Activist Spotlight: CIA Program Dangerous to Civilians?
The CIA’s (Central Intelligence Agency) use of “targeted killings” is alarming to some who feel the program could be more dangerous than what the CIA is letting on. These targeted killings involve sending out drones — specialized, unmanned planes — to kill members of Al Qaeda and other terrorists. Although this drone program has been around for quite a few years now, many did not know about it until recently.
These targeted killings are intended to strike the alleged locations of many of the September 11 attackers — so far they’ve been occurring in Pakistan, as well as other countries believed to have much less involvement in the attacks, such as Yemen and Somalia.
Those familiar with the project found some flaws, which they feel need to be addressed due to safety issues. Among these concerns, many feel it would be best for the safety of all innocent civilians if the CIA better informed the public about their operations and involvement with the project. Already, these drones have killed 23 innocent civilians throughout the duration of the project.
With little information, many have great concerns about the project, as it has the potential to harm many people. Perhaps it would be helpful if the CIA worked with others, such as the U.S. military, in order to better manage the project.
If you feel the CIA needs to come clean about the drone project for the safety of others, urge them to do so by signing this petition.
