‘Deplorables’ Was Right: There’s Nothing Trump Can Do That Will Lose Him GOP Support

Remember when Hillary Clinton labeled half of Donald Trump’s supporters “deplorables” and conservatives freaked out? This past week’s events in Charlottesville put the deplorableness Clinton spoke of on display. Moreover, the Republican response to the incidents has gone to show that “half” might have been an underestimate on Clinton’s part.

In a new CBS News Poll, 67 percent of Republicans say they approve of Trump’s response to the Charlottesville attack. That means two-thirds of GOP voters are happy with having their leader hesitate to call out neo-Nazis, say that some white supremacists are good people and then later blame people on “both sides” for the violence.

At this point, the best excuses conservative pundits can come up with is that Trump doesn’t really mean what he said or that he put his foot in his mouth repeatedly. Still, if Republicans were inclined to believe that this is all some sort of big mistake, why would they “approve” of Trump’s words?

Trump has amassed an unflagging series of controversies in his short political tenure, none of which do much to ruffle his base:

  • When a tape came out featuring Trump bragging about sexual assaulting women, his poll numbers did not take a dive with Republicans, including Republican women.
  • When Trump proposed an unconstitutional travel ban on people from Muslim countries, he had the backing of 84 percent of Republicans.
  • When Trump fired FBI Director James Comey for not pledging loyalty to him, 62 percent of Republicans thought this termination was the right call.
  • When Trump tried to portray negative stories about him as phony, 80 percent of Republicans agreed that the mainstream media is full of “fake news.”

It stands to reason that Republicans wildly approve of the questionable things Trump does because they share his (lack of) values. If they won’t even stand up to Trump condoning violent white nationalists, then the “deplorable” shoe sure seems to fit on his base.

Liberal and independent Americans have held on to hope that Republican lawmakers will finally come to their senses and impeach Trump, but if this week’s shenanigans don’t get them talking, what will? The majority of Republicans in Congress have simply chose to keep their mouths shut on this issue, looking to weather another one of Trump’s self-created storms.

That’s not to say GOP politicians won’t condemn Trump’s comments and actions from time to time, but they treat them as if they were isolated incidents, without acknowledging the sum of all the parts that paint a picture of hate and incompetence.

With Trump remaining so popular with the Republican voter base, it’s no wonder that Republican lawmakers are willing to tiptoe around the president rather than holding him accountable for anything. Alarmingly, in a poll that came out this week, 82 percent of Republicans said that Trump was moving the party in the right direction. That suggests they want to see Congress be more like Trump. That sure sounds like a party that embraces racism to me!

It’s become increasingly clear that the solution to this problem is not to reason with Republican leadership and hope they’ll grow a conscience – it’s to gather all of America’s left/unaffiliated voters to oust a party that is willing to condone these ideas out of office. By repeatedly turning a blind eye, the GOP owns Trump and the Republican voters’ deplorable qualities… hopefully the party will pay dearly for it.

No Rhoberta the Russia story is fake. The only thing that is real, is the corrupt Democratic party that has become corrupt and corporate owned like the Republicans, cheated Bernie Sanders out of his primary, lied about the Nevada convention, anointed a horribly corrupt Wall Street establishment crook, Hillary, that gave this election to this fraud Trump, and has a horribly unfair rule, that gives the incumbent over 400 super delegates before even having a challenger, which makes it almost impossible for a challenger like Bernie Sanders to win. Hillary was so corrupt, Republicans voted for her, because they would make more money if she was elected.

Folks, Corporate fake Democrats like David Y think the Democrats can win by only bashing this fraud Trump and advancing this phony Russia story to divert attention from the corruption in the Democratic party. This won’t work, because it already failed when the Democrats became corrupt and corporate owned like the Republicans, cheated Bernie Sanders out of his primary, and chose a horribly corrupt candidate Hillary, which gave the election to this fraud Trump. David Y accuses me of tearing down the Democratic party by criticizing it, but people will not vote for the Democrats unless they end their corruption, choose honest progressive candidates, like Bernie Sanders, and support progressive policies that we desperately need in this country, like single payer universal healthcare, marijuana legalization, free colleges, and a $15.00 an hour minimum wage. So far most of the Democrats are refusing to support these policies because they are corrupt, and corporate owned like the Republicans. David Y is so dense, that he wants to double down on the same failed strategy that the Democrats used to lose to this fraud Trump. Instead of attacking the corruption in the Democratic party, which must be eliminated if the Democrats hope to beat this crook Trump in 2020, David Y attacks the messenger, me. This demonstrates why corporate fake Democrats like David Y are the problem with the party, and why the Democrats have lost almost eve

brian f who voted for the Democrats AND Ms. Clinton name calls anyone who doesn't get on his "hate the Democrats" bandwagon.
I think David Y is fully aware of the happenings in the 2016 election and is ALSO aware that there are more important things to work towards in 2018.
brian f wants you to believe that if you don't agree with brian's very old whining, you MUST be wrong. He gives you NO credit for free thinking. trump BOT

Well folks, now you see what a true sellout David Y is. David tells me that I would have also took money for speeches if I had power like Hillary. So now David Y is defending the 21 million dollars Hillary took for speeches. Bernie Sanders has no power in the Democratic party. Why do you think Obama appointed sellout liar Wall Street crook Tom Perez? The Democrats have no intention of giving Bernie Sanders any power because he is honest and would try to stop their corruption. The Democrats also have a horribly unfair super delegate rule that gives the incumbent over 400 super delegates before even having a challenger. The Green party isn’t allowed any power by the corrupt two party duopoly. Maybe if sellouts like David F supported the Green party and Jill Stein, instead of saying she has no chance, she could win. We can’t make changes in the Democratic party, if we can’t criticize their crooks like Nancy Pelosi who is worth 100 million dollars, and refuses to support single payer universal healthcare because she is bought and paid for by big pharma and our criminal healthcare industry. The fact that most of the Democrats are crooks like the Republicans and don’t support progressive policies that we desperately need in this country, like single payer universal healthcare doesn’t bother David Y, who ignores all the corruption in the Democratic party, which will cause this

brian f voted for Ms. Clinton and the Democratic party. He says I support "corrupt Democrats" but as a Canadian I don't "support" any US party. I only know that what trump does is hurting the US, Canada and the rest of the world. THAT is MY concern.
Until he moves on and does something constructive, I will assume he is just as unhinged as trump showed he was last night in Arizona.
