Oh, Bill Nye. I rushed home every day after school so I could watch his show on my local PBS station before dinner. He exposed me to everything from the vastness of the universe to the mind-bogglingly tiny scale of atoms. It was even the Science Guy who showed me the difference between science and pseudoscience. Plus, bow ties. I honestly don’t think I would be the person I am without him. All I’m saying is, my nerd crush runs deep.
Bill Nye is once again proving himself to be a total BAMF. Here is a video of Bill telling it like it is. Anti-science thinking is dangerous and kids should be able to study scientific subjects without the religious baggage of their parents. Word.

Nerds rule!
The stories in the bible should be looked at as colorful metaphors, and also respected and acknowledged as how people saw the world ages ago. It was a theory, an explanation, for people who couldn't explain how things worked in the world, the same way the Greeks created a mythology that explained why it rained. Now it is modern science that explains the world, and universe, around us and will be even more advanced and explain more in the future. Creationists are living in a past that created a story to explain the uncertainty of life.
Oh, and Bill Nye rocks! :D
Dorothy N. - He is Awesome. I grew up watching him.
Don't think I'd ever heard of Bill Nye before - things are getting pretty bad when someone expressing basic common sense sends fills you with relief...
But he is a breath of oxygenated air, isn't he?
and then there is that talking snake....
its probably best to see all creation stories as colorful metaphors of their own cultural moorings.
I have no problem with Creationism. But, I have a wider view than the Christians that think that God created existence only 6000 years ago. Look at Genesis. this is a great explanation for the Big Bang Theory. It has to be simple. It was an explanation of how God brought existence into being that was aimed at a simple minded peoples. People who had lost the concept of great expanses of time. So a day was used. Oh. A Creator that can bring this vast universe into being would not get tired and have to rest on the 7th day. Religion with out science is superstition.
So true. So reasonable.
Beautifully said.
Any way to forward this to my friends (by email).
There should be "chat rooms" where people who "need" to carry on an argumentative discourse on a thread can do so without clogging up the main discussion on topics.
