Perhaps we make a big deal out of this because so often, animals are killed rather than saved. The US is not kind to big cats, wolves, raptor and rattlesnakes (actually all snakes) and many other creatures. We poison, shoot and many times destroy just for the hell of it. So when something good comes along, yes, we make a big deal out of it!
