Loading...As Clinton Cuts Loose, More 2016 Speculation Arises
It’s true. Former First Lady, former New York Senator, former presidential candidate and current Secretary of the State Hillary Clinton is becoming cool. Fresh off her brief stint as viral tumblr fodder (and man, I miss “texts from Hillary” already!), the leading women in American politics is now seen cutting loose, dancing and drinking in Colombia as she took part in the Summit of Americas this weekend. Although the usual suspects are accusing her of not being a representation of dignity and diplomacy because of a few beers and a rumba, others are digging the hipper Hillary. “Despite possible backlash from her night out, social-media users seem to dig this cerveza-sipping Secretary of State,” Time reports.
Clinton’s always had a tough as nails image, but this new version, that seems to be half super-heroine and half secret agent appears to be working with the crowd, perhaps because it is so removed from overt politics. And maybe because it is so a-political, it is setting up a perfect base for a 2016 presidential run. You know, if she wants to. Former adviser Paul Begala writes, “Hillary benefits from the fact that the job is designed to be above the political fray; she hasn’t had to comment on, say, gay marriage or the Trayvon Martin case. It’s a paradox Hillary must understand: the less political you are, the more popular a politician you become; the less you yearn for the presidency, the more the country yearns for you.”
In fact, if she can manage to keep “not running,” she’s liable to be the most popular candidate ever.

Steve R.--After 12 years of Reagan-Bush, this country was in the worst deficit we had ever had at that point. Bill Clinton became president, and look what happened. After eight years, this country had a surplus. What do you know? Then Bush number two took over. In about a year, the surplus was gone--wasted on tax cuts for the rich and two unfunded wars, at least one of which was illegal and waged for Bush's personal agenda. Do I want another Clinton in the White House? You bet your sweet bippie I do.
