International Women’s Day gives us an opportunity to both celebrate the lives of women and girls across the world and to reflect on the sobering challenges that remain in ensuring all women and girls have the tools necessary to shape their own destinies.
There may be no greater tool in shaping a woman’s destiny than access to affordable contraception. Planned Parenthood Federation of America’s Global division released this video, narrated by Emmy-nominated actress Connie Britton to highlight the critical importance of family planning funding and access around the world.
Investment in global family planning programs is a critical part of building stable communities world-wide. If we want peace we must work for justice, so the saying goes. And if we work for justice that means investing in the lives of the women and girls across the world.

Brazil lowered its Total Fertility Rate from 6.X to slightly more than 2.0--in fact, it's now close to being 1.9 (lower than that of the U.S.) in two generations. Brazil is a Catholic country--but the women accomplished this themselves. (Some kudos should also be given to telenovas.)
The kind of health care the GOP doesn't want US women to have has become the salvation for women in other parts of the world--if they win this battle, they'll try to wage it on UN aid again next...and all women of the world will be harmed by this small minority imposing their religion on everyone
