"Ashes and snow is a four-part project that weaves together photographic works, a film, art installation, and a novel in letters. It is a loving exploration into the nature of animals in their natural habitat as they interact with human beings No longer shown as merely a member of the family f man, humans are seen as a member of the family of animals.
Ashes and snow is a master class with nature. Gregory Colbert has spent thirteen years filming and photgraphing elephants, whales, birds and other animals in India, Burma, Ethiopia, Sri Lanka, Kenya, Egypt, the island of Dominica, Tongo, and Antartica. Throughout history our relationship and understanding of animals has been rooted in myths and legends. Until now these narratives have been specific to cultures, regions or tribes. Ashes and snow is a bridge that crosses geographical and cultural boundries connecting modern man with the totemic animals that touch our spirit-whales, eagles and elephants to name a few"
