Morning Mix: Santorum Has A Delegate Problem

It almost seemed a little petty that former Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum has been quibbling with former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney over the at large delegate he lost in the Michigan primary.

But once you hear about his other delegate issues, it suddenly makes more sense.

According to Politico, Santorum’s campaign has had an issue with filing delegate slates in Ohio, meaning that even with a win in the state, it could turn out that he won’t get all of the delegates that should have been allotted to him, regardless.  “According to the Ohio Republican Party tonight, the former Pennsylvania U.S. senator filed incomplete delegate slates in six additional Ohio districts. Altogether, this means Santorum, who until this week had a fair lead in polls in the Republican nominating race, could be ineligible for 18 Ohio district delegates. Ohio has 66 delegates total, 63 at stake next Tuesday. The candidate with the most delegates wins. Santorum therefore goes into the Ohio primary election with a 29 percent deficit.”

The misstep is considered to be a sign of how Santorum never believed he would be a serious contender — especially not at this point in the race. The Cleveland Dealer writes, “The blunder, perhaps a sign of the choppy campaign organization Santorum had late last year when he was still a long shot, could be costly for the candidate who since has established himself as a consensus alternative to Mitt Romney.”

And Romney’s campaign isn’t about to let the screw up go unnoticed. “Santorum’s failures, [Romney cousel Ben] Ginsberg said, ‘should give Republican voters great pause as we get ready to face President Obama.’ Rep. Mike Turner, R-Ohio, piled on, telling reporters, ‘This goes right to the heart of [Santorum's] own inability to run a campaign.’”

Ohio isn’t the only state that Santorum has this problem in, either.  He didn’t file a full slate in Tennessee, but the party there said they’ll comp him if he wins.  “Adam Nickas, a spokesman for the state GOP, says Santorum will still get all the delegates he earns on primary night. If Santorum does not have enough names on his slate for the number of delegates he wins, says Nickas, the state party will fill the slots afterward in consultation with the Santorum campaign.”

Meanwhile, Santorum’s spokesman is still fuming about the lost at-large Michigan delegate, claiming Romney got it out of pity. “They even went so far, they were so embarrassed yesterday they decided to change the rules after the fact and say well, now we’re going to just give an extra delegate to Governor Romney because, well, we felt bad that he didn’t win here.”

Vote Democrat
The Republicans' destructive social policies ENSURE there will be UNESCESSARRY SUFFERING AND DEATH.

The Republicans dehumanize their victims like rapists, and use evil social policy to callously murder the non-rich.

The Republicans know this, and actively CHOOSE to cause UNESCESSARRY SUFFERING AND DEATH.

A vote for the Republican party might as well be rape and murder by proxy.

The Democrats on the other hand have made good on some of their promises despite Republican barriers, and continue to advocate for the middle/poor classes against the Republicans' wishes.

VOTE DEMOCRAT!

Mr. Santorum has mental health issues, that is his main problem. The fact that there is anyone with even half a brain cell that would vote for him is what scares me, because in spite of his extreme lunacy and obvious instability, he does have supporters who think he is "just the berries"! I find that very unsettling.

"Vote, people. Vote right wing extremism back to the fringes, where it belongs." Amen!

If this wasn't supposed to be serious...they are doing a great job. The political cartoonists must be having a ball with all this tripe.
The blown out rudeness and complete unregarded actions for the female half the the human species is at best insane.
Please vote at the elections.

Santorum is a republican wacko. He needs to get out of public life, leave politics behind and just fade away.
