Ontario Child Porn Bust Arrests 60 Offenders

Ontario Child Porn Bust Arrests 60 Offenders

Ontario Police announced today that they have arrested 60 people in a comprehensive sweep of child pornography offenders. Officers from 24 forces acted on 76 warrants yesterday in what is being called the biggest child pornography bust in Canadian history. Those arrested include adults as well as three 16-year-old young offenders from many different backgrounds — and a child care worker.

In a press conference this morning, Det.-Sgt. Frank Goldschmidt says that they have identified 22 victims during their investigation and they expect to identify more. 213 charges have been laid, including Internet child luring, possession, accessing and making child pornography.  There is no indication this was a “ring”; rather, the police were able to track down individual offenders to make arrests.

Child pornography is devastating, widespread and difficult to track down and prosecute. Investigators have to operate undercover and infiltrate what are often global underground organizations. The advantage is that when they do carry out arrests, they can often arrest many offenders at a time — but the ones they cannot catch slip away and find a new hole to hide in. This week’s arrests came through province-wide cooperation between various forces and the Provincial Strategy to Protect Children from Sexual Abuse and Exploitation on the Internet.

Det.-Sgt Goldschmidt also said that child pornography is pervasive in Ontario. More than 8,900 IP addresses from Ontario have been tracked on child pornography sites in the past three months. And, he said, the police will “stop at nothing” to find them all and bring them to justice.

Track them down and lock them up; voyeurs and wankers [jerk-offs] included; they are all perverts and deserve the full extent of the law applied to them1

Aravis O.: Every time someone watches a child pornography movie or picture, that child is raped again. So, please, do not excuse the viewers; they are as guilty as the perps. Also, without the viewers, less demand. Let them all rot in a damp, underground cell!

contd

I fear those who go out there & target our children much more than I fear those who just sit in their house & watch it on their pc. So going after the watchers in my opinion is ineffective. We have to go after the sources.

Don F

I agree with you. Yet me say up front that I am totally against pedophilia. My son is 12yrs old & I would personally rip apart any person that sexually abused him. But in this age of internet technology, we have to realise that one can no longer operate on the premise that if something is downloaded from your modem that you are responsible. That is totally stone-age right now & many innocent people can be criminilized because of these archaic laws. There are many older people who may have a wireless modem that are not encrypted because they do not know how to do it & do not recognize the danger. To be honest, I dont even have mine encrypted because the last time I did so I developed a problem later & I forgot my password. Just a few months ago I was in a part of NYC & I searched for a hotspot to use my ipad & I found one belonging to a well-known company that surprisingly was also not encrypted.

Then we have the issue where a user's antivirus or firewall may be breached & the usery can go on a supposedly innocent site & all types of porn (including child porn) just flood their computer.

It is alright for one to point the finger but dont forget that it can happen to anyone of us.

On another note, I think that the enemy should not really be the persons who view porn on their pc. It should be those who MAKE the child porn. If a person is a pedophile, then he is a pedophile. I fear those who go out there & target our childre
