Imagine you are in a bucolic setting where cows wearing bells are enjoying time in the sun and grass under their hoofs. Sounds beautiful, right?
Then think how it would seem if a group of musicians started to serenade the cows with jazz classics…
That’s what happened in Autrans, France when members of The New Hot 5 New Orleans-style Jazz Band came to town.
Staring out with a solo on the tuba in tunes that seem familiar to cows, the band slowly piques the bovine’s interest and they gently meander over to the fence for a front row seat. Now the trumpet joins in and the melody of As the Saints Go Marching In can be heard.
Add a banjo, clarinet and trombone and the cows are really enjoying the show. Is it me or are those four-hoofed gals shaking their heads to the sounds?
I guess that expression that “music is the universal language” isn’t so far off!

Wow, that was nice!!!
Awesome! Loved this! I know for a fact my cats love, and respond to music.
Nice!
I have always had a special love for cows. Wonder what they were thinking of all this.
They are totally loving it!!
I think the cows were clearly enjoying the music! (I think someone did a study trying to determine the music animals liked best- not sure of all the ratings, but I think heavy metal was not a favorite!)
Music hath charms to soothe the savage beast, urrr cows.
Some of the old farmers I have known have told me that the cows are more content and healthier if music is consistently left playing in the barn. I have also had an occasion in which a misguided young man decided that chasing a friend's cows seemed to be the thing to do. She called me upset over the situation (which she had to go to work) and asked me to check on them. When I did, I found that use of an instrument did much to calm them and return the peace and normality to them after being thoroughly distressed.
