Angle Calls Reid Illegal Immigrant’s Best Friend

55 comments Angle Calls Reid Illegal Immigrant’s Best Friend

When you are a Republican candidate who’s campaign has sort of gone off the rails, how do you get yourself back on track.

Why you go to the tried and true tactic of bringing up immigration.

So goes Sharron Angle, Nevada’s Republican Senate candidate.  In a tight race against Sen. Harry Reid, Angle has found that the more voters get to know her, the less they like her, with even her own party wishing they had picked a different candidate.  To regather her base, Angle has launched a new ad, where she calls Reid “the best friend an illegal immigrant ever had.”

Via CBS news:

On the heels of Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid’s announcement that he wants to put up an immigration reform measure up for a vote next week, his Republican opponent Sharron Angle is out with a new ad calling Reid “the best friend an illegal alien ever had.”

The harsh ad says Reid’s policies are “putting Americans’ safety and jobs at risk,” highlighting the unique confluence of economic and immigration problems in Nevada. The state is struggling with the nation’s highest unemployment rate, which stands at 14.3 percent, as well as the highest share of undocumented workers in the nation, according to the Pew Hispanic Center.

More than half of Nevadans think undocumented immigrants are taking jobs away from Nevada citizens, a recent Las Vegas Review-Journal poll showed.

Of course, the Reid response is that the entire ad is a bunch of lies.  From the Las Vegas Review Journal:

…Reid notes that he supported adding 400 miles to a fence along the U.S.-Mexico border as well as 4,000 border agents and drones to detect illegal border crossers.

The ad also says Reid “never has and never will support Social Security for illegal immigrants. He wrote the bill opposing it.”

Actually, it wasn’t a bill. But Reid sponsored Senate Resolution 551 in the summer of 2006 “expressing the sense of the Senate that illegal immigrants should not receive Social Security benefits and that this prohibition should be strictly enforced.”

But it’s not the well-produced, well-thought out campaign ploys that get Angle into trouble, it’s always been her more off the cuff remarks.  And it’s happened once more, as she was once again caught stating the need to “take out” Harry Reid.  Calling it a slip of the tongue, Angle said “I really have had to find a whole new vocabulary since the primaries.” But Huffington Post reminds us that this isn’t the first time she’s used the phrase, which she’s previously linked with gun rights.

The rhetoric was interesting, however, since it was not the first time Angle found herself in hot water over almost identical comments. In June, she went on a conservative talk radio show and floated the possibility of armed rebellion to “take Harry Reid out“:

ANGLE: You know, our Founding Fathers, they put that Second Amendment in there for a good reason and that was for the people to protect themselves against a tyrannical government. And in fact Thomas Jefferson said it’s good for a country to have a revolution every 20 years.

I hope that’s not where we’re going, but, you know, if this Congress keeps going the way it is, people are really looking toward those Second Amendment remedies and saying my goodness what can we do to turn this country around? I’ll tell you the first thing we need to do is take Harry Reid out.

Angle and Reid are still neck and neck when it comes to polling of likely voters, with Reid’s two percent lead being within the margin of error.  But some are paying closer attention to the breakdown of registered voters, and noting that when that is taken into consideration, Reid actually has an eight point lead.

It all depends on who shows up on election day.

I am totally against Harry Reid. I live in Nevada so you better believe he does NOT get my vote. I dont' like all the nasty tatic going on I don't like all the illegals here and yes,why can they NOT find them ?? When there are millions of them here?? You tell me.

This is what's running for a seat in our government? Someone who will use any tactic and any idiocy to win? I'm becoming more and more frightened for the future of this country as I see less and less respect for intelligence, common sense and responsibility. Is this because too many people buy those horrid magazines at the supermarket checkout? Ya think??

The Democrats regained control of congress because of Republican tyranny. Now the pendulum is swinging, the Democrats are the tyrants and the Republicans will have a huge win in November.

It's a damn shame that this country can't settle somewhere in the middle and actually make some progress.

I can't decide which one of these lunatics the tea baggers are running is worse. Pretty close between the hypocrite Angle and O'Donnell though. Angle is against public employees but her husband is living off their retirement and she IS one currently. O'Donnell is just crooked. Sigh.

First off let me say I support Harry Reid's position and find Sharron Angle's approach distasteful.

As one who is from Canada I want to say I agree America needs to know who is in the country legally. Every sovereign nation has a right to protect it's citizens. You don't want drug dealers or other undesirables in your country to make things worse and be a burden on law abiding citizens. I also see the problem of poor people coming in under the radar working in jobs that don't pay much for people who run companies in America who look the other way to make a profit. As a result of their low wages and no documentation the illegal can't afford to pay for health care and have drained the money out of hospitals in California some hospitals have even gone bankrupt. Some illegals say I pay taxes as if that means they are upstanding citizens but who are you? We don't know who you are. You may be a sleeper in some terrorist group. Oh nonsense don't be paranoid well why don't you come clean and tell us about yourself and file like everyone else and wait like everyone else. Do you have something to hide.

I see the problem of illegal aliens from a different angle. As a person who would like to LEGALLY immigrate to your country I see the myriad of hoops I have to go through to file legally. The cost of filling out all those forms not to mention the long waiting (some who I have talked too have had to wait seven years) as a reason why so many people come in illegally who would otherw

Here is what Harry Reid is going to try to force through tomorrow:

So yeah, he IS the best friend that Illegals have!

We need to KILL THIS BILL!!!

I wouldn't vote for Sharon Angle if she were running for dogcatcher. Sarah Palin clones hold no charm for me.

But neither do I support granting automatic citizenship to the millions of illegals already living in this country. This isn't about ethnicity or language or religion. It never has been. It's about the law, the need to keep legal immigration open to those who have no other hope, and the very real need to be able to examine the backgrounds and medical histories of those who come into this country to live. That so many millions of the illegals do come from just beyond our southern border does suggest that it's also about proximity, though.

Proximity to this country does not, and should not, mean that coming here is a right. Why should mere proximity mean that one nationality gets to jump the line over people who have been waiting for years in other countries? Over political refugees? Over women and children fleeing oppression and sexual abuse and war?

No other country in the world simply maintains open borders and allows non-citizens to come and go as they please. By what rational school of thought should be expected to? It doesn't seem either fair or just that the willingness to break the law, violate the rules, and sneak in should give ANYONE a free pass to stay, to be handed citizenship on a silver salver, and to automatically gain free access to a system of benefits into which they have yet to pay. If citizenship is worth the effort, do it right.

The DREAM act is the worst thing that could happen to persons born in America as citizens, it legalized 90 million illegals and gives them the same benefits that we've earned by working 30+ years.

If he's going to give away the government, he sure isn't the citizens friend.
