The Humane Society has created a new change agenda that includes a list of 100 changes that can be made immediately by the Obama administration to help animals, including pets, farm animals, lab animals and wildlife.
The new change agenda also calls for the addition of an Animal Protection Liaison to work with various federal agencies and Congress in areas that concern animal welfare including policy development, regulations and legislation.
Additionally, the list calls for appointing another Assistant US Attorney to head an Animal Protection Division in the Justice Department to ensure the enforcement of animal protection laws.
The new change agenda also provides suggestions for the additional 18 agencies that oversee animal welfare issues, such as the United States Department of Agriculture, Environmental Protection Agency, Federal Trade Commission and Health and Human Services among others.
The animal welfare issues addressed range from puppy mills, wild animal exhibitions, exotic pet trade, animal testing, whaling, pets in public housing, trophy hunting, Class B dealers, antibiotic use on factory farms and so on. All important issues that need to be addressed.

Killing people is illegal, why not even on animals what did they do to be treated like this?
We are a voice for the animals, and we are to care for all creatures. Although not a Roman Catholic, I personally agree with Pope John Paul II who proclaimed that "the animals possess a soul and men must love and feel solidarity with our smaller brethren...animals are as near to God as men are." You may not believe this, but I do, and I feel in pretty good company. Thanks!
Just so people are clear on this...
Obama made a lot of promises about adopting a dog from a shelter but never did. He accepted a purebred as a gift from Ted Kennedy. Also the Obama administration is going to allow the hunting of wolves again in some states, even mothers with cubs.
Horse Pucky. Another HSUS and PETA strategy to get political power to further their agenda of no pet breeding or sale regardless of the situation. Pets are not little humans although many are treated as such. Spoiled pets, especially dogs, become problems when owners resist humane training. Humans HAVE to "own" them because we are legally responsible for them! Responsible dog breeders are being grouped with the worst puppy mills although these facts seem unimportant to the political agendas of HSUS and PETA. If you are interested in animal welfare please support your local humane society, no-kill animal shelter or the ASPCA (American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals). They are the ones doing the real animal rescue work. BTW, all American Kennel Club chapters and single breed clubs do rescue work on a continuous basis, 365 days a year at our own expense. Most of us don't even breed dogs, we do fun stuff with our dogs and we rescue or raise money for rescuing dogs.
GREED....this is what is wrong with our world today. You see it in Factory Farms, slaughterhouses, animal testing labs, and fur farms.. As a result of "mass producing" all these facilities mistreat animals in the worse way. They all are abused, suffer unspeakable pain, live in filty conditions, and die a miserbale brutal death and why? Because it costs too much money to treat them humainly..sad isn;t it? I pray Obama steps up and creates a more humane exhistance for these all animals.They deserve his help!

I signed the petition above for the animals, but I am still infuriated by the Humane Society of the US for supporting Michael Vick and going so far as to use him as a spokesperson. Someone who abuses animals is not going to be rehabilitated in two years. I will NOT support them. I will continue to support my local Humane Society and shelters, and I will continue to care for my adopted animals--two adopted from local Humane Societies and one stray left in a gas station in the snow in the middle of West Texas.
Animals are an awe-inspiring component of our planet earth. Remember it was GOD that stipulated their existence. Frankly ‘only’ a vile delusional, underprivileged and dim-witted human being would exploit, harm or inflict misery on an animal. Whether a person’s behavior is based on mere feeblemindedness or an unscrupulous soul... PLEASE, Lets ALL work together to protect animals from the human idiots roaming on OUR planet.
