Google Earth Video Shows Ocean Pollution Is A Global Problem

Google Earth Video Shows Ocean Pollution Is A Global Problem

Millions of people have enjoyed the novelty of finding the roof of their house, school, or office on Google Earth, a mapping tool that allows the user to explore the world in 3D.

With Ocean in Google Earth, you can dive beneath the surface, explore the ocean with top marine experts, learn about ocean observations, climate change, endangered species and discover new places including surf spots, shipwrecks and travel spots.

Recently, Google and NOAA teamed up to build a tour that showcases some of the major problems our oceans are facing, as well as the main sources of ocean pollution around the world.

Watch Below:

During the last week of March, dignitaries and ocean experts from around the world gathered in Hawaii for the Fifth International Marine Debris Conference to discuss how to best combat the economic and environmental impacts of marine debris.

If you didn’t find the Google Earth Tour video sufficiently shocking, check out this disturbing b-roll of marine debris found floating on and around in the Northwestern Hawaiian Islands.

In this age of visual effects and instant images, maps like Google Earth can become an effective tool, especially in schools. Teachers could show the direct impacts their student's daily trash are having on their surroundings and the second hand effects on the rest of the planet, proving once and for all, how interconnected we ALL are !!
The students can then show their parents, their political representatives, etc. and shame them to do better for the futur of the planet and the human race !

I pick up trash and fishing lines whenever I kayak or go to the beach. Most people think I'm nuts.

most people who don't live close to the ocean don't know how polluted it really is

A big problem. This video made me sit up. So much pollution at sea and on land. People stop and think, of all the harm, plus health risks it causes. Let's clean up the beaches, parks and wetlands to help mother earth.

8:16PM PDT on Apr 13, 2011

Of course ocean pollution is a tragic problem, as is earth pollution, water pollution and air pollution. If there were anything else that could be polluted it would be. The pollution is caused by the garbage of too many people in the world, garbage that is created by the wanton and irresponsible destruction of the resources that humans need in order to continue to exist. As population continues to increase, it WILL get worse. This just in ! "Be fruitful and multiply" is not up to date advice. Fasten your seat belts.

We've all got to be a lot more responsible in whatever way we can.

this is truly SHOCKING - i knew a bit about this but this information is devastating. i watched the linked videos too. but -- it does inspire me to start with myself. as he says in the other you tube video - no country can clean up the oceans now and would destroy sea life if it tried to sieve for plastic. but the source can be stopped. thankyou
