Louisiana Republican: Ban Abortion, Sterilize Poor Women and Pay the Wealthy to Procreate

Louisiana State Rep John Labruzzo (R) has introduced “feticide” legislation to ban all abortion in his state and sentence women and doctors who violate the ban to 15 years hard labor. The law would make no exceptions for cases of danger to the health of the mother, incest or rape, and would essentially be an attempt to overturn Roe v. Wade in the state of Louisiana.

In previous attempts to manipulate, penalize and reward women’s reproductive choices, Labruzzo has also suggested Louisiana law should pay poor women to be sterilized and well-to-do women to crank out more financially secure kids into the American gene-pool.

From the New Orleans Times-Picayune:

Worried that welfare costs are rising as the number of taxpayers declines, state Rep. John LaBruzzo, R-Metairie, said Tuesday he is studying a plan to pay poor women $1,000 to have their Fallopian tubes tied…

It also could include tax incentives for college-educated, higher-income people to have more children, he said.

Julie Mickelberry, spokesperson for Planned Parenthood of the Gulf Coast, denounced Labruzzo’s actions as sham politics, intended not really to impact local law, but to give legal ammo to anti-choice groups in a federal setting:

“The bill is purely political. It’s not at all about preventing abortion—he said it himself…his intention is to give anti-choice groups a bill they can take to court.”

This really has me mad! I want to know....How in the world did this guy get elected!!! Who voted for this CRAZY man. He sounds like HITLER with selective birth!!! This guy is creepy, like someone else mentioned. Republicans always preach less government, less government, this guy is taking government right into our personal lives, very personal lives, right into our bedrooms!

Aw, HELL no! Anyway, what are we? China?

Anyway, if you're gonna sterilize anybody, do the guys. It's outpatient surgery, snip snip, very easy. Much less hassle than sterilizing women! Cause it isn't women getting pregnant all by themselves, now, is it.

And I don't care if they are rich or poor. Three strikes, boys. Three unwanted pregnancies, as evidenced by:
a) an abortion
b) an adoption, OR
c) his failure to pay child support

This is a way better system. A woman gets pregnant, and while she's being pregnant she can't get pregnant again, at least not for at least another 9 months.

But the "baby daddy" could get another woman pregnant every single night for that same 9 months.

Makes more sense. Responsible men could still father children. Irresponsible men could rack up conquests without leaving behind legions of kids whose names and birthdays they don't remember.

This is getting so close to the novel Handmaid Tale by Margaret
Atwood. I remember marching in demonstrations in the late 60's early 70's for women's ability to have command of their own bodies, and it would only be for the greater good to remember not to ever take the relentless dedication our generation had to be sure our daughters and grand daughters would never have to shout down, be arrested, spit on, and harassed just so they could have the right to dictate what they wanted to do based on their personal self evaluation. This was not just about a woman's right to choose, but to eventually have equal pay, stop being called sweetie at the work place, and a promotion when due. And if this didn't happen as it should then we fought to have laws in place to have recourse. Well, the fight is upon us, again, much sooner than I feared. I am now a grandmother of 6, 2 of whom are girls and I will not allow a bunch of bigoted, narrow minded, fascist jerks stand between my 'girls' having full and happy lives without the restraints of their personal freedoms . Period. The GOP (Grease Our Pockets) need to be stopped by writing, posting, marching, attending town meetings and shouting them down, demanding accountability, demanding answers, demanding to be heard..because if we are silent now your daughters and sons will not know life as we have these last few decades, and will be the worse for the loss.

Seems I have to change my opinion of the South. Always thought it was Mississippi, Alabama and Tennessee that all shared the same last name and DNA. Guess it's those from Louisiana.....
Jokes aside. This guy and lots of the same kind of repukes, will eventually get their ideas into law. That is we don't stop them! Do whatever necessary to kick them out of office. If it takes smudge campaigns, so be it. Get rid of all that attack women, underpriviledged, sick and unemployed. Get rid of all those that want to hand over the whole country and its wealth to the few mega rich and homungusly large corporations.
Make sure they never ever have a chance to influence everyday life of the American public and the rest of the world!

Rep. Labruzzo's Mother should have aborted him.

Joslynne Davidson

This is fascism. They are here and they have been voted in to make laws that marginalize minorities, women, and promote a feudal society by making corporations run the country. And the problem is that no one is doing much about it. They have so inundated people with the "socialism" propaganda that the people feel overwhelmed. These people were produced right here in America.

Being poor is not a crime. Mother Theresa was poor. Abraham Lincoln was poor. Ghandi was poor. Jesus was poor. I am sure you can thing of others. Poor does not mean morally bankrupt.

We need to start saying no. Recall the politicians. Don't vote for them next time. Get off your duffs and VOTE. Bring someone with you to vote. Start registering those who have been marginalized and denied the vote because they are 'poor'. I would donate the cost of picture ID for a person to be able to vote. Do it before they take away the vote completely-it is coming (no I don't believe in conspiracies-I do believe in facts and trends). Do something before it is too late.

Don't just blog-get out and do it!
