EVIDENCE OF DECEPTION
On March 17th, 2003, President Bush announced "Intelligence gathered by this
and other governments leaves NO DOUBT that the Iraqi regime continues to
possess and conceal some of the most lethal weapons ever devised."
(official White House Transcript)
He received a CIA report in February of 2003 which stated, "We do not
have any direct evidence that Iraq used the period since 1998 to
reconstitute its Weapons of Mass Destruction programs."
A recent report issued by the Committee on Government Reform within the House
of Representatives cited overwhelming evidence that, despite repeated
warnings from the CIA and Defense Intelligence Agency, President Bush and
his administration hyped and distorted the threat that Iraq posed.
The report enumerates 237 instances of misleading and false statements that:
11 statements falsely claimed that Iraq posted an urgent threat to the
United States
81 statements exaggerated Iraq's nuclear activities
84 statements overstated Iraq's chemical and biological weapons
capabilities
61 statements misrepresented Iraq's ties to Al Qaeda and the events of
9-11
President Bush told the world that Iraq possessed weapons of mass
destruction. Now, the chief weapons inspector has confirmed many of the
doubts outlined in intelligence reports and believes that Iraq did not
have any weapons of mass destruction or pose an imminent threat to the United States.
Finally, the President pledged full cooperation with the 9-11 commission hearings - one most important investigations in our nation's history. Yet,
he has failed to provide access to critical information from National Security Advisor Condoleeza Rice.
Thank you!
