Fasting For Climate Justice

In two months, the world’s leaders will gather together in Copenhagen to create a successor to the Kyoto Protocol. NASA climate scientist, James Hansen believes that in order for civilization as we know it to continue, carbon dioxide emissions must be reduced to 350 parts per minute (ppm). One of the demands of Climate Justice Fast, an Australian organization, is reducing carbon emissions to 350 ppm. The way Climate Justice Fast is calling attention to “the urgency of climate action,” is through a hunger strike.
Yes, you read the last sentence correctly. Climate Justice Fast participants started a hunger strike on November 6 which will last until the end of Copenhagen conference on December 18. Not every participant is fasting that long, for some are fasting one day. The organization suggests groups can participate in a rolling fast by having every member choose a day to fast.
Although Climate Justice Fast is based in Australia, people from the U.S. the UK, India, France, Germany, Canada, South Africa, Belgium, Honduras, Bhutan, New Zealand, and the Philippines are participating.
Climate Justice Fast’s Call For Justice calls for “all people, everywhere to act with courage and good faith for our common, global good.” In addition to stabilizing carbon dioxide at 350 ppm, participants want $160 billion year for developing countries to mitigate climate change, the reduction and rejection of over-consumption.
The following is an excerpt from the Call For Justice:
We urge all people, everywhere, to make a commitment to join the movement for climate justice, and to not to give up until we succeed in these demands being met.
We are offering the strongest form of moral protest against climate inaction, and standing up for true climate justice. We call on both the global public and their political representatives to fulfill their moral responsibility to halt and reverse climate change, and to protect the world’s most vulnerable people and our children from its effects.

Solving global warming has nothing to do with justice and everything to do with logic and science. The only way to avoid disaster is to lower our consumption of fossil fuels and, much more importantly, the birth rate on planet earth.

An article basically debunking Mortensen's film, the one suggested by Kai.
If we want to talk about those who are money hungry, let's talk about those who run the corporations that contribute to global warming. Let's face it, it's not profitable for these businesses to change their dirty ways. The sheer volume of ice in the arctic has shrunk dramatically since 2004, among other things affected by global warming. What's actually more profitable (at least in the short term) is to everyone to walk around with blindfolds on and pretend that we're not destroying the planet. It's simply not logical thinking to believe that pumping way more CO2 into the atmosphere than the earth was designed to handle is not affecting the climate, and the health of every living thing on this planet. With increased rates of cancer, asthma, and other illnesses affected largely by pollution, you clowns with your debunked "science" are trying to convince me that this pollution isn't also affecting the climate? What a farce. It's like the butterfly effect...any small action on our part (or large, in the case of pollution) will influence everything, including temperatures, health, animals...the entire ecosystem as a whole.

GinaMarie,I respect your sincerity but you need to understand the facts about climate change. The "hockey stick" graph you present has been fully discredited by numerous studies. My own research shows that the warming trend from 1978-1998 has ended & temperatures have been declining again. As well, the warming period from 1978-1998 was COOLER than the warming period from 1924-1941! CO2 is not a major contributor to climate change on the earth-the sun IS. The basic physics of water vapor's control of the retarding of heat reradiation into space keeps our earth at a livable temperature-CO2 has very little to do with it. We are not in control. The lies by Al Gore-admitted by him, by the way-are blatant attempts to enrich himself personally through his cap-and-trade company. Follow the money and the philosophy of Mr. Gore and Maurice Strong and you will find an insidious philosophy for one-world government & transfer of wealth from western industrial nations to poorer areas of the earth-with Blood & Gore and Strong making huge commissions on all this money changing hands. (Socialism works very well for a period until you run out of other peoples wealth!) Free hand-outs also lead to the death of free-enterprise work ethic into an entitilement mentality. I have worked on REAL air pollution problems for 35 years; we need to rededicate ourselves to really cleaning up the toxic messes we create and reducing wasteful consumerism. I agree with Kai J's comments. The graph above does not show the last 10 years where the planet has been cooling. Why is that? "They" don't want you to see.
Mathias N mentions 'The Age of Stupid'. Yes, a very well prepared and put together film, but what you should be looking at is the "Not Evil Just Wrong" website and film.
