Submit your Questions for the Live Tele-Townhall with President Obama and AARP
posted by: Heather H. 235 days ago

You may remember that Care2 was invited to a townhall back in the spring that invited questions from the audience and online. You've also likely noticed that lately, the President has been focusing a lot of energy on promoting his health care reform agenda. Well, tomorrow, our friends at AARP will be hosting President Obama for a live, webcast town hall on health reform at 1:30 p.m. Eastern. Here's the address for the event: http://www.aarp.org/townhall
Yes, it's short notice, but as with his other town halls, he will be taking some questions that have been submitted by the Internet. So get your question in now!

Clearly, with health care dominating news coverage (and most energy in Washington DC) this is an excellent opportunity for President Obama to take on some of the hard-hitting questions that are being asked every day in the media and in your communities, diners, churches, etc. Internet questions will be taken as will live audience questions and callers.
We'll provide the link again to the townhall tomorrow during the live webcast.

More on life expectancy ...
If you were French instead of American, on average, you and every one of your loved ones would enjoy over 33 months of additional life, even if more of your loved ones smoked cigarettes. Imagine.
And we fear this?????

More on infant mortality, and what is mean for us:
About 10,800 live births occur each day in the US. That's 71.5 heart-wrenching infant deaths that American families will face, each and every day. If they lived in France, half of that terrible greif would not befall these poor families. Over 35 familes would be spared, every single day.

More on cost in the US vs. France, with some editorializing:
Our cost is nearly $12, every single day of the year -- for each and every person, whether they have coverage or not. In France, it's a little over 6 bucks per day, and everyone is covered and cared for, better than us.

Très bien, Edith P!
France's single-payer system should be the model for US heathcare. Sadly, the Obama-proposed reforms are based too much on the bloated US system.
For American who fear single-payer, or godforbid, Solcialist! medicine, here are the hard facts from the CIA World Factbook and NationaMaster.com (informational sites, not advocacy sites):
Cost
France ... $2,288 (per person); 10.5% of GDP
USA ... $4,271 (per person, but not everyone get covered); 15.4% of GDP
Infant mortality
France ... 3.3 per 1000 births, one of the lowest on earth
USA 6.62 per 1000 births, about average in the world, but not quite as good as Cuba
Life expectancy
France ... 80.98
USA ... 78.11
BTW, more people smoke in France than in the US.
Anyone who sells fear about the terrible Socialist! medicine in other countries is probably a mouthpiece for US insurance companies, whihc by the way, are much healther than we are.
I so wish that Obama had the courage to support a single-payer system. But we're too susceptible to fear and misinformation tactics. So the $3 Trillion US healthcare industry's lobbyist would win, as they did against then First Lady, Hillary Clinton. Imagine where we'd be today if we hadn't been so easy to scare.
That, my fellow citizens, is the price we pay for ignorance.
Best,
Jim

Lets see them step back and do SOMETHING RIGHT for a change instead of running and screaming "the sky is falling" again. Fix Medicare and Medicaid first, then talk to us about National Insurance. Stop the crap spending and the over inflated cost there, then come tell me you can do National Insurance right.

i am in support of single payer like we have en france. my critique from across the atlantique is no one should be forced to take it. it should be a choice. also handicap personnes need personal assistance if they cannot get medicaid like we have en france

okay...so some people know that the bill itself has a price tag of one billion per (gold) typed page and is approx. 1200 pages at this point. the bureaucratic medical/govt. control map and how it will work has been shown (and what a maze it is!) my question would be...who is going to pay all of these new admin. workers, overseers, cost adjustment people, end of life counselors etc? how many new people will be appointed/hired to oversee how this delivery system works, with all those czars and their staff that our taxes have recently begun to pay for...ha, aren't you afraid that "WE" may run out of money because quite a few of us no longer have jobs...and i bet there may even be people out there who r just gonna quit paying taxes(?) One more question, how can you hold so many town hall meetings, press conferences etc. when you haven't even read the bill, in fact how can anyone in congress and the senate even vote on it if they haven't read it? how bout this, let the american people vote on this bill so you all can have this coverage and we'll take yours...............................
