Morning Mix: Is Santorum Going To Win This Thing?

366 comments Morning Mix: Is Santorum Going To Win This Thing?

The conservative coup of former Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum forges on. Santorum currently leads in the polls up to the Washington caucus and still leads in Michigan. Santorum is also neck-and-neck with Romney in Arizona, making this a great time to pitch his campaign to the state’s hard-right constituency. Santorum met with nativist sheriff, birther and recall target Joe Arpaio where I’m sure neither one mentioned embattled former Romney campaign co-chair and now-openly gay and pro-gay marriage sheriff Paul Babeau.

Meanwhile, Republicans have started to go a little nuts worrying that he might actually pull off wining the nomination which seems to embolden Santorum who refuses to back down from statements like prenatal testing should not be covered by insurance because women might use that information to abort.

Interesting how conservatives are totally fine using prenatal testing like transvaginal ultrasounds to shame a woman out of an abortion while also completely opposed to prenatal testing if they think it would lead to an abortion.

Anyways, back to Republicans freaking out about a Santorum nomination. Do you think they are worried enough to strike a deal with Rep. Ron Paul?

Something has to explain why he’s buddying up with Romney. Paul has a new ad buy in Michigan that hits Santorum as a big government spender. Coincidentally, Romney’s running similar ads. And the Paul campaign is now passing around opposition research on Santorum also not making a pitch for Paul as much as trying to take out Santorum. Seriously, folks. This convention is going to be quite the show.

Speaking of shows, former Republican presidential candidate and current congresswoman Rep. Michele Bachmann was re-districted out of her congressional seat today. For a brief moment Minnesota politics geeks salivated at the potential match-up between Bachmann and Rep. Betty McCollum (D), a solid liberal voice in Congress and the representative from Bachmann’s new congressional district. Bachmann isn’t feeling up to the fight though and instead of running to represent the district which she lives she’ll seek to run for the newly-created and Republican-friendly 6th district.

Translated: Bachmann isn’t going anywhere anytime soon.

Finally, Republicans have gone so hysterical over female sexuality that they’ve gone on the offensive and accused the Girl Scouts of serving as radicalized operatives of Planned Parenthood.

You can’t make this stuff up.

LD B. I seem to recall you accusing ME of being evasive. Is this correct? I CERTAINLY recall you accusing me of sophistry. What point were you trying to make with that ridiculous charge, anyway? I assume by your blink a few minutes back on the Girl Scouts thread that you've snapped out of your catatonic condition.
