Dumb Platform Wants to Keep Kids Dumb, Dummy.

  • 2 of 2

Educational Entitlement – We encourage legislation that prohibits enrollment in free public schools of non-citizens unlawfully present in the United States.

Parental Rights in Education – We believe the right of parents to raise and educate their children is fundamental. Parents have the right to withdraw their child from any specialized program. We urge the Legislature to enact penalties for violation of parental rights.

Sex Education – We recognize parental responsibility and authority regarding sex education. We believe that parents must be given an opportunity to review the material prior to giving their consent. We oppose any sex education other than abstinence until marriage.

Religious Freedom in Public Schools – We urge school administrators and officials to inform Texas school students specifically of their First Amendment rights to pray and engage in religious speech, individually or in groups, on school property without government interference. We urge the Legislature to end censorship of discussion of religion in our founding documents and encourage discussing those documents.

School Health Care – We urge legislators to prohibit reproductive health care services, including counseling, referrals, and distribution of condoms and contraception through public schools. We support the parents’ right to choose, without penalty, which medications are administered to their minor children. We oppose medical clinics on school property except higher education and health care for students without parental consent.

These are just the most egregious bits in the education section of the platform. Excuse me. My brain has just exploded from all the fail.

I don't know what is worse the fact that they are trying to keep kids dumb and uneducated for their own purposes, or that they expect us to swallow the lies that they are using to back up their plan.

If you read anything by Charlotte Iserbyt: "the deliberate dumbing down of America" then what's happening in the school system will make sense. You can see her on YouTube. Highly recommended.

Give Mars to the GOP

Since Republicans frequently threaten to secede, if they don’t get their way, it
came to me that there is really no reason to break up the country. Instead,
why not give Republicans a planet of their very own? The more I pondered
this, it became clear that Mars would be ideal for Republicans and here are
ten reasons why.

10) The lighter gravity would make it easier to hold up Donald Trump's hair.

9) They could outlaw Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid.

8) They could say global warming is good without lying.

7) Willard could bury his tax returns there.

6) Since Republicans lack curiosity, Curiosity is already there.

5) Methane, which Republicans have in abundance, is ideal for terraforming.

4) Since mars has no intelligent life, Republicans there would change nothing.

3) Republicans would have a whole new world to destroy.

2) Mars is already a red planet.

1) If they were on Mars, they would not be here.

It doesn't mention anything about quantum mechanics, set theory, fuzzy logic or chaos theory.

I agree with Don B. Loved your comment. Let Texas secede form the Union and take all the other crazies with them. We'd all be better off.

If students were able to become critical thinkers, challenging preconceived ideas they would start questioning the illogical and foolish policies of the GOP.

Yes, Wim Z. does like to punch that Add Comment button ad nauseam but I suspect it is more of a way of getting easy butterfly points than having problems seeing the post come up. Whatever the reason it is annoying and pointless, akin to the GOP.

Steve R - Once again you make no sense what so ever!!!!! But for you and the other wackos making comments on this thread, your motto is "don't confuse me with the facts".
I bet you really did not read the thread. Really read the thread, try using your brain, then respond.

The 3% who think these things make sense are the usual wackos. We all know who they are.
This is, after all, Texas. One must turn in their brain at the border.

One of the things I learned from my youth group kids (I was leader) was that kids want guidelines (some might say rules but rules can be sometimes too rigid) and the freedom to explore, whether that be their faith, science, history or general societal moraes. I think exploring is vital to developing critical thinking, understanding and finally their opinions. And those opinions will change and evolve as their knowledge grows. To discourage that is in my mind abuse.

Kristina J used an excellent analogy of lego. Creativity, imagination, ingenuity and innovation are all stiffled if we, to use Kristina's metaphor, only use the modern, already predetermined lego.

Another analogy might be the cattle or horse shutes. If you're sorting animals in one corral into different groups each in its own corral, you work the animals down a shute opening and closing gates until they are in the right corral. Those who want to control population seem to be doing just that --- predetermining where they want kids to be, compliant and unthinking as adukts.

This Texas Republican/Teabagger education platform is a guaranteed recipe for failure.
