Boehner to Obama — Cut Up The Credit Cards

266 comments Boehner to Obama — Cut Up The Credit Cards

Newly elected Speaker of the House John Boehner is starting to sound a little less like a politician and a little more like a lecturing father in his latest remarks to the White House regarding spending.  Taking on a paternalistic (and patronizing) tone, the Speaker chides the President that he must begin “cutting up the credit cards,” and only spend on what we can assume are Republican approved budget items.

Via Politico:

BOEHNER TO CONFRONT OBAMA ON SPENDING – Speaker Boehner’s office released these excerpts from his remarks to the House GOP Retreat in Baltimore yesterday: “Washington has an illness. The illness is spending. The debt is a symptom of that illness. The American people want it cured. President Obama and Congressional Democrats have been on a job-destroying spending spree that has left us with nothing but historic unemployment and the most debt in U.S. history. If they want us to help pay their bills, they are going to have to start cutting up their credit cards. ‘Cutting up the credit cards’ means cutting spending – and implementing spending reforms to ensure we keep on cutting. We know the American people will settle for nothing less. I want to thank Jeb Hensarling and the staff of the House Republican Conference for a very successful and inspiring retreat.”

Of course, one of the biggest pieces of spending passed recently would be the extension of tax cuts for millionaires, which Boehner not only supported but whole-heartedly lobbied for himself.

"I try to ignore the old tired words of Boehner and other repubs. They have been patronizing towards President Barack Hussein Obama since this intelligent man was elected to be our president, to try to right this ship of state that they in past 30 years have tried to sink. They have been racist and impertinent, and he has kept his temper when other lessors would have exploded. The president is measure and reasonable beyond compare. Thank you, my president."

The anointed one is little more than a rabble-rouser with a good paying job. Past 30 years? The Democrats were in charge for 22 of those! "They have been racist and impertinent," Sorry but so have the Democrats! "he has kept his temper when other lessors would have exploded." Let me see, in a matter of hours he announces on national TV that specific cops acted stupidly! But in world affairs he takes days to think of what to say!
Measure? Yes, but that does not describe which direction the comparison is. Reasonable? In his own mind, sure!

"I'll have a look at those numbes. Interesting! Thanks!

Neither party has anything to be proud of, they both suck.

Since that question I went and ran the numbers. Based on the control of the House, where spending bills originate. The Dems are responsible for $9.7 trillion GOP $3.8 trillion.

"Cut all spending. Cancel the war. Then we can talk about free health care "

There is no free lunch applies to health care as well!

"How quickly Boehner forgets that it was 8 years of Republican-controlled government that got us into this financial disaster."
First of all the Republicans did not have 8 yrs! And the mess did not occur until after the Dems had the gavels.
"When Bush took office, there was a substantial surplus."
Only if youo consider something between 11 & 14% "substantial"?
"Now Obama is trying to clean up the mess, a thankless task akin to following behind an elephant with only a dustpan and a broom."
Clean up is a matter of belief not fact. The difference between income vs spending for 2010 is the Dems have spent about 71% more than they took in. How is that the least bit responsible??
"Boehner, with his equally fake tan and tears, is a perfect example of the Peter Principle--better he had remained a janitor!"
But of course there can be no doubt that the current resident of the White house has not already well exceeded his "Peter Principle" point? Or Pelosi? No to say so must be some kind of hate. Which makes no sense at all. Going from a community organizer to President in a matter of something like 5 years does not show a lack of preparation for the job! Think about that! At best he is trying to treat the nation as a community to organize.

"Claudia, which promise did he break about getting us out of a war?"

Broken promises?

"How quickly we forget the big-war-Republican-spending machine started all this in the first place."

Started what!

"want pensioners and the working poor to pay off the deficit."

It is not the responsibility of the people to pay off the deficit! It is the responsibility of Congress to not create a deficit in the first place!

"It's not surprising that the GOP tries to deny and forget that George W. and Republican policies put the US on the path to ruin. What amazes me is that the American public/voters fall for the GOP bulls**t. The GOP give the mega rich tax breaks, then want pensioners and the working poor to pay off the deficit. Until voters tackle their A.D.D. they can't tackle their gov't."

Talk about revisionist history!
