It is Chengdu Panda Awareness Week, and panda-mania is everywhere. The video below will add to it. The awwww factor is huge.
The young pandas follow a Chengdu Panda Base staff member up the steps and then zip down the wooden slide. They obviously love it and keep coming back for more.
Panda popularity also increased in Japan this week, with the birth of a baby giant panda at Tokyo’s Ueno Zoo.
That is good news for fans of the rarest mammals in the world. As Beth Buczynski wrote in January:
Thirty years ago, Chinese scientists began to realize that their iconic panda bear was in danger of becoming completely extinct, so researchers from the Chengdu Panda Base rescued six weak animals from the wilderness and began species protection through new artificial breeding techniques. Today, the breeding population at the Chengdu Panda Base has increased from only 6 pandas to 108, making Chengdu Panda Base the world’s largest artificial breeding panda population.
We humans have a habit of regularly stealing habitat from our wild relatives. We also pen them in zoos, turn them into pets, and cut them up for body parts. Maybe one day we will figure out how much we depend on the whole interdependent web of life, in which each creature plays an essential role.
In the meantime, videos like this one may help a few more people understand why these beautiful creatures deserve an undisturbed place on the planet. So share it with friends, celebrate panda-mania, and sign the petition below.

Most beautiful and true words.
The panda bears are so cute, who could resist them.May they continue to breed and add to their population.
Funny and it's great that China rescuing the Panda Bears from extinction BUT other Bears are tortured in BEARFARMS!!!!!!!
While cute, it is unfortunate that they cannot be in the wild experiencing their natural habitat.
