Wisconsin Lawmaker Thinks Women Are Better Off Beaten Than Divorced

Wisconsin Lawmaker Thinks Women Are Better Off Beaten Than Divorced

I’ve had people tell me that using the phrase “war on women” is an exaggeration.  After all, they argue, women aren’t in any sort of physical danger.  Yes, politicians may be trying to force them into a role — the mother, the wife, the stay at home caregiver — that they may not entirely want, but no one is trying to literally hurt them.

Wrong.

Meet Wisconsin Rep. Don Pridemore. He’s best known for his avid support of Wisconsin’s puppy mills, but he is the co-sponsor of the bill that declares single mothers are a cause of child abuse.  Pridemore apparently is positioning himself as an expert on abuse, since he also has some very helpful advice for women who are victims of domestic violence.

Don’t leave him, just try to remember what you loved about him in the first place.

“Representative Don Pridemore, told TODAY’S TMJ4 he thinks even in abusive relationships, there are other options than divorce. ‘If they can refind those reasons and get back to why they got married in the first place it might help,’ said Representative Don Pridemore.”

And without even a trace of irony, he also claims that the reason women can’t single parent — one of the reasons he supports the bill — is because children will “go astray” since the father is usually the “disciplinarian.”

So to clarify, single parent homes run by mothers cause child abuse, but if there is spousal abuse in a two parent home the wife should stay with her husband, especially since he is needed because he is obviously the disciplinarian.

Let him beat you, let him beat your children, whatever it goes on in a house is just fine as long as you stay married.

Yes, there really is a war on women.

Anyone reading this who is need of help in a domestic violence. Go to your local police department for help filing for a restraining order and formal charges. Bring basic biographical info with you about the abuser if you can, it streamlines the process. See this for example of TRO form: http://www.weinbergerlawgroup.com/Domestic-Violence/Help-How-To-DV-Restraining-Order-Process.html

When I happen upon stories like this, that publicize such backwards, and just extraordinarily.... odd nonsense coming from Americas representative leaders, I find myself pondering over the thoughts that to reach the high levels in career, and social stratta, these people must have had years of higher-level education and training... Right?
I wonder how it is that so many people come out of backgrounds of extensive opportunity and scholarly aptitude, and yet wind up arranging their thoughts in such substanard, ignorant, contradictory ways???
It's so scary and.... just, well strange!

It figures he's a republican. He probably figures that since he has a penis, that he's entitled to own his wife and kids as property rather than family. Look at him... He's probably abusive himself.

Better beaten than divorced, this is the neo-con righy wing Repugliscum mantra,

1:55AM PDT on Apr 3, 2012

When a husband is beating his wife he isn't likely going to stop. Whether you can find what you loved about him in the beginning isn't going to stop his beatings. Men that beat their wives are sick people. So she spends 3 months trying to rekindle her love and he beats her again anyway.
Unless you put both people in serious counseling its won't fix a thing. And the chances are it will happen again. The statistics prove this simply doesn't work. NO ONE likes divorce….especially the kids who go through it. But the kids are better off than watching their mother get the shit kicked out of her. Child abuse is not caused by one parent families. It is caused by bad parents.
