in being able to hear what God is trying to say to you. Not that God is a "person" with a voice, but still, it works the same way. It is your Inner Source of Wisdom and Strength which is connected to the whole world. There is a pace ;within you where ALL answers are known. It's learning to listen for the sound of that Voice.
How do we recognize it? How do we know it is "that" Voice and not just any old voice in our head? How do we know we're not just thinking? Well, does it feel like it came from you? Is it good for everybody? All loving and kind? God is Love, this we know, so if it is anything less than loving it did not come from God, but instead from your own mind. Does it feel right in your heart? Literally...go into your heart in your mind and tune in your awareness to how it physically feels when you hear the words you think might be from God. Your heart knows if it's True. So does your gut...check in with gut in your mind. Listen to the words and see how you feel in your gut.
Listening exercises are good, though. I hear a bird now. I am going to just only listen to that bird, and not the sound of the fan, or the cars, or my stomach or anything else...just the bird. I'm going to stop typing to do it, because I don't want to hear the sound of the keys, or the sound of my voice as I type. I want my attention just on the bird....(brb)
It's amazing how good that feels! Other birds were singing, too, but I listened to only the voice of the one. Practice this as much as you can, and you will gain control of your mind.
That's what it's all about....gaining control of your mind. The spiritual part of yourself already knows what to do, but the mind...that's the tricky part. The mind has to be trained to listen to Spirit, or else it's just like an unruly child.
An unruly child will make messes and not clean them up. An unruly child will cause scenes. An unruly child will make you late. An unruly child will get in trouble, and you will be in trouble, too, if this child lives in your mind! You must learn to discipline your mind as you would an unruly chid. How is that? As with everything we are to do, it is to be done, always, with love.
Disciple involves teaching, and giving practice. It is like developing a talent, as in learning to play the piano. It takes the discipline of sitting down to the keyboard each day and training your fingers how to master the keys. It is the same as that when disciplining your mind. (...and also your children! Spanking should not be involved for children, so when disciplining yourself, give yourself a break and don't beat yourself up if it takes time for you to learn!)
These newfound listening skills will help your interpersonal relationships, too. The next time you speak with someone...the very next time...listen with all your attention to everything that they say. Notice their body language, their tone of voice, the look in their eye. Look them right in the eye as they speak. Don't just assume that you already know where this exercise is leading and therefore skip the practice part of this lesson. To know is not the same as to practice. Even the most accomplished pianist still practices. Much skill would be lost to not play for an extended per;iod of time. The fingers may become stiff, or if long enough of a time passes, the notes to the song may be forgotten, for instance. If a very long time passes, as with me and the violin, then the complete ability may become lost, or nearly so. So use it or lose it is good advice you should know.
I especially enjoy listening to the sounds of nature. Meditating in the woods is the absolute best! Not only birds, but the wind, the frogs, the crickets...all wonderful sounds to focus upon.
Another way to help train your mind to listen is to focus your attention inward and allow yourself to relax. The more relaxed you become the easier it is to hear the quiet voice of Wisdom within. Try progressive relaxation. This will also further increase your focusing skills. Start with your toes. Imagine they are relaxed. Put your attention on each and every toe, imagining that it is completely relaxed. Imagine how good it feels, and stay with that thought until your toes is in absolute bliss.
I also like to imagine how healthy it is at the same time, and also give thanks for the work that each part of my body does. Give thanks to your toes for staying in those shoes all day, for giving you balance, for allowing you to reach things, etc. Imagine them feeling goooood! Imagine every part of your body this way, imagining that each part is completely relaxed and completely healthy and well. Move up through the feet, the ankles, each part of the leg and all the way up to the very top of your head, where you imagine fingers massaging your scalp and feeling so good. Spend as long as you'd like on each spot of your body, but don't hurry. Give yourself time to enjoy!
When you are in a state of peaceful relaxation you are so much more open to Higher Mind. All of your worries just slip away and you have an open environment for Good to come in. (God is Good!)
Your mind is so receptive at this time, and so that is the basis of self-hypnosis. Self-hypnosis and meditation can be very much the same thing, witht he distinction being that with meditation there is an implied spiritual meaning...giving credit to your Higher Spiritual Self instead of just to the mind. That's okay. The mind is good, and if that's the avenue that works, God is not so jealous as all of that, so long as Love and Peace are what you seek. That is my opinion on that. I believe God is Love.
But when your body is in a state of relaxation and your mind is also relaxed, that is a wonderful time to focus on what you want as if it is already there. The Truth is that your good IS already there! It simply needs to manifest in physical form or be recognized somehow by you. Affirmations are a way of bringing this occurrence about. So speak words of encouragement, and speak to yourself in present-tense. The subconscious willl pick up on this and assume there must have been changes while it was asleep! Wake the mind up and tell it that yiou are superb!
I am healthy! I am a radiant child of God! I am filled with Wisdom and Light! Every cell in my body is healthy and vibrant! I am created in the image and likeness of God. I know what to do in all situations through the Wisdom of God, and I do it! I am guided by Love and Light. Thank you, thank you, thank you God, I'm alive!...any such words will do. Practice That's all it takes. Reprogram your mind and reprogram your life!!! The mind can do wondrous things. GOD can do wondrous things. Allow the mind to be guided by Spirit, and the body to be guided by mind. The body will resp;ond to what the mind tells it. Set your mind on a higher expression of Good.
Let the God inside of your soul be heard. Listen. Listen ad follow its urgings for the good of all. You will become more acutely aware of all the good in your life, and others will also thank you for being a better listener with them. Listen with love to others, yourself and God. Listen. The answers to any problem will come when you've ears to hear. Develop this gift of direct communication with the God of your being...the God of Love...the Source of all Wisdom and Light.
Most people who relate to the word, "God," will describe God with words such as -
Even those who do not use the word, "God," can surely see some of these same attributes in nature. All powerful...yes, Mother Nature can be when she wants to be. All loving? Well, maybe that's not the wording someone speaking in terms of science would use when describing nature, but we certainly are provided a lot on this earth...enough to sustain us since life first appeared. That would pretty much cover "benevolent," too.
The point is that in either case, why aren't we using what's been given to us to stay well? If God is all of these wonderful things, and if life on this planet is a natural occurrence, then why are we so content with so much less than is possible for us?
God is able!!!! And so are WE! We are created in the image and likeness of God!!!
We limit ourselves through our spiritual lack of insight, faith, trust and willingness to obey the Laws. What are the Laws? The Law of Spirit us Love.
We limit ourselves through improper use of the mind every time we use it to think negative thoughts which bring our inherited power down. We in fact deny our own power. We were created in the image and likeness of God! Look back to those words on the list above. Those words are what we're created in the image of, if that's what we believe God to be! The Law of the mind is to think only Good, for what we think, we create.
We limit ourselves physically through misuse of our physical bodies. We were given proper food, water, air, herbs, aromas, and everything else we need in the physical environment to sustain us, and yet we eat junk food, hardly slow down to breathe, we use synthetic drugs instead of herbs, synthetic fragrances instead of natural ones, and we drink coffee, alcohol and soda pop far more than water in this day and age. Then we wonder why we are sick! Exercise? Not in this day of remote controls! Sleep? Does anyone sleep well any more?
Even people who do not believe in "God" must admit that with or without the word, we do limit ourselves in these ways, so if you are reading, please understand that I'm going to use the word, "God."
We say we believe God is all-loving, yet so many people think prayer is about convincing God to do favors for them. That's not the true purpose of prayer. Prayer is more for us than for God. In fact, it's all for us. God has already answered our prayers by creating us in the image of the All-Powerful, All-Loving, All-Knowing, Everywhere Present, Benevolent, Almighty Giver of Life! What in the world more do we want??????
We have love in our hearts, so why can't we heal those we love? Well, we can! If they want to be healed, and believe it is possible, and take the necessary steps. You see, everyone was given free will, and if a person doesn't want to be healed, then we can't really do it for them. Sometimes it works, but that's because the part of them that does want it and does believe must have drawn us to them, because really, everyone's life is their own.
We have obligations to others, of course, but that is how the power of love is fulfilled. Do we meet our obligations with love? You can't expect more goodness in your life than you give. (Love God, others and yourself.)
What kinds of thoughts do you think regarding health? Do you believe in disease? Do you believe it has power over your life? Really? More power than the almighty, all-powerful, all-knowing power image of God that you are created in the likeness of? Think about that the next time you think about disease! It has no true power over you.
Any disease you can name has had some who have survived. There are always stories of miracles if you dig deep. The doctors don't usually tell those. They tend to tell the statistics of those who have not survived "terminal" illness. What about thsoe who didn't die? Those are the stories you need to concentrate on!! You want to be one of those statistics, so those are the ones to ask about! The mind is an extremely powerful thing!!!!!!!!! When used correctly it is more powerful than any disease.
Then there are the physical laws with which we need to become more familiar. We would be wise to examine what we believe to be true in this area (back to the mind...use it to study!)...and then ask ourselves if we are acting according to what we believe. Oftentimes we are not. For instance, most people know that certain things they do are not in the best interest of their physical health, but yet they continue the behavior regardless. Why is this? Then they tell themselves they are simply unlucky, or that disease is inherited, or that they must have been exposed to someone's virus or something like that...anything to not have to take responsibility for their own health and change they way they have chosen to live.
Choices in food, drink, medicine and all of our thoughts, words and actions are ours alone, as are the consequences of such. We need to stop blaming heredity, our neighbors and God and simply learn to live in accordance with God's natural laws. People are certainly free to choose their own lifestyle, but to expect to enjoy perfect health while living an unhealthy lifestyle is simply not going to work.
God is three parts...as are we...Spirit, Mind, Body. We have to attend to all three to love God or ourselves, either one. We have to follow the laws. When we do, we will express our true nature. It is natural for us to be well. We are created in the image and likeness of God!!!
It's a lot of responsibility, but the rewards are heaven on earth!
And really, is the responsibility really that hard to bear? God does the work. We only need to not resist or turn the other way. The way we are to follow is Love. We are to keep our mind on the Good and know it is there no matter what appearances say. We are to live Life fully and completely, in full embrace. God is Love, God is Good, God is Life.
God is Almighty. We are created in the image of God. Create the life that you want. Limits only exist in your mind where you think all is not Good. Use the eyes of Love to look for the Good in all of Life. Let thine eye be single...focus only on Good. It is there. It is in you and in every molecule of air you breathe in! God is in every cell of your being. You are created in the image of God. Relax. All we need for spiritual well-being is love, and all we need for our physical self has been provided in nature for us to freely use. Our minds are the part that give us the most trouble. Settle your mind on the Power within and without you, caressing your life with sweet bliss.
This Universe and everything in it came into existence through some kind of Power much greater than human intellect can even suppose, and it has remained in existence for eternity, no matter what happens or what is hurled at it. The dandelion always comes back and life goes on! Turn to this Power for healing Good. Not by begging and pleading. To do so creates God in our image, imagining that favor can be pleaded for. God doesn't have feelings which can be persuaded. God is already unconditional Love!
I cannot say it enough...God is Love, God is Good, God is Life. This is God's will for us. We are also made of these things...Love, Goodness and Life. This is God's will for us, to keep the Laws of Love, Goodness and Life and to thereby manifest heaven right here on this earth.

law is within my heart." (Psalm 40:8)
