Congresswoman Michele Bachmann may be down, but don’t count her out yet. Sure, she’s trailing significantly in every poll out there. But she announced the “mother” of all endorsements today — conservative icon Phyllis Schlafly.
According to the Des Moines Register, Schlafly urges Iowans to throw their support behind Bachmann, the only real socially conservative politician in the race. “Michele has the courage to be a leader among her peers. She is a real champion in speaking up for values we care about. Michele is a woman of faith and the mother of a beautiful family. She has a 100 percent pro-life record and is a strong supporter of traditional marriage….If I were an Iowa voter, I would be making plans right now to cast my vote for Michele Bachmann for president on January 3. I hope you will take advantage of this golden opportunity to support a candidate we can all be proud of.”
Bachmann has been fighting for social conservative support in Iowa, making cases against both Mitt Romney and Newt Gingrich as not being solid enough on abortion or gay marriage. But she’s still having a hard time gaining traction, especially as she is splitting evangelical endorsements with former Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum. Santorum recently boasted the endorsement of Iowa pastor Cary Gordon, a key figure in the move to defeat the supreme court justices who ruled that gay marriage should be allowed in the state.
Still, both Santorum and Bachmann are struggling, even in national polls. And the departure of Herman Cain hasn’t helped either candidate much. In the first poll to be released since Cain put his campaign on hold, Newt Gingrich is now up to 37 percent support, with Mitt Romney following at 23 percent. Bachmann only gets 6 percent, one point lower than Congressman Ron Paul, and Santorum didn’t even make the list. And in a new poll released by Gallup, only Romney and Gingrich are viewed as “acceptable” candidates by a majority of Americans.

+ add your ownphyllis schlafly: lol. i remember her.
Carlene V.. your pic is so hard to see. Are those
Schipperkes?? Anyway, topic is Bachman. I'd call her a bubble head but that would be rude to bubbleheads. Only way she will get nominated is if all the others drop dead from a mysterious plague.
Just means that Phyllis Schlafly is as crazy as Bachmann.
Bachmann doesn't have a chance of winning the Republican nomination.
Such a waste of money for advertising her campaign!
Will this endorsement mean Mindless Michele will win the Oval Office? Not in this lifetime. Michele needs to go away, back to her husbands medical clinic and cure those dreadful gay people. The whole thing is just ridiculous.
Why is anyone surprised that Phyllo Shitfly would endorse a nutjob like Bachman...and Schlafly is still alive? Someone was against women making something of themselves and endorsing a life of subservancy...what a crazy lady she was in her day!
Like many other I am surprised the old bag Schlafly is still hanging around.
down with the non interesting woman!!!!!
Wow! Bachmann is endorsed by Phyllis Schafly, well I guess Bachmann will be our next President. Case closed. I hope she chooses Phyllis for her vice president.
Lawrence E,
Voting for any candidate for political office should ALWAYS be done for the most qualified candidate running for that office, not because a candidate is a specific race or genderor religion. I'd vote for a woman for President if a qualified woman was running. Bachmann is definitely NOT qualified.
