Missouri Democrat Claire McCaskill is expected to have to fight tooth and nail to keep her seat in the senate this year. But new polling is giving her a bit more hope that the fight is winnable.
According to The Hill, McCaskill is now leading every one of her potential rivals in head to head polling, from a five point lead over Congressman Todd Akin to nine point lead over former State Treasurer Sarah Steelman.
McCaskill, a moderate Democrat who has come under fire for not supporting unemployment benefit extensions and her inability to work with her party to try to pass a budget, has been dubbed one of the more vulnerable of Democratic senators up for election this year, and a key target of Republicans, especially anti-choice activists.
Republican Party front group Susan B. Anthony List gave potential GOP nominee Steelman their endorsement last week, saying Steelman was needed to take out the “EMILY’s List darling,” referring to McCaskill.
Steelman has now become the front runner for the nomination. She is also the one polling the furthest behind McCaskill.
