Daily Cute: A Mini Dachshund Meets a Mirror

Daily Cute: A Mini Dachshund Meets a Mirror

Who needs friends when you know how to have fun on your own? Certainly not this dachshund puppy after seeing a mirror for the first time. Hes having a blast all by himself and his reflection, of course.

Very cute, but sort of sad that he's obviously looking for someone to play with and the only option is an image. Hopefully his mom will get him a real playmate soon.

Mirror, mirror on the wall
Who's the cutest pup of all?

Sooooo cute! He's still a baby, so what I'm about to say does not involve him. A mirror is a simple IQ test for older animals after they've seen one a few times. Got two adult cats? Show them a mirror every day for a couple of days. I guarantee that the one who stops trying to interact with the cat in the mirror after one or two such experiments is the one who opens doors, drawers, etc. and never gets himself stuck in something dumb, like a big plastic bag (file cabinets are a different matter, since opening them requires some smarts to begin with, and they slide shut by themselves when you climb into them!). The smarter of my two enjoys posing with me in front of a mirror and I once saw him attempt to use one as a grooming aid. He sat down, facing the mirror, and started cleaning his back, got up, turned around and watched himself lick his back. It wasn't helpful, so he abandoned the effort, but it was darned clever to think of it in the first place.
