President Obama isn’t the only one who has been successful recently! Care2 Members celebrated a lot of successes in October. Here are a few:
Insurance companies in California tried to change a long-standing consumer protection law without voters’ knowledge. Luckily, Care2 members stood up to them, and insured drivers remain protected from the unsafe car parts that threaten vehicle safety and value.
The government of Costa Rica recently enacted a law that bans all elements of shark finning within its borders, including the transportation and importation of fins from other countries. Hopefully they will act as an example for the rest of the world!
The UK is putting its controversial plans to kill thousands of wild badgers on hold until summer 2013. Members of Parliament voted for the government to implement more sustainable and humane solutions. Hopefully, this decision will make it harder for the government to justify these culls in the future.
The “Running of the Bulls” in Toronto was canceled after protests from animal rights activists. Officials planned to force the 2,000-pound animals to run through the streets surrounded on either side by handlers on horseback and a screaming crowd. Luckily, the bulls received a last minute reprieve.
Thank you for all you’ve done!
