While the Boy Scouts of America this week affirmed that it’s just as anti-gay as ever, this seems a good opportunity to point out that the British version of the scouting association is anything but, with Wayne Bulpitt, UK Chief Commissioner at The Scout Association, having recorded last year the following It Gets Better video:
The Boy Scouts of America, after a lengthy two-year consultation on its “we do not grant membership to individuals who are open or avowed homosexuals” policy, decided that it would not change its stance, saying an eleven member panel, considering polling data from across its membership, voted unanimously against the move.
It has been alleged however that the head of the U.S. Boy Scouts Association, in considering the group’s anti-gay stance, may have taken advice form known hate group the American Family Association. It has also been disputed that the association actually took a poll of its members, as it had claimed, in deciding to retain its anti-gay position, implying that it instead acted unilaterally to retain the ban.
