Case Dismissed Against Women Accused of “Unlawful Abortion”

Jennie McCormack, the Idaho mother of three who was accused of having an “unlawful abortion,” has had her case dismissed by a local judge due to “lack of corroborating evidence.”

McCormick allegedly had her sister purchase drugs off of the internet that would induce a miscarriage, then took them in an attempt to self-abort because she could not afford to raise another baby, or afford the amount it would take to visit a doctor and get a professional abortion. She was later turned in to the police by the sister of one of her friends, who claimed “…I felt that if somebody didn’t speak up for this baby, who would? It doesn’t have a voice anymore.”

McCormick said she believe that the fetus, which she wrapped and hid in a box at home, was approximately 14 weeks old, however, medical examiners believed it to be between five or six months gestation.  It is currently illegal in the state of Idaho to perform an abortion on a fetus after 20 weeks.

1 month along or 8 months along this mother was faced with the worst possible position you can face in life, the choosing between your children. Its easy to say their is help and some adoptive faimly will do it for you but that is not correct even thought it sound nice, different state laws regulate what a woman can be re-reimbursed for or given payment for when they are going to adopt a pregnancy out. And supporting an entire family us usually not one of them. I know this because I did the same thing with a wanted pregnancy, and it is horrifying i will never be able to forgive myself for it. But i did do the right thing at 5 months along I chose my existing family when the financial situation took a dramatic turn. I was left with the choice of working and keeping a small 1 bedroom cheep roof over my kids heads or going on bed rest and loosing that roof. Welfare doesn't pay the bills, even when their are no extras. I will never be in that situation again.

hmmm sad, sad story. However, I agree with Kate R. you can find childless families everywhere willing to pay for all expenses and adopt the child. 5-6 months along is way too late.

I believe that the choice to have an abortion is the mother's choice, and the mother's choice only. Clearly the only people who choose to have abortions are those who aren't fit to raise children. It's better to have an abortion when the child is not yet living than to raise a child in an unhealthy environment. Everybody needs to lay off this woman. It was her choice, and she has obviously faced the consequences.

Laurita, the "choice" comes BEFORE sex, not after. If you take the responsibility associated with having sex, you need to take the responsibility associated with its consequences. If you do not feel able to care for a/another child, there are many people who would lovingly adopt and raise a child given life rather than being destroyed. Abortion is the convenient way to solve a "problem."

My grandmother (RIP) was born in 1896. She survived the quake in San Francisco, survived losing a father and having her mother go insane. She survived living with relatives and having to work early in life as a teen. She survived having MANY illegal abortions because she and her husband DID NOT want to bring children into a world where they had to suffer like they both did. All her abortions were back street, with a coat hanger or whatever. She nearly died with one of them. She was a decent person, no drugs drinking or other illegal activity. Her husband did not want to use a condom and other birth control methods were not available. It's because of this sad real history that abortion was made LEGAL and AVAILABLE to all!!! Now things are sad.

This is just in the line of where we're heading. The repukes and teabags want to take away the right to chose and pregnant women are therefore forced to either seek out some nasty quack or do it themselves. The healthrisks involved are high and it shouldn't be a woman's first chioce to get a kit on the Internet. She should be able to have her pregnancy terminated by a medical professional.

It should be no one else's business!

Oh how "they" beat the drum for the unborn but when that child is born the GOP do not want to support said child. Outcry of right to life is stupid! What life? The mother? The child? Children should be born into families who want them, care for them in every instance.Be that family Gay,straight, married, or unmarried,Christian, Islamic, Native, etc.if stable it be OK.
