6 Horrendous Things People Are Saying About the Aurora Massacre (Slideshow)

  • 2 of 7

1. Blame the Victims For the Shooting

Barack Obama visiting victims of 2012 Aurora shooting

Former Arizona Senate President Russell Pearce, R-Mesa, has criticized the victims of the shooting for failing to stop the attack.

This seems equivalent to saying that a woman “deserved” to be raped because of her clothing and appearance.

As Care2 blogger Jeff Fecke wrote,

Pearce referenced the September 11, 2001 downing of United Flight 93, a hijacked plane which was brought down due to the actions of passengers, at the cost of their lives. “Where were the men of flight 93????” Pearce asked. “Someone should have stopped this man. Someone could have stopped this man. Lives were lost because of a bad man, not because he had a weapon, but because no one was prepared to stop it.”

Pearce added, “All that was needed is one Courages/Brave [sic] man prepared mentally or otherwise to stop this it could have been done.”

The assailant, James Holmes, used tear gas to disable and disorient his victims, and was wearing full body armor during his attack.

Besides the victims and survivors themselves, Pearce has someone, or rather something, else to blame for the attacks.

The right to own and bear arms is the difference between freedom and slavery.
History proves this repeatedly.
Never ever allow armed people to disarm you.
The problem is not weapons, the problem is what some people do with them.
The laws for dealing with such abuses are quite adequate.
Traditionally in England citizens were allowed weapons but the police were not.
They had no problems until the police were issued weapons.
In Switzerland there are military style weapons in every house as part of their civil defence strategy that saved them from invasion throughout two world wars.
Govts and their officials are easily corrupted and therefore should be kept toothless while citizens have a right to defend their homes and families not only against foreign threats but against domestic threats also... for instance when corrupt and criminal authorities commit acts of violence against the citizens.
Of course corrupt and criminal authorities do not like this. Bullies and thugs never do like it when their potential victims can protect themselves and hold the corrupt criminals accountable.
What i want to know is when you are going to hold the torturerers and mass murderers in your govt accountable for their crimes against humanity?
Mass murder of civilians in non war zones by signature drone strike IS NOT OK.
Torture as official govt policy IS NOT OK.
If you support such evil you are a criminal guilty of being an accessory after the fact.
That is the law.

I am a proud American who has guns in my home. I am not shooting up anything or anyone. I will defend what is mine (home, kids, cats, myself especially!!! ) if I am attacked by someone. and I know how to shoot...don't like it and did not want to learn but felt it was necessary due to the culture pervading my side of town.

Pearce is an idiot or a crackpot or both. No further attention should be given to PEARCE, and attention given to the "points" (???) re raided only in passing, dismissively.

I guess that there will always be someone who wants to use a dreadful event to make their own point, it is a shame but it happens. I am left wondering if those who have suffered, including their families, are getting a bit forgotten.

In Russia some people at power want to legalize guns. It's horrible!
