20 Seconds to Save a Child’s Life

Every 20 seconds… a child perishes from disease caused by unsanitary drinking water and lack of proper sanitation.

It is an unimaginable, yet preventable horror. Around the world 884 million people do not have access to safe drinking water. Forty percent of these people live in Africa.

It is within your power to help. Without putting up a single penny, you can give the gift of one day of safe drinking water for a child, or provide life-saving oral dehydration salts. By taking action on Care2, you can earn Butterfly Credits that can be easily redeemed as gifts for causes you care about, gifts that make the world a better place.

There are 12 ways to earn credits by taking action on Care2, and many choices about how to turn your credits into gifts for amazing causes. It’s easy, and together, we can make a difference!

Every 20 seconds… another needless tragedy.

It comes from the tap; it comes in a bottle; it is inexpensive and readily available — to most of us. Safe drinking water is something we so easily take for granted, but far too many lives are endangered for lack of this most basic requirement of life.

Bad drinking water and inadequate sanitation can cause life-threatening diarrhea. Without early intervention, children can very quickly die from acute dehydration.

Every 20 seconds… another family grieves.

Population Services International (PSI) is a global health organization offering programs targeting malaria, child survival, HIV/AIDS, and reproductive health. PSI provides life-saving products, clinical services and behavior change communications that empower the world’s most vulnerable populations to lead healthier lives. PSI educates people about how to purify drinking water in the home, as well as improved hygiene, giving families the tools and skills they need to keep their children healthy.

You can help by earning Butterfly Credits and contributing to a worthy cause. It takes about 20 seconds to redeem your credits.

  • Take 20 seconds and redeem 200 Butterfly Credits: give the gift of one day of safe drinking water for a child, allowing a family to treat their water at home.
  • Take 20 seconds and redeem 1,000 Butterfly Credits: give the gift of life-saving oral rehydration salts. Oral rehydration salts (ORS) are a simple combination of salt, sugar and clean water, but they save children from the ravages of diarrheal diseases. To the parents of these children, it is nothing short of a miracle.

Every 20 seconds… somewhere in the world, a child dies from disease caused by unsanitary drinking water and lack of sanitation. Won’t you join me in earning Butterfly Credits and redeeming them to help save a child? Let’s become part of the solution.

It takes only about 20 seconds to redeem your Butterfly Credits… 20 seconds to save a life.

safe? many people don't realize the dangers of sodium fluoride and its permanent effects on the brain. not to mention the recent finding of countless pharmaceuticals in many of the larger u.s. cities. safe really depends on ones point of view or in comparison to...I have an active petition calling for the outlawing of sodium fluoride. i do agree that we need to help get fresh clean drinking water to any nation that needs it

Isn't it crazy that some of us still complain about the TASTE of our water? Not weather it's safe for drinking, but that it tastes bad..Hmmm

Us in the developed world often forget safe drinking water and proper sanitation are vital factors for people's survival as they seem something that everyone always has where we live. Thank you so much Care2 for helping us help others in less fortunate situations.
