In Defense of Animals (IDA) has spent the past two years following the lives of Tina, Jewel and Queenie, three Asian elephants that were part of the Shrine Circus under the care of Will Davenport.
Davenport has been cited with multiple USDA violations and failure to properly care for the three elephants.
Thanks to IDA’s work and public outcry, Tina and Jewel were finally removed and sent to the San Diego Zoo’s Conrad Prebys Elephant Care Center where they’re reportedly doing well.
Sadly, and unbelievably, Queenie was left behind with Davenport in Texas when Tina and Jewel were taken away.
From IDA:
The USDA filed serious charges against Davenport in October, and we expected the agency to negotiate a prompt settlement which would result in Queenie going to a sanctuary. It now appears that Davenport intends to fight the charges, and no settlement has been announced. Queenie is still in his hands, although he is not permitted to exhibit her or to move her without the USDA’s consent. No governmental authority will acknowledge responsibility for her well-being.
IDA continues to monitor the situation closely, as we have for over two years. We continue to explore all legal options for helping Queenie. And we continue work to persuade the USDA that they have both the ability and the obligation to get Queenie to safety.
It is frustrating to contact the USDA only to be rebuffed by their claim that they have no jurisdiction – but the truth is that they are Queenie’s best hope for a happy ending. The USDA can - as it has in many previous cases, including the Hawthorn elephants – reach a settlement with Davenport, who faces substantial fines and possible jail time for the violations alleged against him. Sanctuary for Queenie should be a part of that settlement.
Both the PAWS sanctuary in California and The Elephant Sanctuary in Tennessee are ready and willing to take Queenie into their facilities and care for her for the rest of her life.
Please take a minute to speak up for Queenie.

+ add your ownLets hope Queenie lives her life in a safe sanctuary. Our family doesn't go to the circus, because animals don't deserve to be trained to perform, they should live in places, that are more like their natural habitat!!!!!!
SHOW HUMANITY... extend help... poor Quennie!
Hi EVERYONE! Just phoned in and put my name, state, phone # & comment for Queenie's release. I REALLY think we are all making a difference-KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK my wonderful caring friends! The woman I spoke with said the calls were coming in!
Why was Queenie left behind? What does Davenport want with her? How can we get news of Queenie's condition? My e-mail to USDA secretary, Kevin E. Shea was returned as undeliverable so I guess I will telephone the number given in the article to plead for her to be sent to an elephant santuary or to join the other 2 elephants in San Diego. I hate circuses.
Queenie Needs Help from the everyone out there to get her free and save her!!!Television Station's Etc... need to get involved!!! How Sad to think she was left behind.. Let us free her as well this New Year 2010. Enough of this abuse of animals!!!!
I continue to hope that we will hear news of Queenie's release SOON! She should not be suffering this way and we need to continue to fight for her. If the USDA only responds to major outcry ,then THAT IS WHAT WE NEED TO DO! Let's go team!
SHOW HUMANITY TO QUEENIE! SHE HAS SUFFERED ENOUGH!
Animal advocates need to start their own PAC - political action committee. While we tie up abusers in court, we then hire the best snipers in the country. We could take out Will Davenport, the judge in the Ringling Circus case, poachers, repeat animal abusers, the New York teenager in prison for cooking a kitten in the oven for spite. I have a long list of people I want dead, and the vivisectioners and scientists who experiment on animals for human disease cures are at the top of my list.
I wonder how many of you animal lovers are donating money to the American Cancer Society, Relay for Life, the March of Dimes, the Susan Komen Breast Cancer organization and many, many other well-known causes to end disease. All those named above give YOUR donated money to questionable scientists who experiment on animals. The testing is repetitive and useless, many reputable universities and charities have used non-animal testing that have accurate results. However, you keep pouring money into overflowing pockets without one question as to how they will use your donated funds. So, they show a few dead animals and claim they are still working on the problem, you keep giving more money and the live animals sit in a dank research room, away from any semblance of their natural world while enduring countless intrusions on their little bodies. These animals could be backyard pets snatched by the lowlifes who obtain animals for these "scientists."
What is wrong with Davenport? Are they so consumed with money? God will hold each of us accountable some day for our treatment His animals He put in our care as Hebrews 4:13 says in the Bible.
