It’s a Super Bowl milestone! 2010 marks the first time that fans will be able to order up kosher hot dogs, grilled salami sliders, and knoblewurst (a garlic laden hot dog).
It’s about time — airlines have been doing it for decades. IsraelNationalNews.com reports that Kosher Sports Inc. (KSI), a New York-based kosher concessions provider, has signed a contract to provide kosher food to this year’s Pro Bowl and Super Bowl games.
Better pass the mustard, because come game time, excited and hungry fans will make history as they start lining up for kosher hot dogs.
The exact meaning of kosher can be confusing for the non-Jew. For the short explanation, “kosher” refers to food prepared in accordance with Jewish dietary laws that state, in part, that some animals may not be eaten at all; for an animal to be kosher it must have split hooves and chew its cud; meat cannot be eaten with dairy; utensils that come into contact with meat may not be used with dairy and vice versa; and utensils that come into contact with non-kosher food may not be used with kosher food.
Of the animals that may be eaten, certain parts may not be eaten and the animal must be slaughtered in accordance with Jewish law. The animal can not have died of natural causes and must be free of disease. The method of slaughter, causing unconsciousness within seconds, is widely considered to be the most humane method of slaughter.
Kosher food is a matter of religion to some, but the more humane, less guilt inducing method of slaughter combined with the thought of a more “pure” food product is helping kosher foods to gain in popularity among non-Jews. The kosher food market is experiencing an annual growth of about 15 percent, while the non-kosher food sales in American supermarkets are growing at approximately 4 percent a year.*
Just how humane and pure kosher meats are is an issue not without controversy. Care2’s Heather Moore wrote a piece last year examining alleged abuses in kosher slaughterhouses, and suggested Humane Kosher as a resource for vegetarian recipes and information on other companies that make kosher-certified mock meats. You can read her article in its entirety here: Is kosher kinder?
If you are a vegan or a vegetarian, kosher meat is still meat. If you are a non-Jewish meat-eater, does the kosher label make a difference?

I am surprised about the voting result right now: 34 % NO and 43% YES. This is apparently due to people saying YES and not giving any comment... !
When will be become humble enough and understand that if there exists a creator, he could never be bought by all these religious dogmas made by humans for power purpose.
dmitry,
meat is meat. There is no difference between kosher and non-kosher???
That is like saying "dying is dying". "There is no difference
between your grandfather dying of a disease or your best friend
dying because his throat was slit"!!!!!
great
Why don't they bring dog fighting in for the halftime fun too. While showing the video of the poor cows. Ya think anyone there would care????? No. They think Michael Vick is a hero.
How about some veggie dogs?
Have you seen the undercover footage of the way cows are slaughtered for "kosher" beef???? More sickening than ANYTHING you can imagine.

Scroll down to Click here and make yourself watch this video, then go eat this "kosher" crap. HOW can a human being with a conscience treat these animals in such a torturous way??? Can't they kill them quick, THEN rip their throats out, then watch them struggle for more than a half an hour with their heads hanging, crying and mooing and trying to escape any way they can??? Holy shit is all I can say. Enjoy your tortured meat.
HERE'S THE KOSHER BEEF.
I thought this was an alright idea, but after reading the comments, it really isn't that much of a big deal...
