Iowa GOP Pushes All Out Abortion Ban

Iowa GOP Pushes All Out Abortion Ban

While women’s health advocates had their eyes on Virginia mandating transvaginal ultrasounds and declaring a fetus a person Iowa Republicans introduced an outright abortion ban.

The bill, House File 2298 would outlaw all abortions, even in cases of rape or incest or to save the life of the mother. Any person who purposefully terminates a pregnancy would face a prison sentence of up to life in prison.

Iowa Democrats complain Republicans have lost focus on jobs, which is a legitimate complaint. Another legitimate complaint is that Republicans are insistent on criminalizing abortion and controlling women’s health because of a belief they hold that women are not, by their nature, equal beings as men.

Can we just start saying this out loud already?

The impact of House File 2298 making its way into law is clear: women who miscarry will face criminal investigations to determine whether that pregnancy was terminated “purposefully”, women facing an unintended pregnancy in the midst of treatment for another medical condition like cancer would be mandated to carry that pregnancy to term even if it kills her, and thousands of desperate women will still try to abort.

And the outcome will always be the same. Women will die. Women will die avoidable deaths. And those that don’t die will become criminals.

So yes, I guess I’d say the Republicans have lost focus, on jobs. So since that’s happened, let’s start calling them out on what they have focused on instead: a public declaration that the lives of American women are simply and completely disposable.

I am pro-life and make no apologies for it. Very seldom is a woman's life any more endangered by a pregnancy and birth than it would be by an abortion. No, these are not clumps of "fetal tissue" or "products of conception." They are the tiny bodies of living human beings who have been mercilessly destroyed by being ripped apart or poisoned and burned with strong salt solutions. Many women report feeling their child thrash about in pain and terror as the deadly salt solution does it's work. Some of these children are born alive and are left to die cold and gasping for breath, ripped from the what should have been the safety of their mother's womb. Tiny bodies re-assembled in a bowl, parts counted, to make sure the doctor "got all of it." Women still die from abortions. Always have and always will. It takes a sick and twisted individual to be able to perform abortions. Sadly, many of these doctors are the same obstetrician you go to with your "wanted pregnancy." I will never believe that women have the right to murder children. Get your tubes tied if you don't want to be a mother. Otherwise, you're still a mother, just the mother of a dead baby. Children are blessings from God.

@Arthur L: Couldn't agree more. I've said the same thing a number of times. As a man I've also said that if we had to have the children, there would be no more worries about overpopulation as the birth rate would drop precipitiously!

If men could become pregnant, men would declare abortion to be a sacrament. No man has the right to tell a woman what she may do with her own body. It is time that women stand up to misogynists, and repeal those women already controlled by men who decry the woman's right to allow to abort fetal cell development: it is a fetus, it is not a child--therefore not a person and not subject to any government or any member of government.

Mercedes L.-
How did the state of Oklahoma get into this? The article is about activity in Iowa...you might be stirring up an issue you didn't expect...

Do what I am doing.

I informed the Governor of Oklahoma that if this bill goes through, I am pursuing a suit to force the State to enforce it to the maximum logical extent.

FORCE them to pay for ENFORCED pregnancy tests for every menstruating female in the state, every month.

FORCE them to follow up on the ones that turn up positive, every month.

FORCE them to use their State Police to investigate every situation where a test is positive one month and negative the next to for criminal charges of abortion or conduct leading to miscarriage.

I told the Governor that I fully expect the pregnancy tests alone would bankrupt a State Treasury within months, and forcing the state cops to investigate bogus "abortions" would keep them from doing anything else.

If they want evrwy pwecious zygote to be "protected" they had better ante up.

And if they actually went through with it....the uproar would make the anti-Walker rebellion look like a flash in the pan.

And if they want a scorched-earth policy, let's show them what one really looks like.
