Clay Aiken Speaks Out Against NC Gay Marriage Ban (VIDEO)

Singer Clay Aiken has spoken out against North Carolina’s Amendment 1 that aims to codify the state’s existing ban on same-sex marriage and write discrimination into the state’s Constitution.

In the video below Aiken, speaking as a resident of North Carolina for the group Protecting All North Carolina Families, says why he believes Amendment 1 will hurt all North Carolina families:

In recent weeks gubernatorial candidate Bob Etheridge has come out against Amendment 1, while Lt Gov. Walter Dalton has reiterated his stance against the amendment. A number of religious bodies have also said they oppose the amendment including the Episcopal Diocese of NC.

Amendment 1 has caused a great deal of concern for many law experts in the state as the language that will go before voters would not just ban gay marriage, it would ban all marriage-like institutions including domestic partnerships and non-marriage partner benefits for gay and straight couples alike, something that legal commentators have warned could have costly and damaging legal repercussions for many residents in North Carolina.

The North Carolina GOP has also been widely criticized for claims that gay marriage will damage so-called traditional marriage in the state, and that gay marriage will hurt children. Legislators have also claimed that gay marriage would be the same as legalizing bestiality and polygamy.

@Tom Y. Clay Aiken rather eloquently explained how this amendment would hurt children yet you say it's propaganda. Can you explain your position and exactly how gay marriage hurts "traditional" marriage? No one that makes that claim has been able to answer that question. How exactly does marriage "continue and prosper" when the law forces limitations to allow only some couples to marry?

Protect the ideal, encourage it to become the reality. Without prejudging anyone, it's safe to say that committed, stable marriage is the best way to go for the current society and its future -- and that Clay Aiken's simply wrong when he advocates otherwise. (Using kids as a prop is a bit low and propagandistic too.) It's good that he loves North Carolina, though. A society rich in traditional marriage is the best bet for its continuation and posterity.

Good on you Clay.....and well said.!! Families as we know them to be today, are as diverse as we humans are individual, and with the high rate of divorce & separations amongst the straight community, goes to show that gay relationships can't fair any worse!! So why not legalize their commitment to their spouse? We ALL deserve the fundamental right to marry the person we love, how or why should we deny the gay community of this? Doesn't it just go to prove to the rest of us that they are in a serious relationship, and would like to have that acknowledged?
2012.....people - seriously - this shouldn't even be an "issue" anymore!!!! Let's just get on with with it...times change, isn't it about time that we change and grow up also???

I have no problem with no marriage available to anyone... see how long that lasts LOL. I still think any person should be able to marry any other person as long as both are consenting adults.

Do you know that when it started to become legal for whites to marry "other races", blacks, the same cry was heard? It would lead to people marrying animals, etc. Amazing how the far right is so obsessed isn't it?
