Two dogs got married last Thursday night at an extravaganza to benefit the Humane Society of New York.
Baby Hope, a white Coton de Tulear with black-gray markings, is a rescue dog adopted by television celebrity and animal rights activist Wendy Diamond. She was led down the aisle by a dapper poodle named Chilly Pasternak from Richmond, Virginia, who didn’t seem too excited about the whole affair but, nevertheless, went along with the ceremony.
They were united by online voters, who chose Chilly in a competition set up by Diamond.
Their glittering affair, which included a $6,000 wedding dress (more than Mark Zuckerberg’s wife’s dress), a $5,000 sushi spread, and a $15,000 orchestra, held at the Jumeirah Essex House Hotel in New York City, won the Guinness World Record for the most expensive pet wedding ever.
The luxury goods and services that went into the wedding were all donated. Guests bought tickets for the Manhattan fundraiser.
The two will serve as spokespooches for animal activist Wendy Diamond’s charity, Animal Fair, which she founded in honor of her first rescue dog, Lucky. The Maltese, which had her own Guinness Record for the animal most photographed with celebrities, died of cancer last month.
Event planner Harriette Rose Katz, who has designed parties for Billy Baldwin and Cheyenne Phillips, organized the luxurious affair. Florists who once worked for Bill Clinton created flowering decorations. Triumph the Insult Comic Dog emceed. Buddy Valastro of TLC’s reality show “Cake Boss” made the cake.
Wedding vendors donated their services so that the $250-per-ticket proceeds could all go to the Lucky Diamond Critical Care Ward at the Humane Society of New York.
Here are some thoughts on the whole event:

+ add your ownDogs' weddings are revolting, but at least everything was donated.
mercy!!
Why are so many people upset with this?
All the services were donated! The "cost" was just what those services would have cost if they weren't donated.
People had a fun time, money was raised for the charity, and it was just some people being silly
Come on, where is you sense of humor, people........
Some of you claiming this is a form of animal abuse, really?
This is repulsive. People who try to make animals into small versions of humans are pathetic. As far as I'm concerned, it's another form of abuse.
This was to raise money for a very good cause......hey if it works then I see no harm at all. Sure beats these horror stories of neglect, abuse, torture and murder.
RIP Lennox and all the others who've crossed at the hands of humans
HEY -- if it raises money for sick, abused, homeless animals, then I'm all for it! Good grief, you guys! SURE, maybe the wedding was expensive... but if the PET GIMMICKRY made people feel like parting with their $$ for PET WELFARE, then the expense was worth it. There are already all kinds of commercials, public service announcements, etc., asking people to donate, yet there's still so much need. SO, this was a gimmick that worked! Rich people like to have a funky good time, to do something slightly eyebrow-raising, and this was the ticket! Better than buying a diamond-encrusted bra or something.
Sheesh, ANYTHING is better than letting animals suffer, letting animals be killed because they can't find a home, or letting animals be poached! THOSE are the important things.
It's like letting people in big fancy campers into wilderness areas to camp. SURE, maybe they're not as "sensitive" or "earthy" as vegan backpackers, but hey, if all those people get exercised about helping protect the forests, etc., then that's all that matters -- right?
Weird but as long as it help the animals (which it clearly did) and the critters don't get to consummate the marriage then there is nothing wrong with it.
Of course, the Weather Channel forgot to point out that this extravaganza was really a benefit for the Humane Society. So much for the news that's announced in the morning by that blonde bimbo on the Weather Channel. Apparently she forgot to read the rest of the story when she got all excited about that society affair. Oh well..........
People who do this sort of thing aren't doing it for the dogs: they're just playing at dresisng up live dolls. All dogs want for a wedding is a compatible partner, privacy and maybe a stepladder if they are wildly different sizes.
Thanks. God bless ALL animals! xo xo
