So I'm sort of wondering if Joey just might be diabetic, since one of the symptoms is an extreme level of thirst, and he seems to be wanting to drink all of this water, rather than just being the spray to cool down, etc. Interesting watching him.

Keep your cat well hydrated! It helps prevent kidney problems, which helps prevent litter pan avoidance. Get one of those circulating pet fountains or make your own with a little pump from a garden store. My vet told me to feed my cats mostly canned food, and to add about half a can of water and stir it into the food. This has saved me money, because the cats eat more of the food when it is moist. If I just put out a can of wet food, they lick up all the juices, and most of the meat goes to waste.

My late, great Tommy loved to play with water (and snow), but he'd also figured out that it could be useful in maintaining a clean, shiny coat. In warmer weather, he'd run in and out of the house when it was raining because he knew I'd towel him off when he came back in. Occasionally, he'd jump in the shower with me, get a spritz, hop out and wait for me to dry him. He tolerated baths (enjoyed would probably be pushing it), too.

Our cat when I was growing up used to lie next to the pool every day in the summer. She'd start out in the shade, but as the day progressed and the shade disappeared, she'd let her tail drape into the pool, and on hot days, she'd eventually roll over and into the pool, swim around for a few minutes and then use the ladder to climb out. She'd go back to her favorite spot, where she'd sunbath and groom. That pool was definitely her favorite warm weather thing!
