People have many different ways of memorializing a day like September 11th, 2001. Some will be attending memorials, both local and national. Others may be visiting sites of the attacks, or consoling those who lost friends or loved ones.
Then there are the people who will be trying to cash in.
Probably the most notorious 9/11 item is the “commemorative wine” being released by Lieb Family Cellars. A portion of the wine’s sales will go to the September 11th museum, and the winery has done such a promotion in the past for other 9/11 commemorative activities. Still, many can’t help but find the idea distasteful, crass or downright grotesque.
Still, it isn’t as obviously “make a buck off a tragedy” as the “9/11 Superman flask.” Yes, it’s just what it sounds like — a flask of Superman standing in front of the smoking towers of the World Trade Center, a tattered American flag in his hand.
Nothing says honoring loss like cashing in on an American crisis, super heroes and all.
