Kentucky Minister Arrested After Trying To Marry His Same-Sex Partner

Kentucky Minister Arrested After Trying To Marry His Same-Sex Partner

Written by Rebecca Leber

A Kentucky Baptist minister protested on behalf of same-sex marriage by refusing to leave the county clerk’s office until he and his partner received a marriage license. Rev. Maurice “Bojangles” Blanchard and Dominique James walked in — already knowing they would be refused — and were later arrested when the office closed. Blanchard said the sit-in showed they would not be “silent accomplices to our own discrimination.”

In an interview with the Louisville Courier-Journal, Blanchard pointed out that religious leaders stand behind his right to marriage:

We’re here today to give nonviolence witness and let folks know that even people of faith, most definitely people of faith are going to stand up to and say this is wrong [...] We anticipate being denied and upon that denial we are going to sit down and not be moved and not leave as a sign of a method of nonviolent resistance. Because we feel if we do not resist we’re silent accomplices to our own discrimination.

Watch the interview and their arrest:

Same-sex couples have sought to expose discrimination in Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee, South Carolina, North Carolina, and Virginia by applying for marriage licenses, only to be denied because of state law. Polls show that most Americans endorse marriage equality, while the movement has strong backing from the religious community.

Emmanuel, what thanksgiving? Can't you see that animals are living creatures, capable of suffering? I wish some day you would be eaten by a group of cannibals claiming that eating human meat is the ultimate thanksgiving to their deity. Unfortunately, such tribes probaby don't exist any more.

I was raised by parents (born in 1918 and 1919) who taught me that God is Love, period. I have a seriously difficult time imagining the Higher Power caring who we choose to care for, to love,or to whom we commit ourselves.

Thus the whole bible is the word of God, thus also this one:

I am distressed for thee, my brother Jonathan: very pleasant hast thou been unto me: thy love to me was wonderful, passing the love of women.

Or even more important to Thimothy

Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron; Forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from meats, which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving of them which believe and know the truth. For every creature of God is good, and nothing to be refused, if it be received with thanksgiving: I hope you thanks God for your partner but i fear that it is always less thank than from those people forbid to marry what Paul calls against the Christian faith.

Thus a few obsolete and vague phrases about bisexuality against literaly it is depart of the faith to forbid marriage. The word of God, you said, but i supose only when it is like your hate against the good things created by God.

Btw, Bradford S. When your imaginary friend supposedly walk the Earth, there were no bible. That bunch of fairytales where put together long after. And, has been modified, parts deleted, misinterpreted, mistranslated, etc, etc, etc. So, which bible are you referring to? King James? The 1917 version? The one of today? I've read the 1917 version from page 1 to the last page when I was about 13 or so. I was kind of weird in those days. Read a lot of stuff. Hindu and buddist and jewish stuff too. Then made my mind up to ditch it all.

Hey, Bradford S. May I have a say on this topic or are this posting site only for you?
I'm not into religion. I'm a heathen and proud to be. Usually when I read about christians here on Care2 it's because they spew hate or depict themselves as better than the rest of us. I rarely give them any credit. But, with two people like the Rev. Blanchard and his partner Mr. James that makes a non-violent, civil rights protest inline with my views, I can only say: Bravo! You're both the real deal. You act as you preach and you have many, many people standing by you! Keep it up and we will win!

Emmanuel, You made a lot of mistakes there, but at least you're reading what GOD said & trying to understand.

Jesus did not say anything about homosexuals directly. To do that & all the other topics in the Bible he would have had to say again the whole Bible.

What he DID say in many places was that He (Jesus) and his father (GOD the Father) "are one" and in John 14:9 "he who hath seen me hath seen the Father". So Jesus and GOD the Father agree on everything.

Jesus also said in Matt 4:4 and Luke 4:4 that we are are to live according to every word of GOD, that means the whole Bible, because the whole Bible is the Word Of GOD.

Jesus didn't have to say all those other things again about homosexualiy etc. that GOD had already said in the Old Testament and later in the New Testament (Romans ch 1, 1st Corinthians ch 6 verses 90 & 10, 1st Timothy ch1 vs 10& Jude ch 1 vs 7).

Some things Jesus added to or were changed for believers in the New Testament, such as adultery, when The Lord Jesus repeated what GOD had already said "thou shalt not commit adultery" but added to it (which only He is allowed to do, because He is also GOD) and said in Matthew chapter 5 verse 28 that if a married person even LOOKED at another person "to lust after them" they're already guilty of adultey in their heart.

It's good that you want to learn these things Emmanuel. A very good place to start learning about these things is in a Bible believing Church, where you can al

Carla V. you are the others holding your position are the ones "braying out a lot of hollow nonsense". You're basically clueless.

I don't know what church you went to, or what they taught you, but you should have gone directly to the source & checked if what they said was true.

Here's a couple of relevant quotes that Jesus REALLY said:

To the woman caught in adultery in John 8:11 "go and sin no more".

In John 5:14 he told a man "sin no more lest a worse thing happen to you".

He did NOT pat them on the head & say everything was o.k.

Jesus also said in Luke 12:27 that the servant who knew his master's will & did it not (like the Baptist minister i he article) "shall be beaten with MANY stripes".

If you don't believe me, I suggest that you look it up & educate thyself, & stop declaring things that you know little or nothing about.

And where in the complete bible said Jesus some word about homosex or some related thing? I never heard or see one litle word about it even not something it could be. He didn't even speak clearly against adultery, He only said nobody have sex in heaven and rich men go to hell, and who uses weapons should destroy by it. It is lying (surly heavly forbidden by Jesus) and condeming your brother (severe crime for Jesus). Strange, in name of Jesus they said and do the things he don"t like and act against the things he never spoke about. And there was a lot of homosexuality in those days and quite less greed of men....

Dale O. you're as wrong as can be.

My opinion is also GOD's opinion & that's why it is what it is.

I don't know what "god" you're talking about but I'm refering to the GOD of the Bible, the Father of the Lord Jesus Christ who said that the things "gays" do are not only sinful but detestable ("abomintion") to Him.

The Lord Jesus, whom you looney liberals love to misquote & take out of context, said in both Matt 4:4 & Luke 4:4 that we're not to live by bread alone but by every word of God.

That means the WHOLE Bible, not just the parts you like or that you think support your position on an issue.

You people's ignorance is the result of 2 -3 generations of children with the Bible removed from the public schools.

You think you know about GOD & Jesus based on something you heard from your wicked, worldly friends, rather than searching it out at the source.
